Harry still harbored some disbelief. He could not understand how such a great hero could have a rat as his Animagus form.
And why had all his father's friends been so bizarre? A werewolf, a rat...
Ron still refused to believe it.
"That still doesn't make sense. He's a hero who caught Black. Why would he turn into a rat and stay at my house for over a decade? That doesn't add up.
"And since you and George and the others all suspect he's Peter, why didn't you just ask Scabbers instead of trying to find some spell to turn him back into a human?"
Hermione sighed.
"I actually tried in private, but the professor's medicine was too strong. Scabbers kept sleeping, and nothing would wake him."
Harry spread his hands helplessly.
"There's no point saying anything now. We can only wait and see whether those two can turn Scabbers back into a human. If they can't, that means all our guesses were wrong."
Hermione nodded as well.
"All we can confirm now is that Black might be a werewolf. The Ministry of Magic seems to have been looking for werewolves everywhere lately, which shows that this part of our speculation was right."
Ron suddenly asked with some concern:
"What if Scabbers isn't Peter? Could George and the others kill him while trying to turn him back into a human?"
Hermione said bluntly:
"Why didn't you think of that when you made the trade with them?
"Oh, right, I forgot to tell you. If Scabbers really is Peter, they'll get the biggest credit in the Detective Club's Merit Book. When it's time to divide the money, they'll get the biggest share too. Hmph!"
Ron said resentfully:
"That's because neither of you would tell me anything."
Harry hurriedly changed the subject.
