Zheng Yan Che was not someone who often took the initiative. Between the two of them, Yan Ningke had always been the one to message him. This was the first time he had reached out first.
Worried something had happened, Yan Ningke found a quiet spot and hurriedly called him back.
"Brother Zheng?"
Only a small desk lamp was on in the office. Zheng Yan Che stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing blankly at the nighttime traffic.
"Ningke, I haven't congratulated you yet. Your new drama is a huge hit."
Hearing his usual tone, Yan Ningke relaxed a little and replied with a smile, "Just a verbal congratulations? Surely this calls for a big celebratory meal."
"No problem," Zheng Yan Che said generously. "Pick wherever you want to eat."
"Malatang!" Yan Ningke blurted out.
Once people suddenly had money, they wanted to splurge to make up for past deprivation. Yan Ningke was no exception. His greatest dream was to eat his fill at a malatang shop!
Zheng Yan Che chuckled. "Sure. As much as you want!"
Yan Ningke's joy carried through the phone, drawing an unconscious smile from Zheng Yan Che as well.
"By the way, was that all you called about? There's something else, isn't there?"
Zheng Yan Che's hand slowly tightened, and his lips moved.
When no sound came from the other end, Yan Ningke thought the signal had dropped. He checked and found the call was still connected.
"Brother Zheng?"
His throat was painfully dry after going so long without water. Zheng Yan Che took a deep breath. "I..."
"Teacher Yan, hurry over! We're taking photos!"
Yan Ningke called back in acknowledgment and brought the phone to his ear again. Before he could say anything, Zheng Yan Che spoke first.
"Go take care of things. It's nothing."
