Personality

Zheng Xing is intensely loyal to Su Li and takes pride in being recognized as his subordinate. Having expected to remain a wandering ghost in darkness, he is deeply moved by the strength, freedom, and trust Su Li gives him. Receiving the Black Strange Pattern makes him kneel in gratitude; he reflects that no one had trusted him so much even while he was alive 12 30.

He approaches assistant work with unusual dedication. Determined to become an all-around assistant, he studies books, practices massage on a dummy, and anticipates practical needs such as transport, refreshments, and shade. His attentiveness earns praise from Su Li’s friends and livestream viewers 23 35 61.

His deference toward Su Li contrasts sharply with his ruthlessness toward anyone who insults or obstructs him. He offers to kill Meng Chichi, threatens Wang Xiang into obedience, and attacks Li Xin for disrespecting his master. He also polices loyalty among the other ghosts, warning that he will destroy anyone who betrays Su Li 13 17 29 67.

History

Becoming Su Li’s Assistant

Zheng Xing originally belonged to the haunted Manor and was captured by Su Li. By the time Su Li asks his name, he has served him for several days and received two strength enhancements. He explains to the Under-Table Ghost that loyal, diligent service brings rewards, proudly presenting himself as an example 12 30 37.

Once his Soul Crystal-enhanced body can withstand sunlight, Su Li formally appoints him as his assistant. Zheng Xing is delighted that he can appear openly among humans again and resolves to become the best assistant in the world 13.

Meng Chichi’s attempt to portray Su Li as having a sugar daddy draws Zheng Xing into an online scandal over his delivery of a meal. Xiao Qian publicly identifies him as Su Li’s assistant, while Su Li posts a résumé and work ID fabricated by Yuan. Zheng Xing subsequently helps terrorize Meng Chichi and applies Su Li’s fear-amplifying talisman to her forehead 14 15.

Establishing His Position

Zheng Xing helps retrieve the Headless Female Ghost and brings the Manor’s competing ghosts into cooperation under Su Li. He later intimidates Wang Xiang into following Su Li’s filming arrangements and helps conceal Liu Jinjian’s incapacitation 17 29 30.

Su Li rewards his competence and loyalty with the Black Strange Pattern, explicitly recognizing him as a true confidant. After leaving the Manor, Zheng Xing secures Wang Xiang’s future cooperation and continues handling Su Li’s daily needs. When Su Li moves into a larger villa, Zheng Xing receives a room on his floor rather than the fourth floor assigned to the other ghosts 30 35 39.

Ghost Hunts and Huai Village

At the historic residence used for filming, Zheng Xing helps capture the lake ghosts and receives two Soul Crystals. He also explains the reward’s purpose to the Headless Female Ghost when she receives one of her own 45.

Before the Huai Village variety show, Su Li appoints Tan Qian as Zheng Xing’s deputy. Together, they clear the haunted courtyard where Su Li is staying. Zheng Xing later restrains the village chief during questioning and assists Xie Zhirou in fighting the ghosts guarding the Ghost Zombie’s coffin 51 56 64 66.

Following the show, Zheng Xing attacks Li Xin for insulting Su Li and Lin Chuan. Su Li orders that Li Xin be left alive; Zheng Xing throws him against a tree, and Li Xin’s spiritual power disappears permanently. Lin Chuan later recalls the incident as Zheng Xing instantly crippling Li Xin 67 68 75.

Later Service

Zheng Xing investigates the rumors surrounding D City Medical University’s Ghost Bridge and accompanies Su Li’s group there during the punishment of Fan Xiaolei. He also joins the group brought to an abandoned building for a joint operation with the Demon-Suppression Bureau 75 78 90.

In France, he restrains John when the Rot Family’s representatives threaten Su Li. At Su Li and Yuan’s wedding, he appears onstage to announce that the ceremony will begin in thirty minutes, startling viewers with his arrival and disappearance 97 102.
