Bang!
The office door burst open.
A cold draft swept in from the dungeons, carrying the smell of potions and damp.
Severus Snape stormed in like an angry, greasy old bat.
He stood planted in the doorway, fire burning in his obsidian eyes as he glared at Sirius, who was lounging on the sofa.
"Director Black."
His voice was cold and cloying, like a venomous snake flicking its tongue.
"I wasn't aware that Hogwarts had abolished the Academic Affairs Office. So much so that our director of academic affairs spends every morning idling in the Defense Against Dark Magic Office."
Douglas set down his teacup and put on an amiable smile, as though he hadn't noticed Snape's foul expression, which could have knocked a troll dead.
"Good morning, Professor. Would you like some toast? Dobby just made it. It's still warm."
Snape's gaze scraped across Douglas's face before pinning itself on Sirius again.
He twisted his lips into a vicious smile.
"Oh, I rather think that if the Academic Affairs Office hasn't been abolished..."
His voice trembled.
"Then we might as well abolish it now!"
"After all,"
He stepped forward, forcing each word through his teeth.
"It cannot even stop a petty thief from sneaking into my office in the dead of night and stealing things from my private storage cabinet!"
Snape swept his sleeves, his black robes tracing an angry arc.
He walked to the doorway and stopped without looking back. His voice was bitterly cold:
"Black, if my belongings aren't recovered... I will personally apply to the Ministry of Magic to search every last corner of Hogwarts, starting with those students who have a history of wandering around at night."
Only after that did he truly disappear through the doorway.
Three seconds later, Sirius turned to Douglas.
His
