Ch. 161The bitter sea was hard to cross

After Mu Bai became the Top Scholar, he refused the emperor’s demand to marry a princess and was abducted by an old Taoist to the Misty Overseas Lands. He spent fifty years learning Flight through the Sky and returned home, only to reunite with Ruohua as she died; Mu Bai died soon after, and they were buried together in death.

  • Mu Bai returned to Ruohua after fifty years apart, but she died in his arms, and Mu Bai soon died beside her.

Ch. 162Clam Tears Nurture a Pearl

Mu Bai received the Moon Sea Pearl from Madam Seven Emotions, who asked him to seek the man from her painting and ask whether he remembered the Moon Mirage Clam. Ye Wan then trapped Mu Bai in a rustic village illusion, where he became village chief and was drawn into its strange customs.

  • Madam Seven Emotions gave Mu Bai the Moon Sea Pearl, explained that she had waited three thousand years for the man in the painting, and asked Mu Bai to ask him about the Moon Mirage Clam if they met.
  • Ye Wan arrived, and after Mu Bai teased her about being his wife, she transformed the lakeside into a village and declared him its village chief.
  • Madam Seven Emotions and Ye Wan decided Mu Bai could stay with Ye Wan while she completed her transformation, and a farmer dragged him off to deliver his baby.
  • The villagers brought Mu Bai into the birth room, where the newborn Chen Xiaoxiao opened his eyes at the village chief and received his name.
  • Third Chen held a feast for the baby and the other villagers urged Mu Bai to deliver their future children as well.

Ch. 163A Thousand-Year-Old Village

Mu Bai tried to escape the village but learned from Madam Seven Emotions that he and Ye Wan had been taken more than a thousand years into the past, where they were expected to live. As Ye Wan put him to work planting rice seedlings, Chen Laosan arrived with reports of a strange disappearance and an ox bitten by a snake.

  • Mu Bai failed to escape the village and learned from the Artifact Spirit Ancestor that Madam Seven Emotions was powerful and that he should wait for a chance to leave.
  • Madam Seven Emotions used her power to make Mu Bai experience the seven emotions, then ordered him to stay and live with Ye Wan.
  • After sleeping outside the courtyard, Mu Bai was taken by Ye Wan to plant rice seedlings and began to see the work as a lesson about life and cultivation.
  • Chen Laosan reported that his paralyzed father had suddenly leaped away after hearing about his grandson's birth.
  • Ye Wan told Mu Bai that her mother had opened a time tunnel and brought them more than a thousand years into the past, and that they might have to live until their own time returned.
  • Another Chen Laosan reported that an ox had been bitten by a snake, and Mu Bai agreed to look at it while dismissing the search for the missing father.

Ch. 164A Journey Back Through Time

Mu Bai saved Chen Laosan’s ox from a king snake’s venom, then joined the villagers for a lavish meal where he discovered the village held strange treasures and secrets. After an awkward evening with Ye Wan and Madam Seven Emotions, he questioned the Artifact Spirit Ancestor about whether he had truly traveled back in time, and the Ancestor explained the possibilities of time travel at the Great Perfection Realm.

  • Mu Bai treated Chen Laosan’s poisoned ox, then tracked down and killed the king snake with his Soul Soldier shortsword.
  • Mu Bai accepted Chen Laosan’s invitation to lunch, where Chen Laosan’s supposedly paralyzed father returned carrying a Dragon Turtle and a pair of Sea Dragon Jade Pendants for his grandson.
  • Mu Bai spent the afternoon eating and drinking with the Chen Laosans, then met Ye Wan in the fields and walked home with her.
  • Mu Bai spoke carelessly to Madam Seven Emotions, whose mood stirred distant thunder, and fled before her clothes could change color.
  • Mu Bai stayed on a field ridge until midnight and asked the Artifact Spirit Ancestor whether they had traveled more than a thousand years into the past.
  • The Artifact Spirit Ancestor said the time travel was likely an illusion but described how a cultivator at the Great Perfection Realm could visit and alter the past and future.

Ch. 165The Sunken Land Beneath the Ocean

Mu Bai accompanied Third Chen to the underwater Augugalo Continent so Third Chen could obtain Sea Ridge Soul Milk for his grandson. After Third Chen fought his way past the Sea King Hall's guards, the Sea King focused his attention on Mu Bai, Madam Seven Emotions' son-in-law.

  • Third Chen gave Mu Bai fins so he could fly underwater, then led him to a gigantic lava giant whose belly contained the Augugalo Continent.
  • Third Chen entered the underwater realm with Mu Bai and took the lead toward the Sea King Hall after admiring the Sea Silk Clan girls.

  • The Sea King transformed and rallied Sea King Hall’s warriors to defend against a sudden attack, while Chen Laosan carried Mu Bai out to see the battle.
  • Chen Laosan and the Sea King struggled against the giant sea squid as Luo Hai, Luo Yang, and the armored warriors fought Dragon King Whales.
  • Chen Laosan drove a Dragon King Whale into the squid, then joined forces with the Sea King and the lava giant to hold it back.
  • Artifact Spirit Ancestor urged Chen Laosan to attack the squid’s rear, and Chen Laosan stabbed its tail, releasing a torrent of black ink that covered him.

Chen Laosan and the Artifact Spirit Ancestor helped defeat the Giant Sea Squid and kill one Dragon King Whale, earning Mu Bai the Sea Ridge Soul Milk promised by the Sea King. After drinking it, Mu Bai heard the sea and the whispers of the sea beasts.

  • Chen Laosan drove his harpoon through the Giant Sea Squid's wounded backside, routing it, while the Sea King promised him two taels of Sea Ridge Soul Milk.
  • The Sea King halted the attack on the remaining Dragon King Whales to avoid provoking them into self-destruction, but the Artifact Spirit Ancestor took Mu Bai to fight one anyway.
  • The Artifact Spirit Ancestor enlarged the Three-Legged Crow Cauldron inside a Dragon King Whale's blowhole, suffocating it while the Sea King kept the other whales away.
  • The suffocated whale died at the surface, and the other two Dragon King Whales fled as the Armor-Clad Warriors began cutting up the corpse.
  • The Sea King gave Mu Bai a bottle of Sea Ridge Soul Milk, honoring the Sea King Hall's promise, and Mu Bai drank it.

Mu Bai led the sea beast army in a campaign to conquer the Origin Realm after returning to the continent and discovering that his wife Ruohua was gone. After a sword strike in the river of time blocked his attempt to remain with her in the past, he attacked the Sacred Land plateau and demanded that its powers submit.

  • Mu Bai united the sea’s myriad races and led them in an invasion of the continent, destroying its armies, imperial palace, and Erlang Mountain.
  • Mu Bai traveled back a thousand years to see Ruohua, but a hidden sword strike erased her presence and wounded him; he glimpsed a golden figure he believed was bound to his fate.
  • Mu Bai returned to the present, created Ruohua Peak in his inner world, and led his army across the Eastern Ridge and Southern Marsh toward the Sacred Land plateau.
  • The Sea King, Whale King, Dragonfish King, and Kun King led assaults that broke through the plateau’s mountain giants and soul ship formations.
