"Whoosh!"

Half a rolling shutter flew halfway down the street.

Crash!

It smashed onto an innocent passerby's car. Who knew whether the car loan had been paid off, or whether insurance would cover it?

Knowing full well that no insurance would compensate an undocumented temporary worker like him, the clerk covered his head and timidly shuffled toward the door, one tiny step at a time.

Unfortunately, as an undocumented immigrant, the clerk lacked the innate talents of Gotham natives who had grown up in Gotham. Someone still grabbed his pant leg and hauled him back.

Desperately attached to this world, the clerk clung to the doorframe, his nails leaving bloody streaks across it.

"Help-"

A strand of webbing stuck to the clerk's chest, answering his cry for help.

Spider-Man launched into a backflip from a streetlamp and landed on the arm Killer Croc was using to hold the clerk. Bracing himself against that arm, he spun and kicked Killer Croc in the face. In pain, Killer Croc let go.

Spider-Man successfully rescued the hostage.

"Even though I've said this plenty of times before, could you please not be an idiot? Run back! Get outside, and don't run in a straight line! Don't Gotham middle schools teach emergency escape classes? Could you stop acting like some clueless out-of-towner? Don't run in a straight line, I said!"

Chen Mo stood there, watching the clerk's escape route, his head buzzing with frustration. In the end, he couldn't bear to leave him to it and fired a strand of webbing to stop a piece of falling masonry from landing on the unlucky man's head.

Killer Croc shook his head and climbed back up from the ground.

"Spider-Man!"

He picked up a nearby shelf and hurled it at the spider.

"I hate bugs!"
