"Xiao Ran, you spoke! Come on, say 'Brother Xiaohai'?"
When the little girl spoke, even Luo Xiaohai, who had been watching the two survivors fight with excited intensity, turned around and addressed her with a faintly ingratiating smile.
But the little girl merely held a carton of plain milk without speaking. She did not even look up at Luo Xiaohai.
"Xiao Ran, you like milk? I'll get you a few cartons. No, I'll get you a whole case so you can drink your fill. How about that?" Luo Xiaohai continued when he saw that she was ignoring him.
But the little girl still kept her head lowered, turning a deaf ear to his words.
"It looks like you and Xiao Ran really hit it off, young Luo Fan." Beside them, Luo Dahai also gave the little girl a surprised look before speaking to Luo Fan.
Luo Fan said nothing, merely casting an unobtrusive glance at Luo Xiaohai.
The Luo father and son were both ruthless men.
Yet this little girl named An Xiaoran actually commanded so much attention from them. Even the arrogant Luo Xiaohai seemed somewhat eager to please her.
This left Luo Fan inwardly puzzled. There seemed to be something special about this little girl.
"They're mine. These... these are mine."
Setting aside what the Sequence users gathered around the hot pot were thinking, the fight between the two survivors over two pieces of bread had finally produced a winner. Yes, it had also decided who lived and who died.
The dead man lay motionless on the ground, while the survivor was wounded too. A rock had split his head open, leaving blood streaming down, yet he held the two pieces of bread in utter delight.
An Xiaoran, who had remained silent all this time, set down her empty milk carton. Seemingly full after drinking the carton of milk, she rose and walked toward the survivor clutching the bread.
"M-Miss An..." Watching An Xiaoran approach him, the survivor tried hard to make his expression friendly.
All the survivors feared the Luo father and son.
But this survivor was clearly willing to get close to the little girl, An Xiaoran.
An Xiaoran said nothing, merely raising her palm toward the survivor.
Then specks of starlike green light suddenly appeared, rising over the survivor's body.
In just a dozen or so breaths, the survivor's wounds rapidly healed.
"Thank you, Miss An. Thank you, Miss An." Feeling that his wounds had healed completely, the survivor thanked An Xiaoran with boundless surprise and delight.
But An Xiaoran still said nothing. She turned and returned to the squad's small truck to rest in its cargo compartment, her manner quiet, without uttering a word.
Support Sequence? Healing?
Having witnessed An Xiaoran's actions firsthand, Luo Fan immediately recalled the awakenings of the eight basic Sequences that Zhao Chunfeng had told him about.
Clearly, what the little girl named An Xiaoran had just used was probably Healing, the basic skill awakened by the support sequence.
"Brother Luo, that little girl is actually a support sequence user. You're really lucky. With a Sequence user like that in your group, you can recover quickly from headaches or fevers, or even injuries from fighting Fierce Beasts."
Asking about someone else's Sequence awakening could easily provoke resentment and wariness, but since An Xiaoran had voluntarily displayed Healing, she had effectively revealed her identity in public. Zhao Chunfeng spoke to Luo Dahai with admiration tinged with envy.
Indeed, although the combat sequence could provide fighting strength when encountering Fierce Beasts and uncanny entities, it had its limits.
The other Sequences each had their own strengths too.
The support sequence could play a tremendously important role in a convoy.
"What you say is certainly true, but you've seen what little An is like. She refuses to communicate with people, so whether you receive her treatment depends more on her own wishes."
Hearing Zhao Chunfeng's words, Luo Dahai shook his head with a somewhat wry smile.
Both sides were fairly satisfied with the hot pot meal. After Zhao Chunfeng and Luo Dahai exchanged information and finished eating, they each went back.
"Dad, where did you just go? Shouldn't we be setting off?"
The Luo Family Town Convoy had not been in any hurry to leave. Seeing his father return, Luo Xiaohai asked him.
"I just went over to the Hope Convoy to find out a few things," Luo Dahai said with a smile.
"Find out a few things?" Luo Xiaohai looked at his father in puzzlement.
When they had first met, he had wanted to attack the Hope Convoy, but his father had scolded him for being too impulsive.
Yet during that hot pot meal, they had even brought out meat from a ranked ferocious beast. Shouldn't they hurry up and run? His father had actually taken the initiative to investigate them?
"As long as I offered a few supplies, those lowlifes were quite happy to chat with me."
"The Hope Convoy's Fierce Beast Meat was just a paper tiger. They deliberately used it to bluff us."
"That Zhao Chunfeng belongs to the prophecy sequence. He decides which route they take each day and how long they can stop."
"And that fellow named Luo Fan only awakened his Sequence a couple of days ago."
"Only the injured Niu Dagang has any fighting ability."
"Heaven really is helping me." By the time Luo Dahai finished speaking, greed showed in his eyes.
"So Zhao Chunfeng belongs to the prophecy sequence, and that Luo Fan probably belongs to the agriculture sequence, which is why he could produce fresh vegetables. That leaves only Niu Dagang, who's injured?"
Hearing his father's words, Luo Xiaohai immediately sat up straight.
"Exactly. That's how it is." Luo Dahai nodded with a smile.
With one and only one combat sequence user, who was injured at that, wasn't the Hope Squad a juicy piece of meat delivered right to their mouths?
"Brother Zhao, a support sequence user! More importantly, that little girl clearly doesn't have much of a relationship with the Luo father and son."
Back inside Niu Dagang's bus, the three Sequence users gathered together, and Luo Fan spoke first.
"Luo Fan, survivors are hard to come by in this apocalypse. If we can avoid fighting, shouldn't we?" Hearing Luo Fan's words, which clearly suggested attacking the Luo Family Town squad, Niu Dagang tried to dissuade him.
"Brother Niu, if we had a support sequence user, you'd have someone to heal you after you fought," Luo Fan said to Niu Dagang.
At this point, he paused briefly before adding, "I remember the support sequence's second skill is Shield, right? Brother Zhao, can that Shield only be cast on yourself, or can it be cast on anyone?"
"Shield can be cast on anyone," Zhao Chunfeng replied.
"Well, that..." Hearing Luo Fan mention the benefits of the support sequence, Niu Dagang hesitated, clearly tempted.
"Our Hope Convoy upholds the principle of equality for everyone. Even Sequence users like us don't seize supplies from ordinary people."
"But that Luo Family Town squad treats the other survivors entirely as slaves."
"Since we've encountered such villains, we naturally can't just stand by and do nothing."
"Punishing evil and promoting good is our bounden duty."
Suddenly looking as though he had been possessed by a saint, Zhao Chunfeng directly stated his position.
Heh, if I didn't know your real reason for bringing those ordinary survivors along with the convoy, I really would have believed that saintly speech of yours, Luo Fan silently snarked upon hearing Zhao Chunfeng's words.
Still, whatever the case, Zhao Chunfeng had also expressed his willingness to act, so Luo Fan naturally could not contradict him...
