"Master, I saw it."
A delighted voice suddenly rang out, and the girl bounced happily like a child showing off her grades.
"What did you see?"
Hearing her voice, Yu Ziyu perked up a little.
This was good news.
"Uh... I can't describe it."
After a moment of silence, the girl spoke somewhat awkwardly, then shook her head and added:
"But I think I can let you see it, Master."
As she spoke, her gaze suddenly sharpened, and an invisible force began to surge.
At that very moment, images surfaced in Yu Ziyu's mind.
There was a village, where many people seemed to be crying.
The scene shifted, and Yu Ziyu saw two beds.
Lying on those beds were He Qing'er and He Ling'er.
"Village chief, please accept my condolences. Qing'er probably won't make it, but there's still hope for Ling'er. She's only unconscious right now."
"Unconscious? It's more than that. Her high fever still hasn't broken. Ah..."
The indistinct voices drifted over slowly, bringing Yu Ziyu a little relief.
Just as he had thought, He Qing'er, the soul here, could sense what was happening to her younger sister, He Ling'er.
Just then, a delighted voice suddenly rang out:
"Master, I realized that I think I can move!"
Immediately afterward, the scene in Yu Ziyu's mind shifted. A girl lay on a bed, her face very pale and dripping with sweat, and her finger suddenly twitched.
"She moved! She moved! Village chief, Ling'er's finger moved!"
An excited cry suddenly rang out inside the little house.
But before Yu Ziyu could look closely, the images grew blurry, until they finally vanished.
As his awareness returned to reality, Yu Ziyu turned his gaze toward He Qing'er, whose eyes remained closed nearby, his expression somewhat complicated.
Telepathy was a very special ability involving the soul, and even Yu Ziyu could not fathom it.
But now, it seemed that He Qing'er could even control He Ling'er's body from here, despite the enormous distance.
Although it had only been a twitch of a finger, Yu Ziyu had seen something called hope.
I hope my choice won't be wrong.
Sighing inwardly, Yu Ziyu reaffirmed his resolve.
Not long afterward, He Qing'er slowly came around and shook her head, a trace of weariness on her face.
Just then, a branch gently settled on top of her head, as though stroking her.
Although she could not feel it, He Qing'er could not help letting out a silvery laugh:
"Mas... ter."
"Mm."
Yu Ziyu nodded, then instructed her with a smile:
"Cultivate diligently, and practice your Telepathy ability more while you're at it."
Then Yu Ziyu reminded her:
"If you notice anything unusual over there, remember to tell me."
"Anything unusual?"
The girl, He Qing'er, looked slightly taken aback and asked in puzzlement.
"Yes, anything unusual. For example, if the body you're controlling wakes up, or if any strange people arrive..."
At this point, Yu Ziyu said no more.
She was like a blank sheet of paper, lacking so much understanding.
Still, things should improve as she adjusted over time.
When that happened, Yu Ziyu might even gain a very useful helper.
Even setting everything else aside, her ability to control her younger sister's body from afar and obtain information would be an enormous help to Yu Ziyu.
Humans-he did not dare trust them.
But He Qing'er was someone he could trust.
They were both beings outside the ordinary, and He Qing'er existed because of him. Such a deep bond was enough to earn Yu Ziyu's trust.
As for whether He Ling'er would wake up and report his existence to others...
Yu Ziyu believed that was no longer possible.
After all, with her psychic abilities awakened, it should not be difficult for He Qing'er to take her place.
Of course, there was no rush right now.
Through the images just now, Yu Ziyu had also noticed something unusual about He Ling'er's body.
A strange energy was surging within her.
Unless something unexpected happened, her innate ability should be awakening.
And an awakening like this would take at least ten days to half a month.
That would give Yu Ziyu enough time to nurture He Qing'er.
Time passed quickly, and before he knew it, a good part of the night had gone by.
Magnificent dawn clouds had appeared on the horizon, and a gauzy mist filled the air.
By then, He Qing'er, still somewhat weak, had fallen asleep hugging his root.
With a thought, Yu Ziyu sank the black root deep into the earth as the ground trembled.
Yu Ziyu did not know whether He Qing'er could be exposed to sunlight.
But for safety's sake, it was better to sink the root into the earth.
Moreover, after a night of adjusting to each other, Yu Ziyu had keenly noticed that having He Qing'er's soul resting on his root seemed to benefit him somewhat as well.
He could neither explain nor describe it.
Yet Yu Ziyu felt a cool sensation circulating through his root, easing much of his fatigue along with it.
Yu Ziyu smiled and did not dwell on it.
Compared with these inexplicable, indescribable benefits, He Qing'er was more importantly someone Yu Ziyu could talk to.
It seemed he had not spoken to anyone like this in a long time.
This night had relieved quite a bit of his loneliness.
Still, relief was one thing.
He could not forget the important matters.
Shifting his view, Yu Ziyu turned his gaze toward the nearby branches.
There, one captured creature after another hung tightly bound by his branches.
There was a monkey, its golden fur dazzling in the morning light.
Its bright eyes were wide open, but it neither cried out nor made a fuss.
However, Yu Ziyu believed that if his branches had not been wrapped around it, he would surely have been the one making the biggest commotion right now.
After all, the intelligence flashing through those eyes could not lie.
A very clever monkey.
After making that assessment inwardly, Yu Ziyu shifted his gaze again.
Aside from the monkey, there was a wild ox, a white crane, four wolves, and...
A flat head, white hair, and a silver cloak.
It was none other than the beast that baffled Yu Ziyu the most-a honey badger.
People might not be familiar with honey badgers, but surely everyone had heard its nickname.
"Flathead."
Unconcerned with life or death, it would fight anyone who challenged it.
It was also known as "Africa's top dog."
But wasn't this creature usually found in Africa, western Asia, and southern Asia?
How had it ended up this far inland?
Could it be that, with the Spiritual Energy Revival, these little creatures had begun migrating too...?
Thinking this in some astonishment, Yu Ziyu took a good look at the little creature.
It was seventy centimeters long and looked quite small and compact.
Looking at its face, Yu Ziyu could even see a little goofy cuteness, along with an unmistakable air of foolishness.
With its flat crown and the layer of white fur covering its back, it really did look like an underworld boss who had deliberately dyed his buzz cut white.
No wonder people called it "Flathead."
It truly lived up to the name.
