Scarface stared at the triangular spikes crushed out of shape on the ground, confusion on his face. "What's going on? Why didn't his SUV's tires burst?"
Scarface had been prepared from the start for Lin Qi to force his way through in his vehicle. Since they had decided to move against Lin Qi, there was no way they would let him escape.
He watched the SUV plunge into the weeds, his gaze vicious. "There's no way it had no effect on him. Get in and chase him! I won't sleep until he's dead!"
Scarface led his men darting into the weeds beside the road.
The chaos in the convoy neared its peak.
The ordinary survivors hid inside their vehicles, trembling. No one dared show their face, afraid of getting swept up in Wang Hu's uprising.
The survivors without vehicles likewise crouched in corners with their hands over their heads, as quiet as a flock of quails.
Green Radish watched the hundred-odd men in their prime charging over with murderous intent, his expression unchanged.
From the weeds around the Transcendent Squad, beams of dazzling light illuminated the squad. At some point, their entire convoy had been surrounded.
All of the Transcendent Squad's members followed behind the captain, a little over twenty people in total.
Twenty against a hundred, with many of those twenty being technical workers. Only a handful had any real fighting ability.
The battle seemed to be tipping entirely in Wang Hu's favor, yet not a trace of worry showed on the captain's face.
"Heh, giving up?"
Wang Hu emerged from behind the crowd with a standard-issue pistol in hand. He looked Green Radish up and down, undisguised lust burning in his eyes.
Green Radish was beautiful, and with that air about her, she was at least a nine out of ten. In Wang Hu's eyes, she was hardly any different from a celebrity.
How could the sight of Green Radish not quicken his breathing?
"Giving up?" The captain's voice was mocking. "You don't actually think you can do anything to me with this bunch of misfits, do you?"
"Haha, stop putting on an act. Even Niu Wudi has to go looking for Ghost Cash at night. Surely I don't need to explain how strong you are?"
Wang Hu aimed his gun at the captain. "Don't worry, I won't kill you. After all, what's a convoy without its captain? Surrender quietly, and you might get to live comfortably."
"Sigh."
Seeing how confident Wang Hu was, the captain finally let out a deep breath.
"Heh, scared?"
Just as Wang Hu thought the captain was about to submit, the captain abruptly changed tack. "You think killing Jiahao, who had only just become an Extraordinary, means you really understand Extraordinaries?"
The captain seemed to be talking to himself, yet also seemed to be explaining to Wang Hu. "Extraordinaries are beings ordinary people can never understand."
"What do you mean?"
Wang Hu immediately sensed something amiss, his voice turning cold. "Get him! Take this guy down first!"
"Kill!"
"Charge!"
At Wang Hu's command, the hundred-odd survivors began charging at the captain.
Perhaps they had been a little afraid at first, but ever since Wang Hu killed the Extraordinary Jiahao, their last shred of fear had vanished completely.
An Extraordinary?
So what if he was an Extraordinary? Hadn't one shot still dropped him?
"C-Captain, what do we do..."
The faces of the technical workers behind the captain changed drastically. They had never seen the captain fight. In their minds, the captain's ability was to lead the way.
The hundred-odd survivors around them, butcher knives in hand, were like ravenous wolves gone wild. How could they not be afraid?
"Are you doing it, or am I?"
The captain ignored the survivors and instead turned his gaze to Green Radish.
Green Radish spread her hands. "I don't have any Ghost Cash."
At Green Radish's response, the captain merely rubbed the ring on his right hand lightly. "You people. Wouldn't it have been better to just stay in the convoy, eat your fill, and wait to die? You just had to go looking for trouble..."
The captain's voice was flat, without a trace of emotion. "So you can at least understand why you're dying, besides the Extraordinary Sequence, there's another kind of extraordinary creation in this world: wondrous items."
"As luck would have it, I happen to have one..."
Hearing the captain's increasingly flat voice, Wang Hu finally realized something was wrong. He jerked his pistol up. "Fuck, you don't know what's good for you. If you want to die, then die!"
Wang Hu's raised finger hooked around the trigger.
But in the very next instant, the captain merely murmured a few syllables. "Wondrous item, mental shock!"
Boom!
At the very instant the captain softly uttered the words "wondrous item,"
a ripple invisible to the naked eye spread outward from him in every direction at the speed of light.
The survivors who had still been charging seemed to suffer some tremendous blow in an instant.
Their pupils began to dilate, their life rapidly fading. Even as they died, their expressions remained completely unchanged.
Wang Hu's corpse, too, remained forever frozen with his finger curled around the trigger. That bullet would never again be fired from his hand!
Thud, thud, thud.
Bodies fell to the ground one after another.
As though he had merely cleared away a swarm of ants, the captain strolled over to Wang Hu and picked up the standard-issue pistol. "Tsk, tsk. I searched forever without finding one of these, and you lot found one instead..."
It was the first time the Transcendent Squad's survivors had seen the captain fight. Staring at the bodies strewn across the ground, they still had not recovered.
Only Green Radish seemed unsurprised, approaching the captain with a smile. "Hehe, you've suffered internal injuries, haven't you? Don't think I don't know how steep the cost of using a wondrous item is."
The captain: ...
The captain rolled his eyes. "Even if I died, even if Wang Hu shot me dead, I still wouldn't let you treat me."
"Tch." Green Radish rolled her eyes. "That's what I get for trying to help."
"Heh, only that big idiot Niu Wudi believes your bullshit." Without even looking at Green Radish, the captain waved his arm. "Break it up, break it up. I'm a little tired. I'm going to get some sleep."
Lin Qi raced through the weeds with Scarface's two vehicles in tow. Only after putting some distance between himself and the convoy did he gradually slow down.
He did not know what the convoy was going through at that moment, but he knew for certain that its Extraordinaries could not help him now either.
Two vehicles pursued Lin Qi, sticking to him like glue. No matter how he drifted, he could not shake them off.
Lin Qi had anticipated this. He had been thinking all along about how to wipe out Scarface and his men for good.
His gaze settled on the drivers of the two vehicles close behind him.
A cold smile curled his lips, and the SUV gradually slowed.
Lin Qi watched the two pursuing vehicles behind him. Seizing an opportunity, he targeted the pickup driver. "Brother, do me a favor!"
As his words fell, the driver fell into a daze. The speeding vehicle instantly went out of control and veered off course.
Crash!
The vehicle slammed into its companions' vehicle alongside it.
In an instant, vehicles and men went tumbling!
Taking advantage of the vehicles overturning, Lin Qi drove his SUV swiftly closer, murderous intent stirring in his eyes. He had been ready for this.
He watched the dozen or so people struggling to clamber out of the two vehicles, lightning faintly flickering in his eyes. "Scarface, oh, Scarface. Have you ever heard that hell has no gate?"
"Don't be afraid! His ability has no combat power!"
A vicious light flickered in Scarface's eyes. Gritting his teeth, he pushed a companion ahead of him as he climbed out. Clearly, he wanted his companion to take the first hit, then deliver a fatal blow during the gap in Lin Qi's ability!
He thought he understood Lin Qi's ability very well.
Until...
Until Lin Qi placed a hand on the vehicle door, and crackling lightning began flashing over his hand!
