The moment the stone statue's voice rang out, a strange smell quietly crept into everyone's noses.
"Do you smell something strange?" Dunn asked, his brows tightly knitted and his expression grave.
Annie beside him caught the same strange odor. Her delicate brows furrowed slightly. "I smell it too. It seems like... sulfur?"
The two exchanged a look, a trace of foreboding rising in both their hearts.
"What kind of Transcendent creature has that smell again?" Dunn struggled to recall what he had learned, but his mind went blank. He could not remember for the moment.
Suddenly, he and Annie looked at each other and cried out at the same time, "A demon!"
The word exploded in their hearts like a thunderclap, startling all three of them.
A shadow instantly fell over their faces.
In this world, both the New World and the Old World had once suffered great catastrophes from demonic invasions. There was no question of how powerful demons were.
Thus, for all the major powers, dealing with any sign of demons was an extremely high priority. They would even set aside certain grudges to join forces.
The Wizard Council had even made a Legendary Divination Spell permanent. If an Abyss Gate opened, the Wizard Council would detect it immediately and act swiftly-sending a team of Legendary Wizards to teleport directly to the scene and launch a "saturation bombardment."
And any demon capable of communicating across planes through such a crude blood sacrifice and giving a response had to be at least Legendary.
"Hmm? This is... that girl's presence!"
Suddenly, an eerie silence fell inside, pulling Dunn and the other two from their thoughts.
They peered inside, only to meet the villagers' eyes.
"Damned outsiders! We'll sacrifice you to the great Pakanis!" The Village Chief flew into a rage
