Background / History

Pursuing Su Chen

Gao Yue fired Su Chen while the company owed him three months of wages. When he refused to return its refrigerated truck, she reported him to the police. Officers Huang Wei and Zhang Xiaomeng treated the incident as a wage dispute and accompanied her in tracking him through Changcheng 1 3.

At Su Chen’s rental, Gao Yue met his former landlady, Fan Hui, who was seeking the appliances he had taken over an unreturned deposit. Despite initially arguing, the women bonded over their grievances against him. Fan Hui joined Gao Yue in her car as the pursuit continued toward the national highway 3.

The apocalypse overtook them during the chase. Gao Yue saw monsters in the red fog and began wondering whether Su Chen’s early departure had been an attempt to escape the disaster. Nevertheless, she continued pursuing the truck, following him into Banyan Tree Village and returning with Huang Wei after confirming where he had stopped 4 5 6.

Banyan Tree Village

At the Yang family home, Gao Yue insisted on recovering the refrigerated truck, but fell silent when Su Chen asked whether she really intended to return to Changcheng. When a Walking Corpse approached, she and Fan Hui fled inside and bolted the door, leaving the others outside 7.

Su Xi tried to reopen the door for her brother. Fan Hui pushed her from her wheelchair, while Gao Yue restrained Yang Defa’s mother as she attempted to intervene. Su Chen’s arrival ended the confrontation, and the women retreated to Gao Yue’s car 9 10.

Gao Yue remained overnight because she feared driving alone and hoped to rely on Huang Wei. The next morning, she was too embarrassed to join the villagers for breakfast. When Su Chen’s group departed, she accepted Fan Hui’s suggestion to take the opposite route toward the village entrance 9 10 11.

The entrance had become a lethal grove: banyan roots trapped vehicles and transformed people into Tree People. Gao Yue turned around, shook a Tree Person off her car by braking, and escaped after Su Chen’s convoy. Along the way, she saw Old Yang fighting the creatures with an axe and burning oil 12.

Following the Convoy

While crossing the fog, Gao Yue drove through an apparent Su Chen standing in the road. Feeling no impact, she realized the figure was false; a white-clad female Weird Entity then appeared in her back seat and vanished when sunlight broke through the mist. Another Tree Person attacked her car shortly afterward, forcing her to race after the convoy 13.

At a gas station, Su Chen assigned Lord Eight and a skinny woman to guard Gao Yue’s car, testing his suspicion that they were Tree People. Gao Yue lightly pressed the accelerator to intimidate them, but Fan Hui forced her foot down, making the car strike both figures. They transformed and attacked the vehicle before Huang Wei, Yang Defa, and Su Chen defeated them 15.

After these encounters, Gao Yue became more willing to follow Su Chen’s judgment. She abandoned plans to change vehicles rather than risk missing the convoy’s departure. Later, despite her hunger and Fan Hui’s urging, she refused to enter an unfamiliar town because none of the Sequence users had stopped. The “town” proved to be an illusion created by flesh-eating mushrooms 16 17.

Snowfield Hardship

Gao Yue and Fan Hui gathered food and drink in Xintang Town but little warm clothing. When blue snow began falling, they were left shivering in their damaged car 23.

As independent households, they received none of the Giant Bear meat distributed to the communal group. Gao Yue survived on snacks and melted frozen water against her body. She considered seeking Su Chen’s forgiveness if Fan Hui left, but did not actually drive her companion away because she still wanted company 26.

During the blizzard, the women insisted on sheltering in Huang Wei’s police car. He agreed, despite Zhang Xiaomeng’s objections about the cramped sleeping space 28.

Hot Spring Village

At the hotel in Hot Spring Village, Gao Yue chased Xu Zihao after he entered the women’s baths and grabbed people. His grandmother’s apology initially made her hesitate to pursue the matter 33.

Later, Gao Yue objected to Su Chen’s interrogation of the grandmother, believing he was bullying her after an apparent food test revealed no poisoning. When the woman lunged at Su Chen, he moved beside Gao Yue for cover; Gao Yue’s cheek was scratched during the attack. She continued blaming him for provoking the confrontation 34.

Gao Yue subsequently refused to let Fan Hui bring Xu Zihao into her car, threatening to exclude her as well if she adopted him. Unknown to Gao Yue, Fan Hui secretly freed the boy and hid him in the trunk while Gao Yue worked on replacing the missing windshield 37.

Capture by the Predator Convoy

During a pursuit through heavy rain, Gao Yue’s car stalled as water poured through its defective windshield. Su Chen ordered the Hope Convoy to continue rather than risk stopping under pursuit and gunfire, leaving Gao Yue and Fan Hui behind 40.

Butcher’s Predator Convoy found them. After Fan Hui revealed Xu Zihao’s presence, Butcher killed her, ordered Gao Yue to open the trunk, and took the boy as his son. Gao Yue was then imprisoned in an iron cage 40 41.

Stripped of her clothes and shivering among the other female captives, Gao Yue began regretting her treatment of Su Chen. She recognized that life in his convoy had at least offered freedom and dignity. When the Predator Convoy struck his roadside trap, she hoped he was responsible 42.

Her last documented scene places her in the women’s cage as Xu Zihao attacks its occupants to absorb their vitality. Gao Yue trembles in a corner, fearing that she will become his food and blaming Fan Hui for secretly saving him 45.

Personality

Gao Yue initially prioritizes recovering company property even as the surrounding crisis escalates. She defends the company’s unpaid wages by saying she never claimed she would not pay Su Chen, and continues demanding police intervention after witnessing the red fog and monsters 3 4 6.

Her self-preservation can come at others’ expense. She helps barricade the Yang home against people still outside and later tries to reach the front of the convoy so a pursuing Tree Person will attack someone else. Nevertheless, repeated close calls teach her caution: she eventually follows the Sequence users’ decisions rather than Fan Hui’s demands 7 13 16.

Gao Yue recognizes Fan Hui’s recklessness but remains attached to her for companionship. Her regret develops gradually—from privately considering reconciliation with Su Chen to reflecting on her own conduct after becoming a prisoner 26 42.

Equipment / Items

• Personal car — Gao Yue’s transport throughout her pursuit and time with the Hope Convoy. Tree People leave it with shattered windows and dents across the hood and doors 12 13 15.
• Improvised windshield — A transparent plastic sheet found at the Hot Spring Village hotel. Its inadequate protection allows rain into the vehicle before it stalls 37 40.
• Scavenged supplies — Food and drinks gathered in Xintang Town, but insufficient winter clothing. The car’s broken windows leave these supplies inadequate against the snowfield’s cold 23 26.

Relationships

• Su Chen — Former subordinate turned convoy leader. Their wage-and-truck dispute becomes open hostility; Gao Yue eventually depends on his survival decisions and regrets having alienated him 1 3 16 42.
• Fan Hui — Traveling companion and uneasy ally. Gao Yue repeatedly objects to her interference but keeps her company; she later blames Fan Hui for concealing Xu Zihao in her car 4 26 37 45.
• Huang Wei — Police officer whom she first relies on to recover the truck, then for protection and shelter during the apocalypse 3 10 15 28.
• Su Xi — Su Chen’s younger sister. Gao Yue restrains a would-be helper while Fan Hui assaults her, worsening the conflict with Su Chen 9.
