When Meng Chichi saw those photos online, it felt as though the sky had fallen. She could not believe her eyes.
Wasn't Su Li supposed to be the one getting viciously cursed out right now? How had she suddenly become the unlucky one?? Where had these photos come from? If she couldn't resolve this, wouldn't her career as a star be over?
She immediately called her manager. "Brother Liu... Brother Liu, what's going on with those photos? Didn't you say there were no cameras? And those chat logs, what on earth is going on?!"
"Don't panic yet. I'm also investigating who took the photos and leaked the logs. The team is already working on it. Also, who exactly did you offend? Why did all this suddenly come out?"
Her manager had a headache over this too. He knew about everything Meng Chichi had done, and had even arranged some of it himself. She had been willing too, trading her body for resources plenty of times. Everyone who knew was one of their own, and there had been no problems for so many years. Why had it suddenly come to light this time?
"I... I don't know! There's only Su Li, isn't there? It couldn't be him! He's just some nobody. Surely I can afford to offend him?" Meng Chichi said through tears.
He inwardly cursed her stupidity, but could only comfort her aloud. "Chichi, don't worry yet. The company will resolve this. Go wash your face and get some sleep. It'll be fine tomorrow. Get some rest. You still have the show to record."
Looking at the situation, he felt it would be better to give up on Meng Chichi. With such conclusive evidence exposed, there was no coming back from this, let alone staying on the show.
"Okay... okay, Brother Liu. I-I'll listen to you. I still have the show to record. And that Su Li, I still have to deal with him," she said, sobbing.
She felt her manager was right. The company and her team would definitely help her. When she woke up tomorrow, the public backlash would be gone. She had to pull herself together. Once the show finished recording, everything could be just like before!
With that thought, she rallied a little and got up to wash in the bathroom.
She turned on the bathtub faucet to run herself a bath, only to turn her head and discover that the water slowly flowing from the faucet had turned red!
The water in the entire bathtub turned as red as blood. It looked very eerie.
"What is this??" Her eyes widened, only for her to see a woman's face slowly emerge in the blood-red water!
The skin on the face looked swollen and pale from soaking, and had even peeled off in places!
The bathroom light suddenly went out.
"Aah!!!" Meng Chichi screamed and tried to run out of the bathroom, but no matter what she did, the door would not open.
In the darkness, she heard wet footsteps coming from behind her. As they drew closer and closer, her fear grew.
"Don't kill me. Please, let me go..." Tears covered Meng Chichi's face as she kept twisting the doorknob.
Click. The light came back on.
In her terror, Meng Chichi instinctively glanced back. There was no female ghost, and the water in the bathtub was clear.
Her mind was in chaos now. She did not know whether she had been hallucinating. Instinctively, she twisted the doorknob again, and this time, the door opened.
She fled the bathroom as though running for her life, picked up her phone, and tried to leave the room while calling for help.
But to her surprise, no one answered the phone, and the room's door would not open either.
Why won't this one open either? Meng Chichi felt as though she could barely breathe.
Her assistant did not answer, so she called her manager instead. "Pick up. Pick up!!"
The call connected a moment later, and she felt as though she had caught hold of a lifeline. "Brother Liu, save me! There's a ghost here trying to kill me! Hurry and save me!!"
But the voice that came through the phone was unfamiliar, hoarse and terrifying. "All right, I'm coming."
The phone slowly slipped from her hand and fell to the floor. Meng Chichi knelt on the floor, her gaze vacant and her mouth slightly open, despair enveloping her.
Suddenly, she began pounding frantically on the door as though she had gone mad, shouting, "Help!! Is anyone there? Hurry and save me!!"
Click. The room's light suddenly went out again.
Meng Chichi's voice caught in her throat. She heard those familiar wet footsteps coming from the bathroom.
Step... step...
Had the ghost come out of the bathroom?
She felt an icy hand settle on her shoulder.
Meng Chichi was on the verge of breaking down. She pounded on the door even more frantically, and it finally opened.
Before she could feel any joy, she saw someone standing in the doorway, covered in blood. His face was pale, bluish, and rotting, and his eyeballs nearly bulged out of their sockets. He smiled at her and said, "I'm here to save you."
Meng Chichi's mind collapsed in an instant. Her eyes rolled back, and she passed out.
Zheng Xing gave a mocking smile, shut the door, and went inside.
Ignoring the unconscious Meng Chichi, he addressed the bathroom ghost in front of him. "You did well."
"Then can you let me go now? I already did what you told me to..." There was actually a trace of fear in the female ghost's voice. She was no match for Zheng Xing.
"Just keep staying here. If the boss has any orders, he'll send someone to find you."
"O-okay." He's this strong, and he still has a boss?
"Then what about this woman?" the female ghost asked.
Zheng Xing stepped forward and stuck a small piece of paper glowing with bluish light onto Meng Chichi's forehead. The paper gradually disappeared.
This was a talisman Su Li had made using fear. Others could use it, but its effect was weak, inferior to his personal guidance.
However, it could amplify the target's fear. The more frightened they became, the more confused their mind would grow.
After all, he could not come in person to guide Meng Chichi's emotions. He could only prepare a talisman and have Zheng Xing bring it over.
"Ignore her. By tomorrow, she'll either be insane or an idiot." Zheng Xing gave her an icy glance, then shot the female ghost a warning look before turning to leave.
His glance made the female ghost shudder. She wondered to herself when this Hanged Ghost had become so strong, and acquired a boss, too.
The next morning.
Su Li was in An Hui's room. He had come to thank him for speaking up for him on Feibo a few days earlier.
"I believe you're not that kind of person. Besides, all that discourse online yesterday was obviously someone trying to bring you down. It was probably Meng Chichi, though I doubt even she expected to suddenly get exposed herself..." An Hui frowned.
Su Li also looked thoughtful as he said, "I'm curious too. Who posted those photos? It probably wasn't my company. They don't bother with me. I even found that assistant myself, and look how that turned out."
"When your contract's nearly up, try to switch companies. In this industry, it's better to find a reliable one. You can consider joining mine in the future. I can put in a word for you."
An Hui had a very favorable impression of Su Li, and felt he had prospects, so he wanted to help him out.
"Thanks, Brother An. I'll consider it if I get the chance." Su Li looked very moved.
As the two were talking, they heard a commotion outside the door.
"What's all that noise?" Su Li opened the door and discovered a crowd of staff outside Meng Chichi's room.
Su Li said to An Hui, "It looks like something happened over at Meng Chichi's?"
When the two went out to look, they discovered that Cheng Sirong and Chen Zhuo were already there. Apparently, they had all come to watch the drama.
"You're here too. What happened over there?" An Hui asked.
"What else? She's gone mad. The kind even her assistant can't control," Chen Zhuo said, his eyes full of schadenfreude.
Su Li and An Hui looked utterly surprised. "Gone mad?? Why?"
