This sudden turn of events sent chills down the spines of the other surviving soldiers. They simply could not understand why comrades who had faced life and death alongside them would suddenly attack them now. It made no sense at all, and Whitehall had not given them any specific warning beforehand. After all, in his eyes, these soldiers were all expendable.
"Fuck!! Bruce, what are you doing?"
The Black Commander swore furiously at one of the soldiers Xia Zuo had controlled. Unfortunately, the soldier showed no reaction whatsoever to his curses and continued hunting down the soldiers who had charged into the Orphanage.
"Aren't we on the same side? You're killing the wrong people!"
"Ah, brother, why are you killing me?"
"What the hell is going on?!"
"I've been shot! Help!"
The Orphanage's Courtyard instantly descended into chaos. All the soldiers were thrown into confusion, and the Black Commander's expression darkened, his already dark complexion growing even darker.
Just then, the communicator in the Black Commander's hand rang, and Whitehall's furious voice immediately came through.
"Are you an idiot? Those soldiers are being controlled! Take out the controlled soldiers and keep attacking!"
Inside a distant Building, Whitehall cursed into his communicator in exasperation. He had been watching the situation at the Orphanage the entire time.
Having already experienced John Garrett wreaking havoc at Hydra Base, Whitehall immediately caught on and understood what was happening. Xia Zuo was controlling them!
But the more he understood, the graver Whitehall's expression became. The soldiers had not even seen Xia Zuo, yet they had already all fallen victim to his power and become puppets in his hands!
This bizarre method sent a chill through Whitehall's heart and even made his skin crawl!
For that very reason, Whitehall grew even more wary of Xia Zuo, but also greedier. If he could capture Xia Zuo and obtain this ability of his, wouldn't he be able to rule the world?
At that thought, Whitehall urged the Black Commander to move even faster. Having received Whitehall's orders, the Black Commander ordered the surviving, clearheaded soldiers to attack those Xia Zuo controlled.
For a time, the clearheaded Hydra soldiers launched a counterattack!
The Hydra soldiers Xia Zuo controlled had originally accounted for roughly a quarter of the force. Their surprise attack had struck the soldiers attacking from both sides, and only those attacking through the back entrance had escaped unscathed!
In other words, the two forces now fighting were the soldiers Xia Zuo controlled, who had attacked through the main entrance, and the squad that had attacked through the back entrance. Both sides immediately became locked in a back-and-forth battle, though a few soldiers still charged into the Orphanage building, intending to capture Xia Zuo.
"Hey, I'm over here!"
A soldier was searching the Orphanage's main hall when Xia Zuo's childish voice suddenly rang out. The soldier's expression changed dramatically. He instantly turned and pulled the trigger!
Xia Zuo's ability had already frightened him out of his wits. He dared not let his guard down for even a moment and only wanted to shoot Xia Zuo down immediately, even though the Black Commander had ordered them to capture him alive.
Bang!
The bullet fired, but the sound that followed was glass shattering. The soldier looked over curiously and immediately saw a broken mirror.
It turned out that he had only hit a mirror. But the next moment, a pair of glowing red eyes appeared in the shattered mirror, the inverted-V Geass symbols blazing with brilliant light!
Geass's first ability: Absolute Command activated!
Contract established!
"Answer my questions. Once the questioning is over, go outside and kill the invading soldiers until you die." Xia Zuo slowly approached the soldier, his cold voice accompanying him.
Until you die!
This was an order Xia Zuo gave every time he activated his Geass ability. Whether during Garrett's earlier attack or while commanding these soldiers now, Xia Zuo always made sure to give this order.
He had no choice. He was still too weak to ensure his own safety, so he had to make certain that these people he had controlled could never hurt him again.
Xia Zuo had a wish. He hoped that one day, he could develop the Ultimate Eye's other abilities and become strong enough to stop being so passive. He hoped that one day, he could stand fearlessly before his enemies without having to say, "until you die."
But a moment later, Xia Zuo brought his thoughts back to reality. There were still things he needed to find out.
"Tell me who you are. Which organization do you belong to?"
Only after finding a secluded place to hide did Xia Zuo begin questioning the controlled soldier.
"I am a Hydra soldier serving under Commander Suo Luo, identification number JTS142!" the soldier answered truthfully.
"Hydra. So it really is Hydra!"
Xia Zuo narrowed his eyes slightly, not surprised in the least. This made more sense. After all, in Xia Zuo's memories, although S.H.I.E.L.D. also killed people, they would at least waste a few words before acting to show their magnanimity. Only Hydra would be so ruthless as to start slaughtering people without a word.
"Who is this Commander Suo Luo you mentioned?" Xia Zuo asked.
"The black man giving orders beside the first vehicle outside the Orphanage is Commander Suo Luo," the soldier answered truthfully.
Xia Zuo stole a concealed glance through the window and immediately spotted the black man named Suo Luo. His eyes shifted slightly as a plan formed in his mind.
"Go. The questioning is over," Xia Zuo told the soldier without turning his head.
"Yes. Executing mission: kill the invading soldiers until I die!"
The soldier spoke to himself, then picked up his pistol and rushed outside, joining the battle in the Courtyard!
Only at the moment of his death would Xia Zuo's command cease to work, but by then, he would already be dead.
Xia Zuo did not even look at any of this. Instead, he silently watched the Black Commander, Suo Luo, behind the Orphanage through the window.
Xia Zuo had decided. This would be his next hunting target!
