An immense pressure swept across the entire Withered Stone Wilderness in an instant. Even the mindless monsters froze for a moment beneath it.
The Broodmother, which had been pursuing Dunn all this time, stopped in its tracks. For the first time since opening, its hideous eyes shifted away from Dunn to another target.
With the aid of countless tentacles, the Broodmother's enormous body suddenly turned toward Sarna, who was enveloped in a vast swath of golden radiance.
For the first time, another emotion appeared in the Broodmother's malicious eyes: hesitation.
The Broodmother hesitated. With its tentacles helping it turn, it looked at Dunn, then toward Sarna, wasting nearly a full minute.
Only then did the Broodmother finally make up its mind, turn toward Dunn, and resume its pursuit!
It seemed that within the Broodmother's limited instincts, Dunn still mattered more to it.
Both Dunn and Annie breathed a sigh of relief at the sight. If the Broodmother had really chosen Sarna, they would have had no choice but to run.
Then, to hold the Broodmother back, Dunn would have had to face it head-on. But even if the Broodmother had no other means of attack, the physical attacks of its tentacles alone would probably have left Dunn unable to last more than a few seconds!
So, if things really reached that point, Dunn certainly would not stake his life on someone else coming through.
