"All right, all right, we found the mastermind. Everyone, disperse."
Liu Yan dispersed the crowd. The dead survivor would no longer spread the curse.
Seeing her lead her subordinates away with the mastermind, the survivors all breathed a sigh of relief, though their discussions of the supernatural never died down.
As Wang Feng passed Lin Qi's vehicle with his men, Lin Qi called out to him. "Wang Feng, doesn't this look like a frame-up to you?"
Wang Feng stopped at his words. Only after checking that no one nearby was paying attention did he speak quietly beside the window. "Liu Yan knows it's fake. He's only doing this to reassure the survivors. If they start rioting, it'll be a real problem. The mastermind is already being investigated in secret."
"Got it." Lin Qi nodded. It seemed the Transcendent Squad had spotted the clues too, and had thought further ahead than he had.
Lin Qi considered it. "Wang Feng, could you spare someone to drive for me?"
"No problem."
Wang Feng looked at Xiao Wu behind him. "You know Lin well. You drive for him."
"No problem."
Xiao Wu agreed almost without hesitation.
Lin Qi tidied up the passenger seat a little and gave Xiao Wu the driver's seat.
He had not slept for twenty-four hours, from the early hours of yesterday until today. Unlike the other vehicles, he had no one to take turns driving with him. Even a slight lack of rest could easily cause problems.
"Lin, get some rest. I slept during the first half of the night." Xiao Wu sat in the driver's seat and began familiarizing himself with the SUV.
"All right. Sorry for the trouble."
Lin Qi took out a pack of cigarettes and handed it to Xiao Wu.
Xiao Wu hurriedly refused. "It's nothing, really. You don't need to..."
"Just take it when I tell you to." Lin Qi's tone was stern.
"All right, then." With Lin Qi pressing them into his hands, Xiao Wu could only accept the cigarettes.
After getting to know Lin Qi over the past few days, he had more or less figured out his personality. Refusing any further would be impolite.
With everything arranged, Lin Qi leaned back in the passenger seat. Drowsiness washed over him, and he promptly fell asleep.
He slept lightly. The slightest unusual occurrence would wake him immediately.
Lin Qi slept comfortably. By the time he woke, the convoy was moving slowly.
Unlike the bright sunshine of the previous days, the sky today was overcast, casting a pall over people's moods.
He had only woken once during his sleep, when the convoy set off again. After that, he had slept very comfortably.
"Did anything happen while I was asleep?"
Lin Qi looked at Xiao Wu, who kept yawning.
"Nothing happened. Everything's normal." Xiao Wu yawned again, exhaustion plain in his eyes.
"All right, get some rest. I'll drive." Lin Qi switched places with Xiao Wu.
He did not send Xiao Wu back. He did not know whether the convoy would stop to rest tonight. If it did not, he would still need Xiao Wu to take over.
"Okay." Xiao Wu understood what Lin Qi meant too. He sat in the passenger seat, folded his arms, and began to rest.
Lin Qi checked the time. He had slept until ten in the morning. This was the first time he had gotten up so late since the apocalypse began.
A thought surfaced in his mind. Actually, sometimes having a teammate isn't so bad...
He soon shook the thought away and looked ahead.
There were no longer any survivors on foot behind the convoy. Even a god of war could not have endured traveling nonstop.
He was a little curious. No matter how many kindhearted people there were in the convoy, they could not possibly have taken in every survivor on foot. Had they been left behind by the convoy traveling through the night?
The convoy was not moving very fast, mainly because obstacles kept appearing on the road.
Whenever an obstacle appeared, survivors had to be sent ahead to clear it, slowing the convoy down.
"You're awake, Lin?"
Wang Feng saw in his rearview mirror that Lin Qi was awake and greeted him over the radio.
"Yeah, I'm awake." Lin Qi looked toward the vehicle ahead as well. "Where did all the survivors on foot go?"
"Oh, you mean them?"
Wang Feng said with a smile, "The administrator gave the word. We'll probably be traveling for a long time this time. Anyone who can take in a survivor gets a free steamed bun with every meal."
"Got it." Lin Qi had not expected the Transcendent Squad to care so much about whether the survivors lived or died.
As Lin Qi replied, a few droplets began appearing on the windshield.
He looked up at the sky. A fine drizzle began drifting through the air, adding a little moisture to the dryness.
Lin Qi hurriedly pulled over to the roadside. The supernatural entity in Liu Family Village had slashed open his roof, and he still had not repaired it.
The repair process was simple and crude. Abandoned vehicles were everywhere along the road. He simply removed a pane of glass and made a few adjustments, enough to keep the rain out of the cabin for now.
The roof was repaired very quickly.
He had only just climbed into the driver's seat when the drizzle turned into a torrential downpour in an instant!
The change was instantaneous, with absolutely no transition!
The curtain of rain blocked his view. Even with the windshield wipers working furiously, he could not make out the convoy's outline.
"Attention! Attention! Stop moving for now!"
"Attention! Attention! Stop moving for now!"
Liu Yan's voice rang out through the loudspeaker, and the convoy ground to a halt in the rain.
The survivors sheltered inside their vehicles, but they were not particularly upset. Some even had faces filled with excitement.
They found all sorts of containers and began collecting rainwater.
This was the first heavy rain since the apocalypse began. No one knew whether the rainwater was safe to drink, but they could use it to wash away the grime that had accumulated on their bodies over seven days without washing.
Liu Yan had the same idea. She too led her subordinates in collecting rainwater with various containers.
Green Radish sat in the passenger seat, holding a clear plastic mineral water bottle filled with rainwater she had just collected.
"I wonder if the rainwater is safe to drink..."
Green Radish could see no difference between the rainwater and normal water with the naked eye.
While Green Radish studied the rainwater, the young woman driving looked sickly. She seemed to have already guessed what Green Radish would do next.
Sure enough, after observing it for only a moment, Green Radish thrust the rainwater toward the young woman. "Drink it and see. Don't worry. As long as it doesn't kill you, I can save you."
"Sigh."
The young woman sighed, grabbed the water bottle with the resolve of someone facing death, and poured it into her mouth. Clearly, this was not her first time being Green Radish's guinea pig...
Lin Qi collected some rainwater too.
Until someone else drank the rainwater first, he naturally would not be reckless enough to try it.
He had not bathed in a long time either. Although he was not in the same state as the survivors on foot, he still felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Going out into the rain rashly to bathe could give him a cold, and a cold could be fatal in the apocalypse too. He could only wait until the rain stopped and the sky cleared before washing away the dirt on his body.
Lin Qi glanced at the passenger seat. The downpour had not affected Xiao Wu in the slightest.
Even with the rain rattling against the vehicle, Xiao Wu slept like a log...
Feeling a little bored, Lin Qi simply turned on the radio to see whether he could pick up any new signals.
But unexpectedly, just then...
As thunder crashed outside the window, a bold, unrestrained shout rang out through the curtain of rain.
The rolling thunder seemed to have become his background music.
"Others laugh at me for being too mad!!!"
"I laugh at them for failing to see through it all!!!"
"What joy! What joy!!!"
Lin Qi stared speechlessly at the young man dancing wildly in the rain outside the window. Even with his composure, he could not help commenting, "What a Jiahao..."
