In an instant, the Black Commander Suo Luo, who had been about to flee, stopped and stared blankly at Xia Zuo, because he, too, was now under Xia Zuo's control.
"First question. Tell me about your attack on the Orphanage this time. Tell me everything you know."
Xia Zuo spoke slowly, the Geass symbol still shining in his eyes. There was indeed still much he did not know about this attack, and he needed to get to the bottom of it.
"Two hours ago, Lord Whitehall suddenly ordered me to gather all the soldiers and attack this Orphanage..." The Black Commander Suo Luo quickly told him everything he knew, allowing Xia Zuo to understand what had led to this.
"So S.H.I.E.L.D. found those robbers' bodies. No wonder all this happened. But S.H.I.E.L.D. really is useless. The moment S.H.I.E.L.D. makes a move, Hydra already has complete control of it. You might as well say S.H.I.E.L.D. belongs to Hydra. Looks like I was right not to choose S.H.I.E.L.D." Xia Zuo curled his lip and muttered to himself.
Xia Zuo was not at all surprised that S.H.I.E.L.D. had uncovered the truth. After all, S.H.I.E.L.D. did have that capability. Given some time, they could discover the truth. But Xia Zuo was thoroughly disgusted. What disgusted him was that S.H.I.E.L.D. could not even keep itself under control and had allowed Hydra to infiltrate it to this extent. This also reinforced Xia Zuo's earlier thinking.
Not choosing S.H.I.E.L.D. had been the right decision. If he really had chosen S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra would probably have brainwashed him shortly after he joined.
"All right, next question. Where is Whitehall?" Xia Zuo looked straight at the Black Commander Suo Luo, a cold gleam flashing through his eyes. This was what he most wanted to know.
Xia Zuo knew that Whitehall was the mastermind behind all this. After all, when he had interrogated Garrett last time, he had learned that this matter was connected to Whitehall. But despite observing for quite some time just now, he had found no trace of Whitehall.
In fact, when he had taken control of these soldiers earlier, Xia Zuo had already questioned them. When they had set out for the Orphanage, Whitehall had left with them, yet he was now nowhere to be seen.
He was the most troublesome person of all. Xia Zuo needed to figure out Whitehall's whereabouts.
Simply killing these soldiers now would be meaningless, because as long as Whitehall remained alive, he would certainly keep targeting him.
That endless harassment might even bring disaster upon the Orphanage, and Xia Zuo would not allow that. So this time, he had to kill Whitehall once and for all and teach him a painful lesson.
Some said to strike a snake at its vital spot, but in Xia Zuo's view, only cutting its head clean off could eliminate future trouble. He understood the need to pull a weed out by its roots!
"Lord Whitehall is in that building a hundred meters away, at three o'clock. He's observing the battlefield from there. Just now, he ordered me to kill the soldiers you had taken control of," Officer Suo Luo answered slowly, telling him everything he knew.
"He actually came here. Excellent."
The corners of Xia Zuo's mouth lifted slightly, and he was a little surprised. He had not expected Whitehall to be so bold as to come here. Since that was the case, he would not let Whitehall leave so easily.
Xia Zuo already had some ideas. He needed to lay a proper trap for this old fox and make him walk into it.
While Xia Zuo was considering this problem, sirens suddenly sounded. Several more transport vehicles arrived, and numerous soldiers immediately rushed out of them and surrounded the Orphanage. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s people had finally arrived.
"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s people? In that case, let's go out and take a look."
Xia Zuo watched the situation outside the window, his expression calm. Before, he would have avoided S.H.I.E.L.D. as much as possible. After all, he did not want to reveal his existence. But now that he had already been exposed right under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s nose, hiding would do no good. He might as well face them head-on.
"Sir, we've surrounded the Orphanage!"
Outside the Orphanage, a soldier reported to Nick Fury.
"Move in and take down Hydra's people. Avoid hurting the children inside as much as possible. I hope we aren't too late."
Nick Fury murmured, his brow tightly furrowed, because he had already spotted several transport vehicles outside the Orphanage. Clearly, Hydra's people had already arrived. He did not know what the situation inside was now.
"Yes, sir!"
Upon receiving the order, all the S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers immediately charged into the Orphanage. But when they reached its courtyard, every soldier froze. They involuntarily stopped in their tracks, utterly stunned, because they saw an Orphanage drenched in blood.
Inside the Orphanage's courtyard, endless blood had stained the entire yard crimson, without a single spot spared. The bodies of numerous Hydra soldiers lay scattered haphazardly across the ground, without the slightest sign of life. It was a gruesome sight, like a true, bloody battlefield.
"This... how could this have happened?"
Nick Fury and Natasha were also drawn over by the situation here, and when they saw the bloodshed covering the ground, they, too, could not help being stunned!
He had not seen a scene like this since the last world war. This was nothing short of a real battlefield!
"These are Hydra soldiers. Something terrible must have happened here!"
Nick Fury spoke gravely. It was not hard for him to imagine what had happened here: two powerful armies had fought a savage battle, one that would not end until one side was dead. Yet all they could see were Hydra soldiers.
Because of this sudden turn of events, all the S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers stood somewhat dazed, each looking toward Nick Fury, hoping for the director's orders. Were they to keep charging in, or...
Just then, footsteps came from inside the Orphanage building. All the S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers immediately brought out their shields and formed a defensive line, their expressions grave as they watched the building.
As the footsteps drew closer, an armed unit of nearly twenty people slowly emerged. Yet they did not launch any attack. Instead, they lined up neatly in two rows at the building's entrance, as though waiting for someone.
Just then, a small figure slowly walked out, his mismatched eyes-purple on the left and gold on the right-looking unusually deep.
