No one dared approach, so Mu Bai put away the Short Sword and held out both hands. Only after the middle-aged village chief barked harsh orders did a few villagers dare come over and tie Mu Bai up again.
"Don't hurt that grandfather and granddaughter, or I'll roast every last one of you!"
Before leaving, Mu Bai did not forget to threaten them, lest they harm Jing'er and her grandfather.
As they escorted him along, Mu Bai did not stoop to quarreling with the villagers. Hearing their stomachs rumble all the way, he found it rather funny.
It was nearly evening by the time the group reached the Three Deities Palace again. Mu Bai wanted to go inside and see just how magnificent this so-called Divine Palace was.
Before they even entered, the aroma of wine and meat reached them. The God Disciples had slaughtered all the livestock the worshippers had brought and were eating great chunks of meat and taking hearty swigs of wine in the courtyard.
"Mmm, delicious!"
"Will these women blab when they go home?"
"They volunteered to stay and serve the deities. Why would we let them go home? Once we've had our fun, we'll throw them into the back mountains to feed the wolves."
"Please don't, my lord deity! We won't say anything. We'll stay in the palace forever and serve the deities and all you lords."
A dozen or so young female worshippers knelt obediently on the ground in disheveled clothing, serving the God Disciples and letting them abuse and toy with them.
"That depends on how you perform. If you do well, I'll recommend you to the Divine Envoy to become God Disciples. Not only will you be guaranteed entry into paradise, but your families will share in your glory."
