Background / History

Arrival in the Sailing Game

Before arriving at sea, Lin Yuan visited a Taoist temple because of his poor luck. A priest predicted that his fortunes were about to reverse; Lin Yuan instead encountered a Dongfeng truck and subsequently awoke in the ocean 1.

When the system failed to provide him with a separate ship, it identified “Lin Yuan” as an unbound, self-aware special vessel. Its contingency procedure treated him as a player and merged his player and ship panels. He retained a human appearance but received ship-scale attributes and had to travel through the water himself 1.

Discovering the Layered Sea

Lin Yuan experimentally established that the surface and the ten-meter boundary separated distinct underwater worlds. He tested Wooden Armor against a shark’s bite and killed the shark with one punch. Below twenty meters, a human-faced fish prevented him from surfacing while depth-related durability loss began; he escaped by harpooning it and crushing its face 2 3.

His first encounter with Lilia began as a fight over her drifting coffin. After breaking his own arm against the indestructible coffin, he learned that she had answered a summons associated with him. The mysterious box inside his blueprint produced the Contract of Fate, making her his first crew member 6 7 8.

The Main Sea Predator

An enormous shadow from the Main Sea repeatedly targeted Lin Yuan. During its first successful attack, he severed his own ankle with Steel Harpoon to escape its Invisible Chains, then sheltered with Lilia inside her coffin. Lilia identified a Prey Mark on him and warned that the creature would return, giving him an urgent reason to upgrade himself 12 13.

After obtaining stronger armor and the lightblade, he could cut the creature’s transmitted chains. His attempt to investigate it near the Main Sea boundary still nearly ended in capture when it launched a freezing horn at him. He escaped with summoned skeletons and the Shell Pump, then converted the recovered horn into the Frost Sea Serpent Ram. The horn suggested a possible identity for the predator, but he considered the evidence inconclusive 33 34.

Skull Island

In the beginner dungeon, Lin Yuan discovered that going ashore caused grounding damage. Lilia’s coffin became his means of moving inland while recovering. He defeated the Undead Tree using propulsion, an anchoring harpoon, Lilia’s scythe, and explosives, then found notes belonging to a former player who had failed a main quest 17 18 20.

The notes led to a laboratory whose sanity-attacking wraith could not harm either him or Lilia. There, his mysterious box enabled him to retrieve the Death Seed. After surviving the laboratory’s destruction, Lilia defeated the Skeleton Pirate Captain, earning Lin Yuan the dungeon clear and Paradise Sea Chart 21 22 23 24.

Lin Yuan then used summoned skeletons to gather resources and discovered that the island rested on a gigantic sunken hull. He salvaged 1,800 units of deactivated Life Wood and a Life Tree Sprout, using much of the timber for his Level 2 upgrade. The sinking island-ship’s final plea was to save the world; despite Lilia calling him a hero, he denied having that intention 25 27 28 29.

Rubber Island and Land-Travel Plans

Seeking rubber for a Production Workshop, Lin Yuan traveled to a multiplayer island dungeon. He and Lilia rescued Bai Ling from attackers connected to the Diving Club and Crawlers. Her sensitivity to transcendent power supplied the danger-detection ability that both of them lacked 35 38 39 41.

Bai Ling guided him to a dying giant turtle imprisoned by the Giant Tree Forest. It entrusted him with the island-ship’s Captain’s Quarters Key before disintegrating. Taking the key provoked the Rubber Beasts, which Lin Yuan cleared before withdrawing ahead of the approaching Tree King 47 48.

His attempt to board the Adventurer Group’s land-capable ship damaged both its deck and his own durability. Learning that land-travel conversion required an artisan, he considered becoming one himself to avoid exposing his player–ship fusion. Bai Ling agreed to contact his account, Zero, when the friends feature became available so she could pass along the conversion diagrams 49 50.

Personality

Lin Yuan combines curiosity with practical experimentation. He tests underwater boundaries, defenses, and equipment rather than accepting their apparent rules. That curiosity can become dangerous: despite knowing the Main Sea predator is stronger, he approaches its boundary to obtain information for future preparations 2 16 33.

His confidence changes quickly when confronted with a genuine threat. Initially delighted by his overwhelming advantage over ordinary players, he abandons that complacency after being marked as prey. His immediate ambition becomes surviving through ship upgrades, with an earlier goal of becoming invincible throughout the Paradise Sea 1 9 13.

He is sarcastic and easily exasperated by Lilia’s nicknames, forgetfulness, and literal-minded replies. Nevertheless, he relies heavily on her, protects her when stronger opponents appear, and recognizes the value of her otherwise unusual abilities 9 19 21.

Lin Yuan values independence and secrecy. He trades with established organizations for information and resources but refuses recruitment because close oversight could reveal his fused identity. He also discovers that a hard-fought victory can be exhilarating, particularly after defeating the Undead Tree through his own tactics 20 32 50.

Abilities & Skills

Humanoid Ship Physiology

Lin Yuan’s body functions as a ship whose systems correspond to human body regions 3.

Body Region Ship Function
Hands and arms Weapon compartments; damage can disable the associated weapon system 3 7
Abdomen Storage room; a penetrating injury can temporarily prevent storage access 3 34
Legs and feet Engine compartments 3 13 16
Chest Crew quarters 3
Heart E-rank Transcendent Core Compartment, added with the Level 2 hull 28
Brain Mysterious Treasure Collection Room 3 4 23
  • Durability replaces health: Injuries are treated as hull or compartment damage. He has no ordinary anatomical weak points and eventually reports no pain after panel fusion 1 34.
  • Aquatic operation: Floats naturally and does not need to breathe underwater 1 3.
  • Depth restrictions: Descending beyond his hull’s supported depth drains durability. Deep-Dive Shield Bubble Soap provides a means of undertaking deeper dives 2 25 26 33.
  • Grounding restrictions: Going ashore drains durability; attempting to board another ship also damages him and the vessel 17 49.
  • Storage limitations: Cannot store living things, and stored objects remain subject to time and physical interactions 3.

Active Wooden Armor

A passive defense that ignores physical attacks unable to penetrate its equivalent wooden thickness 15 28.

  • At Level 2, provides protection equivalent to one meter of wood, rising to two meters under repeated attacks 28.
  • Applies only to physical attacks, not every form of supernatural effect 28.
  • Allows him to withstand large numbers of weaker enemies with little danger from their ordinary attacks 48.

Harpoon Attack

Projects a shipboard harpoon attached to a retractable, ethereal rope 3.

  • Penetration mode: Inflicts heavy physical damage and, after the shark-tooth upgrade, continuous bleeding 16.
  • Anchoring mode: Deploys barbs inside the target, resisting escape 16.
  • Grappling application: Can pull Lin Yuan toward a stationary target rather than pulling the target toward him 20.
  • Reload limitation: His documented harpoon takes approximately five minutes to retract and become ready again 3 34.

Frost Sea Serpent Ram

Summons a freezing ram attack in the direction his head faces 34.

  • Attacks within a range of slightly under five meters, with a ten-second cooldown 34.
  • Freezes enemies within its attack range; duration depends on enemy strength and surroundings 34.
  • Grants 400 additional Strength, improving his ordinary physical attacks as well 34.
  • Its short cooldown and freezing effect make it effective against Rubber Beast groups 46 47.

Sanity-Attack Immunity

Lin Yuan has no recorded Sanity stat, leaving attacks that exclusively damage Sanity ineffective against him 1 22.

  • Completely counters the laboratory wraith’s soul flames 22.
  • Does not grant universal supernatural immunity; freezing and Invisible Chains still affect him 13 33.
  • Removes the warning mechanism ordinary players use to estimate danger and trace transcendent power 9 41.

Repair and Coffin Restoration

Lin Yuan has two distinct recovery methods 5 9.

  • Emergency Repair: Automatically consumes stored timber to restore durability while out of combat. It is exclusive to the Paradise Sea; an early test restored approximately 20 durability per unit of ordinary wood 1 5.
  • Compartment repair: Can repair internal systems without first retrieving timber from storage, even when storage access is disabled 34.
  • Inherited coffin recovery: Resting in Lilia’s coffin gradually restores durability and damaged compartments, including severed limbs 9 13.
  • Limit: His inherited trait does not provide Lilia’s full resurrection ability 9.

Mysterious Treasure Collection Room

A star-filled compartment containing crystal platforms and a sealed box bearing Lin Yuan’s name 3 4.

  • Stores the Death Seed while suppressing its supernatural effects, allowing Lin Yuan to isolate its dangers between uses 23.
  • Rejects ordinary materials, magical creature remains, and conventional supernatural equipment 23.
  • Houses the mysterious box at its central platform, while the Death Seed occupies an outer platform 23.
  • The box can act beyond the room’s normal suppression, but Lin Yuan cannot deliberately control it 23.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Seashell Pump Propeller / Shell Pump — Grade E, biologically active ship equipment installed in his right leg. Consumes biomass rather than conventional fuel, produces no smoke, and generates controllable water jets. Stored seawater permits brief movement outside the water; prolonged exertion requires feeding and rest 16 20 35.
  • Templar Apprentice Lightblade — Also called the Holy Hall Light Blade. An armguard-generated weapon that cuts physical and intangible targets. Its durability drain scales from 8 to 100 points per second; maximum output creates a nearly two-meter blade capable of slicing through a twenty-centimeter steel block 29 30 33.
  • Death Seed — Converts his durability into an Undead Legion. Spending 5,000 durability produced fewer than 100 skeletons, including Skeleton Pirate Captains. Their weapons can strike intangible targets. Uncontrolled effects include life drain accompanied by immobilization and the danger of summoning the Nether River 23 25 33 34.
  • Mysterious named box — Bears the characters “Lin Yuan.” Produces the Contract of Fate and supplies the power needed to retrieve the Death Seed, but resists his attempts to open it 4 8 22.
  • “Explore the Sea” cannon blueprint — Purchased from Research Institute 3154 for five magical creature corpses. Generates its own ammunition; finished power depends on construction materials. Lin Yuan plans to use superior materials rather than immediately build a weaker version 14 15.
  • Production Workshop blueprint — Obtained from the Skull Island reward chest. Drives his subsequent search for rubber and a Steam Core 25 35.
  • Paradise Sea Chart — Awarded for clearing Skull Island; provides positional information and supports route planning 24 28 32.
  • Captain’s Quarters Key — Antique bronze key entrusted to him by the dying giant turtle; taking it provokes the surrounding Giant Tree Forest 47.
  • Undead Treant Core — Grade D material suitable for extraordinary crafting or a Level 4 ship’s keel. Using it as a keel would imbue the ship with an aura of death 20.
  • Life Tree Sprout — Salvaged from Skull Island’s underlying hull; removing it causes the island to sink noticeably 27.
  • Damaged cannon — Recovered by his skeleton workforce and retained as a potential repair project once the Production Workshop is built 28.

Relationships

  • Lilia — First crew member, bound through the Contract of Fate. Provides sea lore, shared vision, coffin transport, shelter, and restoration. Their cooperation is accompanied by constant teasing and Lin Yuan’s frustration with her unreliable memory 8 9 13 21 26.
  • Bai Ling — Rescued player and temporary companion whose Inspiration helps locate threats and resources. She regards Lin Yuan as a powerful uncanny being rather than understanding his ship identity, and owes him the land-travel conversion diagrams 41 44 47 50.
  • Research Institute 3154 — Information source and trading partner. Supplies the cannon blueprint and rubber-island coordinates; privately recommends maintaining relations with Zero and reporting him as a seeded contender despite his refusal to join 14 32.
  • Air Force Bro — Trading partner who exchanges the life-draining lightblade armguard for Lin Yuan’s jade fishing rod and 200 steel 29.
  • Never Skunked — Fellow player who trades Man-Eating Shark Teeth for Lin Yuan’s revolver, enabling the harpoon upgrade 16.
  • Spotlight — Adventurer Group captain involved in negotiations over land-travel technology. Mistakes the damage caused by Lin Yuan boarding his ship for evidence of monstrous strength 49 50.
  • Main Sea dark shadow — Persistent predator responsible for Lin Yuan’s Prey Mark. Its pursuit drives his early upgrades; its true identity remains unresolved after the Frost Sea Serpent Horn attack 13 33 34.
