Xue Fuyao seemed not to notice the Two-Headed Snake's unusual reaction. She quickly put away the Black Box and said, "I've given you what I came to give you, so I'll be leaving. Oh, and you should hurry and leave this place too. The Ten Thousand Buddha Temple has discovered your whereabouts. They're preparing to capture you for research."
The Two-Headed Snake quickly snapped out of his daze at her voice. Watching Xue Fuyao turn to leave, Purple Pupil suddenly said, "Wait."
Xue Fuyao stopped at his words, the corners of her lips curling slightly. But the instant she turned around, her expression returned to normal, a hint of puzzlement in her eyes. "Is there something else?"
"Well, um..."
The Two-Headed Snake lowered his heads, his body twisting incessantly. He looked ready to twist himself into a braided dough twist, yet still failed to get his point across.
Seeing his older brother's bashful manner, Golden Pupil wriggled over to Xue Fuyao. He took a deep breath and said, with the air of someone smashing his cooking pots and sinking his boats, "We want to go with you. Would you be willing to take us in?"
"Give me a reason," Xue Fuyao said.
Although she did indeed intend to entice this Two-Headed Snake, she did not want to agree so readily.
The two snake heads thought they had a chance and immediately said, "Our scales are beautiful, and they feel nice and cool in winter. My brother and I are very clever, too. We know lots of things. Although we don't have venomous fangs, we're also very good at fighting..."
They took turns rattling off a whole string of their strengths, then looked at her with sparkling eyes. They looked less like snakes than two puppies begging an owner to adopt
