A sea of corpses!

"Lin Qi! Lin Qi, they're coming!!!"

Xiao Wu pointed at the corpses drifting with the current on either side of the road.

After the wave of corpses passed, they seemed to have finally been activated!

The corpses on both sides of the road lay flat on the water. Though they made no movements at all, each drifted at tremendous speed toward the four speeding vehicles, closing in around them!

Lin Qi had no time for Xiao Wu. Of course he could see the endless corpses converging on them!

"Fuck, am I going to die here today?"

Lin Qi cursed under his breath, his foot pressing the accelerator as far down as it would go.

He was quite literally racing death now. If anything at all went wrong with the vehicle, his meager abilities would definitely leave him dead here!

"Screeech!!!"

A piercing screech of friction rang through the rainy night.

Lin Qi spared a glance at the rearview mirror. Once again, the felons had thrown something out of their vehicle. Another unlucky driver's vehicle went out of control thanks to their dirty tricks, skidding amid piercing screams and careening straight into the roadside.

Under normal circumstances, there might still have been a chance to save them. Unfortunately, amid the endless corpses, the survivors inside did not even have time to get out before countless corpses clung to them like maggots to bone.

They were like creatures without spines, sliding along with their backs against the ground, gliding onto the survivors' overturned vehicle, then slipping inside with their backs pressed against it!

"Ah! Help!!!"

"No, please, no..."

Agonized screams tore through the curtain of rain.

The screams were horrific, but they ended quickly.

Once the screaming stopped.

Lin Qi was just about to look away.

What happened next brought a glimmer of light into his heart, which had been filled with darkness!

Inside the overturned vehicle, there was actually a survivor still alive!

And the densely packed anomalies around her seemed unable to see her! They ignored her completely!

All because the woman had made a perfectly ordinary movement!

The woman happened to be on the lower side of the overturned vehicle. To escape, she had to lie on the ground and back her way out!

And precisely because of that movement, the tide of corpses let her go!

"Rules! It's a rule-based anomaly!"

A light flashed in Lin Qi's eyes. It was a rule-based anomaly, and he had seen its rule. That meant their chances of survival were greater!

"Wang Feng! Stop!"

Lin Qi gritted his teeth and picked up the radio, ready to take a gamble.

There were too many corpses on either side, so many it was hopeless, so many that they could never escape the encirclement stretching beyond sight!

"Okay!"

Wang Feng did not know why Lin Qi wanted him to stop, but he still trusted him and pulled over, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop.

Lin Qi pulled over as well.

Seeing the tide of corpses drawing closer around them, he did not hesitate. "Xiao Wu, get out!"

"Get out?"

Xiao Wu's face was full of terror. But Lin Qi had no time to waste talking to him. The corpses were barely a few meters away, and he could even smell their rotten stench through the window!

Bang.

Lin Qi shoved the door open.

Wang Feng and the others had parked alongside his vehicle.

Seeing Lin Qi get out, they hurried over at a jog.

They held an assortment of weapons, and Wang Feng's eyes held the resolve to face death. "Lin Qi, are we fighting them!"

"Fuck it! If we die, we die. If we live, we'll live forever!"

Their other companions looked equally defiant. Clearly, they thought they were certain to die today, and had even grown somewhat indifferent to life and death.

"Fight my ass! What are you going to fight them with!"

Under their puzzled gazes, Lin Qi dropped flat onto his back. "Quick, do what I do!"

"Oh, oh, okay, okay!"

Wang Feng reacted first and immediately lay down too. "What are you all standing around for! Lie down!"

The others had no idea what was going on. Seeing how quickly the two had lain down, they had no time to think about why and hurriedly dropped to the ground.

The pounding rain poured over Lin Qi from head to toe. Lying on the ground, he was almost instantly soaked through!

His body was as cold as his heart. He did not even dare make an unnecessary movement.

Lying rigidly on the ground, he looked just like the corpses around him.

"Screech!"

The sounds of hard braking rang out beside his ears.

Scarface saw what Lin Qi and the others were doing. He did not know why Lin Qi was doing it, but seeing him like that, he lay down without the slightest hesitation.

The survivors in the last two vehicles had chosen to follow Lin Qi onto the branching road, so there were clearly some clever people among them too.

Seeing a row of people lying ahead in the downpour, the survivors in one vehicle hurriedly braked where they were and lay down too.

Only the last sedan remained.

There was only the driver in that last car. Aside from him, there were no other survivors inside.

Lying directly between the pickup and Wang Feng's vehicle, Lin Qi could clearly see the look in the last sedan driver's eyes.

It was anger, despair, and the loss of any meaning in staying alive.

"Vroom, vroom, vroom!"

The engine's piercing roar kept rising as he accelerated.

Scarface and his two companions had arrived late and could only lie in the middle of the road. The last car was clearly heading straight for Scarface!

"A life for a life! You fucking bastard!!! Pay for their lives with yours!!!"

The driver roared and screamed, his eyes utterly unafraid of death. He had only one goal: run Scarface over! Turn Scarface into a corpse for good!

"Fuck!"

Scarface's expression changed drastically when he saw the driver acting like a madman.

He wanted to get up and flee, but the corpses beside him were already less than a meter away.

If he ran, he would die.

If he stayed, he would die too.

"Motherfucker, even if I die, I'm taking you with me!"

Scarface radiated murderous fury, but just as he was about to get up and fight for his life.

"Screeech!!!"

The piercing sound of skidding rang out again.

This time, Scarface had not tampered with anything. Corpses had slipped beneath the survivor's car, piling up densely underneath it until the speeding vehicle could no longer move forward...

Feeling the car slip beyond his control and watching swollen, pale backs press against the windows, the driver finally had his heart swallowed by despair.

Crash...

The glass shattered inexplicably, and the first corpse slipped inside.

"Ah, I can't avenge you..."

All the driver's strength seemed to drain away at once. His hands fell limply from the steering wheel, and his body rested against the seat. There was little fear in his eyes; in its place was a trace of release...

The tide of corpses quickly submerged the vehicle.

There were no screams, no wails. Everything seemed so peaceful.

Lin Qi watched the car being swallowed by corpses from beginning to end, and a wave of emotion stirred in his heart.

It really was true. Good people die young, while scum live forever.

The thought passed in a flash.

The pungent stench of rot around him filled his sense of taste.

He could even feel an inexplicable slipperiness in the rainwater, some unknown slime seeping from the corpses.

Disgusting and sticky.

Close. Closer and closer...

Lin Qi instinctively held even his breath...
