Background / History
Transmigration and Early Survival
Yu Ziyu lost consciousness after choking on water in his previous life and awakened as a weeping willow in a secluded mountain canyon. He accepted the transformation relatively calmly, regarding survival itself as fortunate. His status panel and Evolution Points gave him a way to strengthen—and eventually control—his otherwise immobile body 1.
He initially grew through sunlight and the unfamiliar energy in the air. Killing a bee revealed that hunting also produced Evolution Points, encouraging him to develop his branches as weapons. Inspired by the fictional Willow God he remembered from his previous life, he hoped eventually to leave his tree body and take human form; this remained an aspiration rather than an acquired power 2 3.
First Companions and First Order
Rather than kill eight peregrine falcon chicks nesting in his crown for points, Yu Ziyu chose to raise them. He subsequently used Life Essence to heal and evolve an injured red fox and strengthen the falcons, establishing the core of his animal following 4 8 10.
A giant Golden Eagle threatened his territory, prompting him to suppress his aura and ambush it with sharpened roots. Killing it supplied the points needed for his First Order evolution. When a beast tide followed, he defended the canyon with his branches, roots, Red Fox, and Peregrine Falcons, then retained several promising animals for possible nurturing 12 13 15 16 17.
The Sisters and Human Infiltration
Yu Ziyu rescued He Qing’er and He Ling’er from the battlefield partly because he could not stomach accidentally absorbing human remains as fertilizer. He then confined them, fearing that either woman could reveal his existence and the value of his Life Essence. After questioning Qing’er about the Spiritual Energy Revival, he upgraded Hallucination rather than immediately killing the sisters 17 19.
Following his later attempt to eliminate them, Qing’er returned as a mutant soul and found refuge in his roots. Yu Ziyu began nurturing her and encouraged her telepathic connection with Ling’er. Qing’er eventually controlled her sister’s body, giving him an intermediary inside human society 21 22 23 40.
Concealing the Canyon
Yu Ziyu expanded his fog to conceal the canyon and turn the surrounding mountains into a hunting ground for his followers. When a Spiritual Energy Monitoring Satellite threatened to expose the area, Qing’er learned that it detected spiritual energy concentrations rather than identifying him directly. He responded by using the fog to suppress his detectable presence 26 36.
He deployed Honey Badger to deter intruders but allowed Yan Gaoyuan’s surviving expedition to withdraw, judging that their report would buy him time. After treating the wounded animals, he learned that the mountains had become a Yellow Warning Zone under priority surveillance 37 39 40 41.
Building a Mutated Beast Empire
Yu Ziyu resolved to build an empire of Mutated Beasts strong enough to make humanity hesitate before attacking him. His strategy was to nurture exceptional individuals—particularly potential herd and pack leaders—rather than personally strengthen every animal. His followers also brought prey back alive so that he could obtain Evolution Points from the kills 44.
Over the following months, he maintained the spreading fog and invested hundreds or thousands of points into his branches. By winter, he stood near the limit of First Order but remained concerned that a conspicuous breakthrough could invite a nuclear strike. He hoped another powerful beast would draw humanity’s attention before he advanced 47 48 49.
Appearance
Yu Ziyu’s willow body has a broad crown, grayish-black cracked bark, and hanging branches resembling a waterfall. Enhanced branches become vivid green and jade-like, sometimes emitting a soft glow 1 3.
- Early First Order size: Approximately 32 meters tall, with a trunk one to two meters in diameter 24.
- Roots: Black, python-like secondary roots surrounding a deeply anchored main root 6.
- Later crown: More than 100 enhanced branches form a green cascade dozens of meters wide, with individual branches reaching approximately 100 meters 47.
- Underground network: By winter, his roots form an enormous web extending about 1,000 meters, while his main root reaches hundreds of meters underground 49.
Personality
Yu Ziyu combines an easygoing, frequently humorous inner voice with a strong instinct for self-preservation. He accepts his rebirth without prolonged despair, indulges in fantasies about future greatness, and takes pride in discovering new uses for his abilities. His desire to regain human form persists despite his growing strength as a tree 1 3 25.
His caution toward humanity comes from his memories as a human and his understanding of modern weapons. He believes peaceful coexistence requires enough strength to deter exploitation, not goodwill alone. Although willing to deceive, intimidate, or kill for security, he initially hesitates to kill people who are only potential threats and feels revulsion at using human bodies as nutrients 9 17 24 44.
He rewards useful followers with healing, shelter, and opportunities to evolve, but his care is pragmatic rather than indiscriminate. He uses punishment to secure obedience, prioritizes talented animals, and considers sacrificing others’ safety if necessary to preserve his own life. His willingness to coexist with humanity remains conditional on humans bearing him no ill will 24 28 41 44.
Abilities & Skills
Evolution Points and Status Panel
Yu Ziyu’s private status panel records his species, lifespan, rank, points, and recognized abilities. Evolution Points allow him to enhance body parts, unlock powers, and initiate realm advancement 1 9 13.
- Passive acquisition: Sunlight and absorbed energy provide points. His daily sunlight yield rises from approximately 0.1 points to 1 point after reaching First Order 1 25.
- Hunting: Kills grant points, with stronger prey generally providing greater rewards; a bee yields 0.1, an Entry-Level 5 wild boar 50, and an Entry-Level 7 Golden Eagle 70 2 13 16.
- Recognition limit: The panel supplies detailed information after he becomes aware of an ability; it does not automatically explain everything he possesses 9.
- Follower-assisted supply: His beasts bring living prey back to him, overcoming some of the hunting limitations imposed by his immobility 44.
Mutated Branches
His branches function as flexible limbs for striking, binding, construction, and delicate manipulation. At Lv2, they combine steel-like hardness with freely controlled bending and growth 1 10 45.
- Whip attacks: Early enhanced branches produce sonic booms; later branches can kill or restrain powerful Entry-Level beasts 1 47.
- Air cannon: Coordinated strikes compress and propel air beyond the branches’ reach, shattering a two-to-three-meter boulder 3 4.
- Paralyzing toxin: Lv2 branches secrete a toxin capable of paralysis or unconsciousness. Honey Badger recovers quickly from a test dose 45.
- Precision work: He weaves nests and cages and extracts shell fragments from wounds 10 24 40.
Mutant Roots
His roots are stronger and tougher than his branches, serving as underground weapons, restraints, and defensive structures 6 21.
- Ambush and strangulation: Concealed roots erupt from soil and rock; sharpened, twisted roots use stored torsion to inflict severe penetrating damage 12 13 16.
- Main-root protection: Eight secondary roots coil around his vulnerable main root 6.
- Resource absorption: Roots draw energy from an underground Spiritual River, accelerating their growth 41.
- Earthquake trump card: He believes he can overturn several kilometers of land or disturb the Spiritual River to unleash a much larger earthquake. He estimates the latter could nearly rival a peak Second Order attack, but would leave him close to death 49.
Super Regeneration
This innate talent rapidly restores relatively fragile parts such as branches by consuming internal energy 15.
- Combat growth: He redirects regeneration into immediate branch extension, increasing his attack range 15.
- Ongoing development: Abundant vitality accelerates bodily growth and helps his roots spread 24 44.
- Trade-off: Using the talent to extend branches temporarily weakens his regenerative ability 15.
Life Essence
Life Essence is a spiritual fluid produced within his body that heals injuries and accelerates evolution 9.
- Nurturing: It strengthens the Red Fox, Peregrine Falcons, Wind Wolves, and Qing’er 8 10 30 33.
- Treatment: He adds it to a newly created lake to help wounded Honey Badger and Wind Wolves recover 41.
- Environmental benefit: Animals drinking from the resulting Spirit Lake also develop, while fallen leaves benefit the Golden Monkey 44.
- Limits: Extraction can wither and weaken a branch; excessive expenditure depletes his reserves. Repeated doses do not guarantee major breakthroughs 8 9 33.
Dense Fog Shroud and Aura Concealment
His leaves release Spiritual Energy-driven fog that conceals his body, obstructs vision, and carries some of his perception 21 26.
- Lv2 coverage: The ability can cover a radius of dozens to roughly 100 kilometers and reduce visibility to under four or five meters 26.
- Environmental resistance: Ordinary wind has difficulty dispersing the enhanced fog 26.
- Remote awareness: He can sense major disturbances within the mist, though his directional control is not precise 26.
- Aura suppression: Breath control first helps lure the Golden Eagle; later, mobilizing the fog greatly reduces the spiritual pressure surrounding the canyon 12 36.
Hallucination
Hallucination influences minds and distorts perception. At Lv2, it affects both animals and humans but requires substantial energy and time 19.
- Communication: He uses the mist’s mental influence to convey thoughts clearly to Qing’er 19.
- Commands: He combines Hallucination with intimidation and Life Essence to order Honey Badger to repel intruders 37.
- Fog synergy: The spreading fog supports the weaving of false perceptions across his territory 45.
Soul Nurturing
His Mutant Roots provide a medium in which souls can remain in the world 21.
- Spiritual shelter: Qing’er rests against his roots instead of remaining exposed to conditions that hasten her dissipation 21 23.
- Long-term support: He combines root-based nurturing with Life Essence to strengthen her soul 33 47.
Perception and Defense
- All-around vision: His viewpoint is centered on his branch tips, granting 360-degree sight 2.
- First Order eyesight: His vision extends approximately two kilometers, with enough detail to distinguish ants hundreds of meters away 25.
- Toughened body: His bark becomes at least comparable to ordinary steel, with roots tougher still. He judges himself capable of withstanding artillery shells, though this is an assessment rather than a demonstrated bombardment feat 24.
Weaknesses
- Immobility: He remains rooted to the ground and cannot flee threats 45 49.
- Vulnerable main root: Attempting to pull it free causes nearly unbearable pain; it is the foundation of his survival 6.
- Physical attack limitations: His branches pass through Qing’er’s soul. At that time, his offensive methods are physical, while Hallucination primarily confuses perception 21.
- Exposure risk: His valuable Life Essence and inability to relocate make discovery by technologically advanced humans especially dangerous 17 36.
Relationships
- He Qing’er / Xiao Qing — Spirit dependent, confidante, and intermediary among humans. He shelters and strengthens her soul while directing her use of Ling’er’s body; her feelings toward him develop into a mixture of respect, admiration, and longing 21 33 40 47 49.
- He Ling’er — Initially a captive and security concern; her body later becomes Qing’er’s means of entering human institutions. Her elemental awakening makes that access particularly valuable to Yu Ziyu 17 23 40.
- Red Fox / Nine-Tails — Early companion healed and evolved with his essence. She defends him during the beast tide and later helps supply living prey 8 15 44.
- Eight Peregrine Falcons — Nestlings he chooses to raise rather than kill for points. He builds their nest, strengthens them with Life Essence, and receives their protection in battle 4 10 15.
- Wind Wolves — Former captives that submit after receiving his essence. They hunt for him and rescue the wounded Honey Badger 30 40 44.
- Honey Badger — Stubborn captive and eventual mountain defender. Yu Ziyu admires its persistence, uses it to deter intruders, treats its injuries, and tests his toxin on it 26 37 40 41 45.
- Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey — Obedient follower selected for focused nurturing. Consuming Yu Ziyu’s fallen leaves contributes to its growth and awakening of Extreme Absorption 24 44.
- Mutant Bison / Bull Demon — Promising follower valued for possessing both an innate talent and a special ability. Yu Ziyu plans to develop strong individuals capable of leading their own herds 24 44.
- Yan Gaoyuan — Human expedition leader whose investigation threatens the secrecy of the mountains. Yu Ziyu deliberately permits his withdrawal to gain time for further development 37 39 41.
