Bureau of Extraordinary Events
Bell could tell. This Mr. Dong Shuang, although he was trying his best to appear calm and composed, was actually terrified.
Bell couldn't really understand Dong Shuang's reaction. After all, he was just an ordinary person once. If he were suddenly brought among a group of superpowered individuals, he would probably be very cautious too.
"Hello, may I bother you for a moment?"
Bell pushed open the nearest door and went inside.
"Hello, how can I help you?"
Behind a counter not far from the entrance sat a young woman. Hearing the sound, the woman looked up and gazed at Bell at the doorway.
"Here's the thing, we want to go to the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, but we don't know how to get there."
The woman glanced at Bell and the people behind him.
"You're the family from Britain that's been all the rage these past few days, the ones who know how to eat... cough cough!"
"..."
Bell had a feeling that the other person had almost said something very rude.
"If there haven't been any other tourists from the Britain recently, then you must be referring to us."
Upon hearing this, the woman cautiously observed the Bell family for a while before letting out a sigh of relief, standing up, and walking up to Bell.
"Little brother, your Mandarin is really good. Let me take you to the International Exchange and Cooperation Department. Oh, by the way, my name is Ma Lan."
Ma Lan said.
After the Bell family expressed their gratitude, Ma Lan stepped forward to lead the way.
Interestingly, after Ma Lan joined the group, Dong Shuang ran to the very back of the group, looking as if she was afraid to get close to Ma Lan.
So why isn't he afraid of the Bell family?
"Miss Ma Lan, is it always this quiet here? Does no one come here on business?"
Bell looked around and raised a question that had been lingering in his mind ever since he came in.
"Just call me Sister Lan. You little rascal, you're so precocious, acting like a young lady."
Upon hearing Bell's address to her, Ma Lan couldn't help but cover her mouth and laugh.
"There are usually very few people here, and our work is quite relaxed."
Ma Lan explained.
"After all, we're all Cultivator. When we encounter problems, we usually solve them ourselves with magic. And if we encounter problems that we can't solve, even if we come here, we basically still can't solve them. So unless some major case occurs, it's usually very quiet here."
"What if a Cultivator breaks the law?"
"The Alliance imposes few restrictions on Cultivator, but the punishments are very strict, so few people break the law. As for minor offenses, they are generally handled by the ' Bureau of Extraordinary Events '."
Whether it was just his imagination or not, Bell felt that the other person seemed a little unhappy when talking about the Bureau of Extraordinary Events.
"The Bureau of Extraordinary Events?"
"Yes, didn't you see it when you came? It's right next door."
Ma Lan said.
Bell suddenly realized that the magical fluctuations he had sensed earlier must have been emanating from the protective array of the Bureau of Extraordinary Events.
"Sister Lan, could you tell me about this Bureau of Extraordinary Events?"
Bell was curious as to why there was an independent law enforcement agency right next to the headquarters of the Cultivator Alliance.
"I almost forgot you're a foreigner and don't know much about China."
Ma Lan glanced at the Bell family's unusual appearance and then realized what was going on.
"It's all your fault for speaking Mandarin so well, little one. If it weren't for your different appearance, I would have thought you were a native China."
Bell chuckled awkwardly. Strictly speaking, it seemed that was indeed the case?
"The Bureau of Extraordinary Events is a Cultivator organization established by the government of those Spirit-Rootless Person, specifically responsible for arresting Cultivator who break the law."
I heard that in the beginning, there were only a handful of people in that organization, but in recent years, with the improvement of Fawley, more and more Cultivator have chosen to join the Bureau of Extraordinary Events.
At this point, Ma Lan couldn't help but curl her lip. It was clear that she looked down on those Cultivator who had joined the Bureau of Extraordinary Events.
"However, even so, the power of the Bureau of Extraordinary Events is still far behind that of our Cultivator Alliance. Therefore, they can only be responsible for handling some minor matters and incidentally take on the role of liaison between the Cultivator World and the Spirit-Rootless Person Government."
As she spoke, Ma Lan proudly puffed out her chest.
Bell nodded knowingly. It seemed the situation within the China Cultivator World was perhaps far more complex than he had imagined?
Just as Bell was about to ask some more questions about the Cultivator Alliance, Ma Lan suddenly spoke up, "We're here. This is the International Exchange and Cooperation Department."
Bell looked closely and sure enough, he saw a sign that read "International Exchange and Cooperation Department" on the edge of the gate.
"Little brothers, this is where I'll see you off. Remember to come visit me again sometime!"
After saying that, Ma Lan nodded to William and the others and then went back.
"You've finally arrived!"
Ma Lan left, a fat man pushed open the door and came out.
"My name is Wang Yuechun, and I am the Minister of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department. I welcome the members of the Menethil Family to China. Please forgive any neglect in my presence."
Director Wang was all smiles, his eyes almost disappearing from his gaze.
Honestly, even now, Director Wang still feels like he's dreaming.
Since accidentally offending someone above him and being relegated to the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, a menial department, Director Wang has been in despair.
He felt that his career in politics had probably come to an end and that he could no longer achieve anything.
However, just when he had resigned himself to his fate, some wonderful news suddenly came crashing down on him.
A prominent Britain wizarding family wants to enter the China market.
Years of hard-earned experience made Director Wang immediately realize that this was his opportunity! He had to seize it!
Director Wang made numerous preparations in order to properly receive the Britain from Menethil.
(He already thought Japan names were strange enough, but then he discovered that Britain names were even stranger. How could they possibly remember such long names?)
For example... um... oh, right! He moved his work start time from 12 noon to 8 am every day!
There's nothing I can do! Forget about Britain wizards, Director Wang hasn't even met a single ordinary Britain!
The only white people he had ever met were the Russians from the north. Did he expect him to bring two bottles of Erguotou (a type of Chinese liquor) to discuss cooperation with the Britain?
After asking everyone he knew to no avail, Director Wang had no choice but to resign himself to fate. He figured he could just settle for being a couch potato; after all, his pension wouldn't be reduced.
"These two little ones must be your son and daughter, right? They're so cute and look very well-behaved."
After glancing at Bell and Shanna, Director Wang praised them with a smile.
One of the secrets to winning someone's favor is to praise their child!
Next, the second secret technique to gain the other party's favor... Director Wang hasn't figured it out yet. So let's leave it at that for now.
