Background
Gu Yue’s human identity conceals the Silver Dragon King, sovereign of the soul beasts. Although Hu Fangyuan attributes her wealth and connections to an extraordinary family, her actual backing is the entire Soul Beast Clan 34 56 57.
She regards human technological advancement as a threat to soul beast survival. Battle armor, mechas, and mass-produced soul weapons have eroded the beasts’ advantages, leading her to consider learning humanity’s superior techniques as a means of resisting them. Hu Fangyuan’s unusual medicines make him a valuable source of such knowledge, though she rejects simply taking what she wants by force 56.
Appearance
- Hair and eyes: Long black hair and black eyes; her loose hair reaches her waist 22 55.
- Academy clothing: Wears a school uniform or a simple training outfit, tying her hair into a ponytail for physical training 31 54.
- Casual clothing: Wears moon-white clothes with narrow cuffs and a thin silver belt during her shopping trip with Hu Fangyuan 55.
- Accessory: Later wears a silver crescent-moon hairpin set with small blue crystals, a gift from Hu Fangyuan 57.
Personality
Gu Yue is reserved, cool, and usually uninterested in social factions. When her classmates quarrel before special training, she ignores the dispute and asks Wu Changkong directly what they will be learning. Her priority is improving her strength rather than joining their arguments 22 23.
Despite her exceptional affinity for elements, she recognizes the limitations of her own technique. Seeking Hu Fangyuan’s guidance is unusual for her, but she openly admits that her elemental applications remain superficial. She listens closely to his explanations and asks questions rather than relying solely on her natural talent 31 32.
She values personal boundaries. Hu Fangyuan’s probing into her background makes her wary, and she challenges his claim that exposing someone’s secrets is a way to make friends. Conversely, she refrains from questioning the suspicious materials and physical changes she later notices in his courtyard 33 54.
Her growing familiarity with Hu Fangyuan reveals a teasing, occasionally shy side. She laughs at his exaggerated flattery, becomes annoyed when he insists on treating favors as transactions, and blushes slightly when accepting his hairpin. Nevertheless, she remains firm about payment and delivery terms 46 55 56 57.
Abilities & Skills
Elemental Envoy
Her Martial Soul grants an innate affinity with six elements: wind, fire, earth, water, light, and space 10 33.
- Offense: Uses Wind Blades, fire attacks, Ice Spikes, and Earth Spikes to pressure opponents at range 10 11 54.
- Defense: Forms an Ochre Barrier while separately directing Wind Blades to intercept attacks from another direction 11.
- Mobility: Uses wind to buoy her body and evade attacks 42.
- Passive support: Surrounding elements naturally assist her during physical training; wind lightens her movement, light replenishes her energy, and ice helps keep her calm 31.
First Soul Skill: Elemental Tide
Elemental Tide draws the surrounding elements toward her, creating a vortex of six intertwined elemental auras 10.
- Activated through her yellow first Soul Ring during the enrollment assessment 10.
- Accompanies the rapid elemental assault with which she drives back Xie Xie 10.
Second Soul Skill: Elemental Control
By rank twenty-three, Gu Yue can readily produce combinations of different elements, giving her ranged attacks broad coverage and considerable variation 36.
- Wind and fire: Uses wind to feed flames 36.
- Water and earth: Combines them into mud 36.
- Light and wind: Produces dazzling effects 36.
- Layered suppression: Sweeps ice fragments forward with wind while attacking with Earth Spikes, preventing Class Two’s strongest fighter from closing the distance 54.
Spiritual Power
Her measured Spiritual Power of 119 places her in the Spirit Connection Realm 29.
- Wu Changkong suspects that her Martial Soul communicates with elements through powerful Spiritual Power; this remains his assessment rather than a confirmed classification 29.
- Moonlight Dew quickly clears her mental fatigue and makes nearby elemental fluctuations easier to perceive 34.
Combat Awareness and Technical Development
Gu Yue combines precise targeting with a willingness to revise her understanding of elemental combat 11 31.
- Movement prediction: Places Ice Spikes along Xie Xie’s likely routes, cutting off his approaches despite his speed 11.
- Coordinated attacks: Supports Hu Fangyuan against Guang Long with Ice Spikes and a Wind Blade that cuts Guang Long’s knee 42.
- Technical study: Learns about pressure, high-speed water, vortex flow, and concentrated or formless flames from Hu Fangyuan. These lessons are demonstrated to her; the passages do not establish that she has mastered every technique herself 32 33.
- Early limitation: Initially relies on familiar forms such as fireballs, Wind Blades, and ice thorns, despite excellent elemental affinity 31.
Equipment & Resources
- Silver crescent-moon hairpin: A tier-one civilian Soul Tool bought by Hu Fangyuan for slightly over 200,000 Federation Coins. It has a mild mind-calming effect, helps ward off inner demons during cultivation, repels dust, and keeps her hair tidy 57.
- Black card: A small card shimmering with golden light. Showing it causes the East Sea Trading Company’s guards to admit her to the Soul Master floor without requiring a badge 57.
- Elemental crystals: Purchases several during her shopping trip 57.
- Thousand-Year Whale Rubber access: Arranges for this rare material to be delivered to Hu Fangyuan through Di Tian 57 68.
Medicine Agreements
| Medicine | Terms | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Moonlight Dew | Three bottles each month for one million Federation Coins 34 | Restores Spiritual Power and nourishes the soul; her regular supply aids her cultivation before the tournament 34 36. |
| Strength Path Secret Medicine | Five doses each month at 1.2 million Federation Coins per dose, delivered alongside the Moonlight Dew 56 | Body-strengthening medicine sought as part of her expanded cooperation with Hu Fangyuan 56 57. |
Relationships
- Hu Fangyuan — Teammate, elemental tutor, medicine supplier, and developing friend. Their cooperation begins with instruction and paid medicine, then expands to rare-material procurement. She recognizes his self-interest but also considers him dependable in a crisis 31 34 46 56 60.
- Wu Changkong — Teacher and combat instructor. He values her talent, encourages her to explore elemental combinations, and later selects her for Class Zero 22 29 31 72.
- Tang Wulin — Classmate and teammate. She initially offers to withdraw rather than displace him from the tournament team, later helps search for him, and is protected by him during the Class One match 22 60 63.
- Xie Xie — Classmate and frequent verbal opponent. He resents being overshadowed by her, while she criticizes his lack of effort. They nevertheless cooperate in matches and in searching for Tang Wulin 36 54 60.
- Di Tian — Acts on her behalf by delivering Thousand-Year Whale Rubber to Hu Fangyuan and carrying Moonlight Dew back to her. He warns Hu Fangyuan against improper thoughts or interference in her affairs 68.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Enrollment and Tournament Training
Gu Yue arrives at Eastsea Academy after registration has closed and requests admission from Wu Changkong. He pairs her with Hu Fangyuan against Tang Wulin and Xie Xie for a combat assessment. Their coordinated elemental pressure wins the match, and both applicants pass 10 11.
Her arrival prompts Wu Changkong to reconsider the tournament lineup. Unwilling to take another student’s place, she initially declines to compete, but Tang Wulin accepts the need to earn his position. Training subsequently divides the four students into recurring pairs: Gu Yue with Hu Fangyuan, and Tang Wulin with Xie Xie 22 36.
Cooperation with Hu Fangyuan
After witnessing Hu Fangyuan’s flexible water-and-fire techniques, Gu Yue seeks private instruction at his rented courtyard. Their discussion develops into a guarded conversation about her background and his proposal for friendship. A sample of Moonlight Dew changes her assessment of him and establishes their first medicine agreement 31 32 33 34.
Their arrangement later expands during a visit to the East Sea Trading Company. She offers access to Thousand-Year Whale Rubber, negotiates a monthly supply of body-strengthening medicine, and accepts a hairpin as his thank-you gift. Di Tian subsequently completes the promised delivery 55 56 57 68.
Class Promotion Tournament
While Hu Fangyuan is absent, Gu Yue, Tang Wulin, and Xie Xie defeat Class Two in under two minutes. Her combined wind, ice, and earth assault prevents the opposing frontline fighter from advancing 54.
Against Class One, Gu Yue battles Zhang Yangzi while Tang Wulin holds off Wang Jinxi. Tang Wulin’s golden scales distract her long enough for Zhang Yangzi to attack from behind, but Hu Fangyuan intercepts him with a flame-wreathed punch 63.
Class Zero
Following Class Five’s tournament success, the academy renames it First Grade Class One and selects Gu Yue for the new elite Class Zero under Wu Changkong 72.
She signs the academy’s junior-and-senior-division commitment agreement after a quiet exchange with Hu Fangyuan. Privately, she understands his implication that such a contract would not restrain a genuine talent if a stronger institution offered better resources 74.
Notable Quotes
“No. When it comes to elemental affinity, I do have an innate advantage. But my use of the elements is still only skin-deep.” 31
“I don't think what you just did is something a friend should do. You stripped my background bare right off the bat. Is that how you go about making friends?” 33
