Background / History
Childhood and Silver Terrace Temple
Yin Tingxue was born at Silver Terrace Temple, which Prince Xiang had built within his residence for her mother. Her mother died of illness three years before the household’s confiscation, leaving Tingxue with the repeated instruction to “be a good person.” Tingxue continued visiting the temple to pray for her, read Buddhist sutras, and sit quietly before the bodhisattva 1 2 28.
After Prince Xiang appointed a new principal consort, Silver Terrace Temple fell into neglect. Servants generally cleaned it only when Tingxue wished to visit. Her attachment to the temple nevertheless endured: her mother had affectionately called her “Silver Terrace Temple’s daughter” 28 37.
Selection as Holy Maiden
The Bright-Dark Divine Sect’s former leader designated Tingxue its Pure Saintess in his final instructions. The arrangement remained secret, and she was expected to join the sect after marriage. Prince Xiang outwardly maintained Buddhist worship while secretly converting to the sect two years before his downfall 2.
Tingxue disliked the Demonic Cult but expected it to rescue her after her family’s conviction. Under Great Yu law, children of confiscated households faced the destruction of their Longevity Bridges, cutting off their access to Qi Refining and immortal cultivation 2.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Chen Yi’s Previous Save
In the course of events remembered by Chen Yi, he broke Tingxue’s Longevity Bridge during the confiscation of her household. The Bright-Dark Divine Sect subsequently rescued her, taking her away while leaving the other women behind 1.
She later became a formidable swordswoman. At a righteous sects’ sword symposium, she defeated more than a dozen experts in succession by recognizing and countering their cultivation methods. She eventually stormed the Western Depot alone, slaughtered practically everyone there, and pursued Chen Yi into the outskirts of the capital. Seeking revenge for her ruined Longevity Bridge and household, she severed his meridians before killing him 1 3.
Confiscation and Forced Concubinage
After returning to the beginning of his save, Chen Yi encountered Tingxue before her Longevity Bridge was destroyed. She recognized him from a nightmare in which he had crippled her cultivation prospects. Rather than immediately kill her to prevent his own future death, he took her to Silver Terrace Temple and assessed her character 1 2.
Believing she was about to die, Tingxue burned more than three thousand taels in banknotes—money that could have supported her or purchased her freedom—and prayed to reunite with her mother. Chen Yi spared her, but demanded that she become his concubine. He used her mother’s dying wish and the danger posed by her secret identity to pressure her into accepting 2.
Chen Yi then forced her to sign an eight-year maidservant contract and address him as “Master.” He took her from the residence before the sect could claim her and killed the agents who attempted to seize her 3 4.
Death Contract and Failed Escape
Chen Yi replaced the limited contract with a lifelong Death Contract. Tingxue initially refused, preferring the Laundry Bureau, but yielded when he threatened to burn Silver Terrace Temple. She signed under the name Yin Jiaoyu 12.
After Chen Yi locked her inside, Min Ning discovered her writing in blood on a sash and took her away. Tingxue welcomed the chance to escape, but fighting between the Demonic Cult and Eastern Depot trapped them in the streets. A deflected throwing needle wounded her shoulder, and Eastern Depot agents recognized her as the Holy Maiden under orders to kill her on sight 12 13 14.
Chen Yi intervened, stopped her bleeding, and carried her away while fighting her pursuers. He killed twenty-one men that rainy night, then ordered Min Ning to return Tingxue to his house. He later disguised a corpse as the Holy Maiden, allowing the public to believe Tingxue had died 14 15 17.
Recovery and Continued Dependence
During her recovery, Tingxue asked for books to relieve her boredom. Chen Yi eventually brought fiction and her favorite foods, and promised not to bully her while she recuperated. She also intervened on Min Ming’s behalf during his confrontation with her over poisoning him 22 24 27.
Her outward resistance diminished, but her wish for freedom remained. She mistakenly believed Chen Yi was not attracted to women and hoped that pleasing him might persuade him to return her indenture. Her request to visit Thousand Lamps Temple was also a test of whether he might eventually let her return to Silver Terrace Temple 37 38.
Anchor to Chen Yi’s Worldly Attachments
When Yin Weiying taught Chen Yi to sever worldly ties in pursuit of immortality, his memories of Tingxue nearly faded with his other attachments. Her declaration, “I’m your concubine now!”, brought her back to mind. Remembering her dependence on him, he concluded that he could not abandon her 30.
Appearance
- Build and features: Petite, with a small face, almond-shaped eyes, an exquisitely shaped nose, and fair, delicate skin 2 8.
- Hair: Black 8.
- Early clothing: Wears green during the Silver Terrace Temple confrontation; Chen Yi later veils her face when taking her from the residence 2 3.
- Characteristic posture: Frequently curls up against the bedroom wall, compared to a little fox, attempting to keep her distance from Chen Yi 16 17.
Personality
Tingxue is proud, stubborn, and sensitive to humiliation. Even when frightened, she challenges Chen Yi’s conduct and clings to her dignity as Prince Xiang’s daughter. Her defiance often gives way under threats, particularly those involving her mother’s temple; compliance does not erase her resentment 2 3 4 12.
Her mother’s influence remains central to her conscience. She repeatedly prays for her mother’s well-being after death and risks drawing Chen Yi’s displeasure to protect Min Ming, whom she has never met. This compassion contrasts with the vengeful Holy Maiden of Chen Yi’s previous save 1 2 24.
She is perceptive but inexperienced outside her sheltered upbringing. She quickly recognizes Chen Yi’s intention to make her a concubine and later devises small tests of his willingness to accommodate her. Nevertheless, she repeatedly misinterprets his interest in Min Ning as proof that he has no attraction to women, using that belief to reassure herself 2 8 37 38.
Abilities & Skills
Photographic Memory
Tingxue can memorize cultivation texts word for word 3.
- Recites the Fragment of the Star-Absorbing Great Method from memory, enabling Chen Yi to learn it.
- In the original game’s later events, her knowledge of different schools’ methods allows her to counter stronger opponents.
- The fragment was given to her for future practice; possessing it does not establish that she had mastered it when Chen Yi took her away 3.
Accurate Dreams
Tingxue experiences dreams containing details connected to events known to Chen Yi 2 27.
- Dreams of Chen Yi breaking her Longevity Bridge before meeting him in the altered course of events.
- Later dreams of Chen Yi arguing with a one-armed woman who wants to take her away; he identifies the woman as Zhou Yitang.
- Claims that her dreams are always accurate, though their mechanism is not explained 2 27.
Swordsmanship — Previous Save
Her developed combat abilities belong to the course of events remembered by Chen Yi, rather than her sheltered condition at the story’s restart 1 3.
- Defeats more than a dozen experts consecutively at a sword symposium.
- Single-handedly devastates the Western Depot.
- Uses precise sword strikes to sever Chen Yi’s remaining meridians without immediately killing him 1 3.
Perception and Education
- Keen senses: Notices that Chen Yi has killed again despite his having bathed several times before returning home 27.
- Classical learning: Has read the Four Books and Five Classics, with Buddhist sutras forming much of her additional reading 28.
- Limited domestic experience: Initially has no experience serving others, reflecting her upbringing in the prince’s residence 8.
Equipment / Items
- Banknotes worth over three thousand taels: Her share of the household’s divided money; burned as an offering at Silver Terrace Temple 2.
- Eight-year maidservant contract: The first contract Chen Yi forces her to mark 3.
- Death Contract: A lifelong contract signed under the name Yin Jiaoyu after Chen Yi threatens Silver Terrace Temple 12.
- Blood-marked sash: Discovered during her attempted escape and later recovered by Chen Yi 12 13.
- Books: Receives tales, supernatural stories, and novels about ordinary city life from Chen Yi, including Tales of Three Foxes 27.
Relationships
- Chen Yi — Her killer’s target and eventual victim in his previous save; her captor and coerced partner in the altered timeline. Her fear and hatred coexist with dependence on him for protection and access to the outside world 1 2 14 28.
- Mother, Prince Xiang’s principal consort — Her strongest emotional attachment and moral influence. Memories of her mother make Silver Terrace Temple both a refuge and a means by which Chen Yi can control her 2 12 28.
- Prince Xiang — Her father. His secret involvement with the Bright-Dark Divine Sect leads to the household’s confiscation 1 2.
- Min Ning — Takes her from Chen Yi’s house, cares for her, and shields her from an Eastern Depot execution order 12 13 14.
- Min Ming — Tingxue protects her during Chen Yi’s confrontation over the poisoning, despite never having met her before 24.
- Bright-Dark Divine Sect — Secretly designates her its Holy Maiden and attempts to retrieve her. Tingxue views its rescue as an escape from punishment, not an expression of enthusiasm for the sect 2 4 13.

- Name meaning: “Tingxue” means “listening to snow.” Her mother named her after the snowfall accompanying her birth and believed there was Zen in falling snow 47.
- Game role: She is one of the main heroines of Beyond the Heavens, the game whose events Chen Yi remembers 1.
- “Little fox”: A loading-screen description characterizes her as tough outside and soft within, but willing to fight back; Chen Yi later uses the same animal as a nickname 2 37.
