Carol charged down.
Chen Mo and Peter looked up at the same time.
The pressure relief ring still hung between them, its core connector already pulled out by Vision. Webbing held both sides of the ring taut. Whoever let go first would send dozens of tons of metal crashing straight into Avengers Tower.
There was no running.
No blocking it, either.
The four mechanical spider legs on Chen Mo's back folded forward.
"Peter."
"Hold for three seconds. OK, we can do this. We can definitely do this!"
Peter's four spider legs locked into place as well.
Two spiders, eight long metal legs, crossed above their heads as a nanotech shield unfolded between them. The golden light around Carol's fist was already pressing against its outer layer.
An orange slit suddenly cut between them.
The Time Door opened at a crooked angle.
Its upper half was in front of Carol, while its lower half was still caught inside the pressure relief ring.
Deadpool lunged out of the door.
He spread his arms and caught Carol squarely in an embrace.
"My dear Spider-Man, step one of the standard damsel-rescue procedure: make sure the damsel gets a clear look at the hero's handsome fa-"
Carol smashed through three floors with him.
His voice vanished.
The golden impact veered away from the pressure relief ring, leaving a hole clean through the middle of Avengers Tower.
Chen Mo stared at the hole.
"Was he about to say 'face'?"
"Probably."
Peter looked down to check the shield.
Its outermost layer had already shattered.
"But he's wearing a mask."
"You can remind him when he crawls back."
The Time Door was still there.
A foot in a white knee-high boot stepped onto its frame.
The White Queen emerged from the orange light, not a speck of dust
