The fourth simulation, target: Susan the Invisible Woman
"Cough..."
When Lynn's consciousness slammed into the body, the intense tearing sensation in his chest made him gag a mouthful of bloody saliva.
The strong smell of gunpowder mixed with the pungent odor of sulfur scraped into his lungs through his nasal cavity. He lay crouching behind a section of broken load-bearing wall, rough concrete fragments pressing hard on his left leg, causing a sharp pain in his periosteum.
[Ding! The fourth simulation of Till Death Do Us Part has begun.]
[Current timeline: Ruins of Doom Castle, Latveria.]
[Current Identity: S.H.I.E.L.D.. Field Agent, ID 7734]
[Target locked: The Invisible Woman, Susan Stone]
Lynn gritted his teeth and pushed away the rubble that was pressing on his legs.
It lacked Chaos Magic Affinity, the terrifying self-healing power of the Super-Soldier Serum, and Spider-Sense. This body was as fragile as a piece of waterlogged paper, even its breathing was a wheezing sound like a broken bellows.
He quickly checked his tactical vest: a Glock 17 pistol, two spare magazines, and a Tactical Dagger.
A completely mortal user interface.
"To rescue the Invisible Woman in this divine trap, and obtain the Space Stitching Technique to clean up that mess in reality..." Lynn wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his eyes as cold as an icy Blade, "This level of difficulty... System, you really think highly of me."
In the distance, a thunderous explosion sent up a scorching shockwave several meters high.
Lynn peeked out from the crack in the wall.
In the center of the ruined plaza, a hundred meters away, Doctor Doom, dressed in his signature silver-gray heavy armor, his dark green cloak fluttering in the magical wind, stood like an invincible demon god, one hand gripping Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards by the neck, lifting him high into the air.
Reed's incredibly resilient body was now like a twisted rope, his limbs tangled together in an extremely contorted position, and he was groaning in pain.
"Reed!"
The Invisible Woman, Susan, screamed. She pushed her hands forward with all her might, creating a semi-transparent, eerie blue Force Field in an attempt to block the violent green energy emanating from around Doom.
Doom coldly turned his head away, his eyes beneath the metal mask flashing a blinding green light.
"Miss Storm, your fiancé clearly didn't factor in your safety when calculating the odds." Doom's voice, metallic and resonant, was utterly sarcastic.
Lynn hid in the shadows, coldly analyzing the battlefield situation.
He was all too aware of the internal conflicts within the Fantastic Four. Reed Richards was a pure, rational monster; in his eyes, everything was about data, probability, and optimal solutions. Just now, in his tactical maneuvering, Reed abandoned providing cover for Susan's flank in order to gain a mere 0.5 seconds to attack Doom's shield.
This has left Susan trapped in Doom's magical quagmire, caught in a dilemma, and completely reduced to a human shield.
"An extremely rational fiancé, and a high-and-mighty dictator." Lynn weighed the Glock in his hand, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "What a perfect point of leverage for a crowbar."
To completely win over a woman like Susan, who is aloof, mature, and possesses a strong maternal glow, and even awaken her Yandere tendencies, a simple hero-saves-the-damsel-in-distress approach is simply not enough.
The most brutal and unreasonable "favoritism" must be used to ruthlessly tear apart the rational weariness she felt towards Reed deep within her heart.
In the center of the battlefield, the situation took a sharp turn for the worse.
"Get out of my way!" The Thing roared as it rammed into Doom, its massive rocky body shattering the paving stones beneath its feet.
Doom didn't even turn his head; he simply pressed down with his left hand in the opposite direction. A violent gravity spell instantly descended.
"Boom!"
The Thing was forced to his knees, the granite beneath his knees cracking inch by inch. Several thick steel bars, manipulated by magic, rose from the ground like giant pythons, pinning him firmly to the crumbling wall.
Johnny the Human Torch, who had been hovering in mid-air, transformed into a fireball and swooped down, only to be struck by Doom's Absolute Zero Ray, which he casually swung. The flames were extinguished instantly, and Johnny plummeted into the ruins like a kite with a broken string, creating a cloud of blood mist, his fate unknown.
In less than two minutes, the Fantastic Four's formation completely collapsed.
"Now, it's your turn."
Doom tossed the heavily injured Reed into the ruins like a rag doll, then turned and hovered in mid-air, looking down at Susan.
He clasped his hands together, and an extremely terrifying green magical energy was being compressed wildly in his palms. The surrounding air emitted a sharp sonic boom due to the high temperature and the surge of magic.
Susan knelt on one knee, her long golden hair sticking to her cheeks with sweat and dirt. She bit her lip until it bled, her hands desperately supporting the Invisible Force Field that was now covered with spiderweb-like cracks.
She glanced at Reed, who lay unconscious in a pool of blood, a flicker of undisguised despair and exhaustion crossing her eyes.
It's always the same.
Reed was always pursuing the perfect tactic, while she was always the expendable fodder forced to struggle in Extremis, buying him time. Reason told her that Reed was right, but the emotional rift had already been stretched to its limit countless times on the brink of life and death.
"Click--"
The cracks in the Force Field widened again, emitting a chilling cracking sound.
The green ray in Doom's palm had expanded to its maximum, carrying an overwhelming pressure that Oblivion everything, and locked onto Susan's brow.
"Disappear."
At this critical moment...
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Three extremely discordant, even somewhat comical, gunshots suddenly shattered the oppressive silence of the battlefield.
Three 9mm Parabellum pistol bullets struck Doom's metal mask precisely at the back of his head. The Negasonic Teenage Warhead didn't even leave a white mark before being deflected by the magical shield, falling to the ground with a crisp clinking sound.
Doom paused slightly, the magical energy in his palm freezing in mid-air.
Susan was also stunned, and turned her head with difficulty.
Amidst the swirling ashes, a man dressed in a black S.H.I.E.L.D.. special operations suit emerged from the shadows of the ruins, stepping over scorching glass shards.
He held a smoking Glock in his hand, there was no trace of superpower fluctuations on his body, blood flowed down his forehead and into his eyes, and even his breathing seemed a little unsteady.
An ordinary person.
A low-level agent who isn't even worthy of carrying Doctor Doom's shoes.
Under the astonished gazes of Doom and Susan, Lynn casually tossed aside his empty pistol and with a clang drew Tactical Dagger from his outside thigh.
He didn't look at the arrogant demon god in the sky, but instead focused his gaze on Susan was disheveled and lying behind the Force Field.
"Miss Storm." Lynn's voice wasn't loud, but it was exceptionally clear in the deathly silence of the ruins, "S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Lynn is hereby assigned to take over your flank Defense Line."
