Background / History
The Seven Spirits Sect’s Decline
Wang Weilong inherited responsibility for a sect whose foundational art, the Seven Luminaries Scripture, had proved dangerously flawed. Its founding ancestor died from cultivating it, returned through reincarnation, and died from the same art again. Wang Weilong consequently regarded further attempts to preserve the scripture as an unacceptable risk 34.
His preferred solution was to nurture a disciple capable of entering the Guangfa Sect as a True Disciple. Through that recommendation, the Seven Spirits Sect could acknowledge its scripture’s failure, surrender the original, and obtain a replacement orthodox art. He prioritized keeping the sect alive over preserving its existing cultivation tradition 34.
Secret Arrangements for Ao Ding
After Wang Daniangzi reported Ao Ding’s exceptional talent, Wang Weilong recognized his hidden Heavenly Eye Immortal Pupil and helped conceal it. Ao Ding’s ten-hour Foundation Establishment convinced him that the boy could become a Guangfa Sect True Disciple and secure the Seven Spirits Sect’s future 2 3 4.
Wang Weilong secretly arranged Ao Ding’s upbringing and cultivation:
- Assigned Wang He to the kitchen gardens to protect him and use the Northern Yin Diagram to establish his foundation 2 3.
- Instructed his younger female cousin, Wang Daniangzi, to watch over him 2 3.
- Encouraged the outer court to trouble him, intending its disciples to temper his character through adversity 3 34.
- Kept his aptitude concealed and deliberately prolonged his cultivation bottleneck, planning a rapid series of breakthroughs after sufficient accumulation 3 5.
- Prepared twelve thousand-year spiritual treasures, eighteen spirit beast inner cores, and other resources for his future cultivation 5.
- Arranged Luo Qiushui’s privilege of bringing one person into the inner sect, intending her to become Ao Ding’s dao companion 2.
He planned to take Ao Ding as his own disciple after emerging from seclusion. His willingness to use others as tools extended to the entire outer-court generation: he considered their lost cultivation prospects acceptable if they successfully honed Ao Ding, provided the sect compensated them with lifelong prosperity and protection through three reincarnations 2 3.
Ao Ding’s Departure and the Search
Wang Weilong deliberately remained in seclusion while Sun Chen visited. Although Sun Chen had cared for him in his youth, Wang feared involving the declining sect in Sun Chen’s conflict with the Demon Court and the consequences of his separation from the Pure Tenuity Sect 2 20 34.
On emerging, he discovered that Deputy Sect Master Wu had allowed Sun Chen to take Ao Ding in exchange for three Mystic Gang Pills. Furious, he struck Wu aside and searched a thousand li with his Divine Sense, but could not locate the departing True Person 2.
Wang He had also ordered Ao Ding’s remaining belongings destroyed, preventing their use as tracking media. Wang Weilong instead obtained a rouge box from Luo Qiushui and sought Yin Chimei’s assistance. Their joint divination was disrupted by Sun Chen 3 5.
The search eventually brought them to the Xuanjia Immortal Tree and Jiaxia Kingdom. Learning that Sun Chen’s party had already departed, Wang Weilong proposed continuing to Lingcheng County. Sun Chen’s concealed tomb remained inaccessible to him; its location had been removed from the memories of those below the True Person level 20.
Ao Ding’s Return
When Ao Ding returned three years later, Wang Weilong sent Wang He to the rear mountain and summoned Luo Qiushui, taking precautions against attempts to seize Sun Chen’s legacy. He subsequently confronted Wang He, whose earlier assistance to Ao Ding had concealed an intention to obtain that inheritance through him 32 33.
Wang Weilong argued that Sun Chen would have left Ao Ding powerful connections and safeguards. Rather than risk an attack, he urged Wang He to preserve the goodwill earned by giving Ao Ding the Northern Yin Iron Writ. He then provided Wang He with two thousand-year-old spirit medicines to support his stalled cultivation 33.
He also asked Luo Qiushui to stop Wu Linglong from pursuing Ao Ding, preventing a confrontation that could escalate into a feud involving the Wu household 33.
Disclosure and the Seven Luminaries Scripture
Wang Weilong caught up with Ao Ding near the sect’s territorial boundary and openly explained his arrangements, including his role in the outer court’s harassment. He presented this as a warning about the methods small sects used to temper promising disciples, rather than a demand for gratitude 34.
After hearing that Sun Chen had successfully undergone Liberation by Violence, Wang Weilong recalled his former kindness with mixed emotions. He urged Ao Ding to search carefully for Sun Chen’s reincarnation, escorted him beyond the sect’s territory, and privately questioned whether his own earlier decision had been wrong 34.
When Luo Qiushui requested the Seven Luminaries Scripture, Wang Weilong initially refused. He eventually allowed her to study it under his personal guard, on the condition that she stop after entering the Jade Palace and later select another orthodox art at Myriad Dharma Mountain 34.
Personality
Wang Weilong is cautious, calculating, and intensely concerned with institutional survival. His refusal to help Sun Chen stems from fear that the Seven Spirits Sect cannot withstand the resulting enemies. Even under Wang He’s accusations of cowardice and failure, he remains focused on the consequences for the whole sect 3 20 33.
His care for talented disciples is genuine but controlling. He invests heavily in Ao Ding’s protection and future while secretly arranging his isolation, antagonists, cultivation delays, and prospective marriage. He considers such manipulation a practical means of preparing disciples for the greater sects 2 3 34.
He is also capable of restraint and self-doubt. Rather than exploit Ao Ding’s return, he prevents others from attacking him. His later conversation with Ao Ding leaves him openly questioning his treatment of Sun Chen 33 34.
