Killing a city's guard was an outright provocation and an affront to the city.
Normally, the city would respond by sending someone to kill the offender.
But Minglong City clearly did not fall within the bounds of "normal."

At the city gates, the local residents of Minglong City, all wearing waist tokens, clapped and cheered.
The few outsiders without waist tokens stared intently at Lin Yuan, seemingly eager to step forward and fight him.
Just then, Lin Yuan noticed that the cloud of blood mist left behind by the soldier earlier had not dispersed. Instead, it split into streams of blood energy, which the soldiers linked by the battle formation absorbed into their bodies.
After absorbing the blood mist, the soldiers lost every trace of their earlier listlessness and immediately became spirited.

"I killed your colleague. Don't you have any reaction?"
The soldier froze, then asked in bewilderment:
"Didn't we already give you our approval?"

The soldier continued on his own:
"Here in Slaughter City, isn't killing and being killed only natural?"
"You must have come here to grow stronger through slaughter as well, haven't you?"
"In any case, enjoy your killing! And enjoy being killed too!"
