The Sea King knelt before him, and all the golden-armored generals in the great hall knelt as well.

Mu Bai had gone to the capital to sit the imperial examinations. After finally donning the robes of the top scholar, he had been banished to the wildlands for refusing an arranged marriage, then abducted overseas by an old Daoist to cultivate the arts.
