Kisame trapped Roshi in a massive water prison and used his shark-like form and Samehada to drain Roshi’s chakra. Roshi lost consciousness, and Kisame declared the Four-Tails successfully captured.

• Pain summoned all Akatsuki members to assemble, and Zetsu's clone was sent to bring Roshi back.

• Han traveled along a river in the Land of Earth while activating the steam switch in his armor.
• Xia Yu arrived on Yingying and called out to Han.
• Han recognized Xia Yu’s name and accused him of being a pervert who had come after him.
• Xia Yu denied the rumors and said he wanted the Five-Tails inside Han.
• Han laughed, released steam from his armor, and prepared to attack Xia Yu.

The Yingying Beast kicked Han away before Xia Yu could use him, then flew off to retrieve him. Han landed in a forest near Takigakure, where a cheerful girl found him and woke him.

• Han charged Xia Yu, but the Yingying Beast kicked him into the sky.
• The Yingying Beast promised Xia Yu she would track Han by his chakra scent and bring him back.
• Han crashed into a crater in a forest, where a girl searching for a supposed meteorite discovered him.
• Han woke and asked where he was, and the girl told him he was in Takigakure.

Han survived the Female Giant’s kick and met Fū, a girl who was also considered a monster and had something sealed inside her. The Yingying Beast caught up and threatened to drain both Han and Fū of their chakra.

• Han recovered from the Female Giant’s kick but nearly collapsed when he tried to leave for the Land of Earth.
• Fū insisted on helping Han, and he warned her that he was a monster before she said people called her one too.
• Han recognized that something seemed to be sealed inside Fū and learned her name.
• The Yingying Beast landed, ordered Han to come with her, and threatened to drain his chakra when he refused.
• The Yingying Beast noticed Fū and said the girl smelled good too.

Han and Fū joined forces against the Yingying Beast, but she captured them both and flew back to Xia Yu. Xia Yu was surprised to see Fū among the captives.

• Fū approached the Yingying Beast to ask her to be friends, but the beast tried to stomp on her.
• Han recognized Fū as Takigakure’s Jinchūriki and revealed that he was the Five-Tails Jinchūriki, then asked her to help fight the Yingying Beast.
• Fū used her Scale Powder Concealment Technique, but the Yingying Beast tracked her by smell and grabbed her and Han.
• The Yingying Beast crushed Han’s Steam Armor and drained both captives’ chakra before carrying them away.
• Xia Yu saw the Yingying Beast returning with Han and Fū, and reacted with surprise at the unexpected bonus.

Xia Yu received the unconscious Han and Fū from the Yingying Beast, then fed her chakra as a reward. After the Yingying Beast fell asleep, a giant aloe appeared and commented on Xia Yu capturing two Jinchūriki so quickly.

• The Yingying Beast returned late with the unconscious Han and admitted she had drained much of his chakra.
• Xia Yu discovered that the Yingying Beast had hidden Fū and told her Fū was his next target.
• Xia Yu took Fū from the Yingying Beast and placed her beside Han.
• Xia Yu fed the Yingying Beast his chakra until she fell asleep.
• A giant aloe appeared beside Xia Yu and remarked that he had captured two Jinchūriki so quickly.

Xia Yu left after handing the captured Han and Fū to Black Zetsu and White Zetsu, urging them to hurry with the remaining tailed beasts. In Kumogakure, the Raikage learned that his brother and Yugito had vanished and set out to retrieve his brother himself.

• Xia Yu told Black Zetsu and White Zetsu that the Seven-Tails Jinchuriki, Utakata, and the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, Naruto, remained to be captured, then flew away.
• Black Zetsu and White Zetsu swallowed the unconscious Han and Fū and sank underground.
• A ninja reported to the Raikage that his brother and Yugito had disappeared, and the Raikage ordered Kumogakure's ninja to search the Land of Lightning in sensor-equipped squads.

The Raikage learned that Kakuzu and Hidan were near the Valley of Clouds and Lightning and set out with Darui and C to confront them. At the Akatsuki base, Pain released Kakuzu and Hidan from sealing the tailed beast so they could protect their bodies, and the pair prepared to face the approaching Kumogakure forces.

• Mabui summoned Darui and C to the Raikage's Office after the Raikage insisted on acting on intelligence about the intruders.
• Darui reported that two red-cloud-cloaked ninja had been found near the Valley of Clouds and Lightning, and an investigator identified one as Kakuzu.
• The Raikage recognized Kakuzu and his companion as the men who abducted his little brother and Yugito, then ordered Darui and C to accompany him.
• Black Zetsu warned Kakuzu and Hidan that about ten elite ninja squads were approaching their bodies.
• Pain told Kakuzu and Hidan to stop sealing the tailed beast and defend themselves, but Hidan refused additional help so he could claim the enemies as sacrifices to Lord Jashin.

Hidan and Kakuzu faced a Kumogakure squad searching for Killer B and Yugito, and the squad unleashed its strongest combined Lightning Release technique against them. After ten minutes of lightning destroyed the forest, the chapter left their fate unclear.

• Hidan and Kakuzu refused to reveal where Killer B and Yugito were, and the squad captain ordered an attack.
• Kakuzu hardened his skin to deflect the ninja tools, while Hidan was struck all over but remained alive and cursed the attackers.
• The Kumogakure squad recognized the pair as dangerous and decided to use a combined lethal technique.
• Forty Kumogakure jonin cast Lightning Release: Multiple Falling Thunder Technique, raining lightning across the forest for ten minutes and destroying it.

Kakuzu and Hidan survived Kumogakure’s ten-minute Multiple Lightning Strike Jutsu without injury and attacked the Jonin waiting for them. As the fight began, the Kumogakure ninja realized Hidan could survive having his heart pierced.

• The Kumogakure Jonin waited for the smoke to clear, assuming the lightning strikes had killed Kakuzu and Hidan.
• Kakuzu appeared behind the captain, tore out his heart, and revealed that he and Hidan were unharmed.
• Kakuzu absorbed the captain’s heart to replace the lightning-affinity heart the strikes had destroyed.
• Hidan charged into the crowd, cut two ninja in half, and declared them sacrifices to Lord Jashin.
• A Kumogakure ninja stabbed Hidan through the heart with a Lightning Release longsword, but Hidan remained alive and complained about the pain.

Kakuzu trapped and burned the surviving Kumogakure ninja, but one Jonin survived long enough to warn the arriving Raikage squad that Kakuzu and Hidan were immortal. The Raikage arrived with C and another companion as Morai died, leaving them to face the pair forewarned.

• Kakuzu bound the fleeing Kumogakure ninja with buried black threads and attacked them with combined Fire and Wind Release.
• Hidan argued with Kakuzu for burning his intended offerings to Lord Jashin.
• A surviving Kumogakure Jonin groaned beneath the rocks, and Hidan moved to kill him with his Triple-Bladed Scythe.
• A lightning attack blasted Hidan away as the Raikage, C, and a third figure arrived.
• The Raikage urged C to treat Morai, but Morai warned them that Kakuzu and Hidan were immortal before dying.

The Raikage and Darui attacked Kakuzu and Hidan after Morai's death, but the duo survived their blows. Hidan got up and called on Kakuzu to fight back.

• The Raikage swore revenge on Kakuzu and Hidan and activated his strongest Lightning Armor.
• C used Lightning Illusion: Lightning Pillar to blind Kakuzu and Hidan while the Raikage and Darui attacked them.

• Kakuzu stood up after Hidan accidentally revealed that he had been playing dead, and the two argued over the mistake.
• C and Darui discussed the duo’s apparent immortality, while the Raikage welcomed the chance to fight without holding back.
• The Raikage vowed to tear off the duo’s limbs and keep them alive so he could interrogate them about Yugito and his younger brother.

The Raikage and Darui pressured Kakuzu and Hidan, preventing them from collecting blood. Kakuzu entered Earth Grudge Fear Mode and launched a combined attack after claiming the Raikage’s younger brother was dead.

• The Raikage smashed Kakuzu’s left arm off, but black threads reattached it to his body.
• Darui’s black lightning kept Hidan from getting close, and both Hidan and Kakuzu admitted they had collected no blood.
• Kakuzu recalled his Earth Grudge Fear creatures and transformed into Earth Grudge Fear Mode.
• The Raikage demanded to know where his younger brother was, and Kakuzu said he was already dead.

As the Akatsuki continued sealing the tailed beasts, Pain sent Itachi, Kisame, and Zetsu to retrieve Kakuzu and Hidan, who were fighting Kumogakure forces. They departed under orders to bring the pair back quickly without getting drawn into battle.

• Deidara complained about the long sealing process, and Sasori snapped at him.
• Pain learned from Zetsu that Kakuzu and Hidan were fighting Fourth Raikage A, Darui, and C while more Kumogakure fighters approached.
• Deidara offered to help Kakuzu and Hidan, and Sasori said he would go too, but Kisame mocked their proposals.

• Kakuzu fired [Final Shooting] at C and Darui, but the Raikage rescued them just before the blast hit.
• Kakuzu and Hidan assumed the three enemies were dead and prepared to leave.
• The Raikage appeared between Kakuzu and Hidan, grabbed them, and slammed them into the ground with a Liger Bomb.
• The Raikage explained that his speed had let him survive Kakuzu’s attack, then raised his elbows to strike their heads.

The Raikage beheaded Hidan and Kakuzu to restrain them, then learned that Jinchūriki from multiple countries had been abducted. Suspecting their captors were targeting all Jinchūriki, he ordered Kumogakure to seek cooperation with Konoha.

• The Raikage severed Hidan's and Kakuzu's heads but kept them alive so they could be questioned about Killer B.
• Kakuzu secretly tried to reconnect his head with black threads, but the Raikage ordered C and Darui to watch their bodies and prepare to seal them.
• Hidan taunted the Raikage, who was about to crush his head when Furai arrived with urgent news.

Furai began sealing Kakuzu and Hidan’s bodies under the Raikage’s orders, but Akatsuki members appeared before the sealing was complete. The newcomers were identified as Uchiha Itachi, Kisame Hoshigaki, White Zetsu, and Black Zetsu, leaving the Raikage’s forces facing a new threat.

• Furai gathered the sealing ninja and ordered them to seal Kakuzu and Hidan, while Hidan shouted threats and Kakuzu accepted his apparent fate.
• The sealing ninja wrapped Kakuzu and Hidan in bandages, but crows suddenly swarmed around them.
• Darui attacked the crows with Lightning Release shuriken, and three Akatsuki figures emerged from the mist.
• C recognized Uchiha Itachi and Kisame Hoshigaki but could not identify White Zetsu.

The Raikage’s forces attacked Kisame, Itachi, and White Zetsu, but White Zetsu secretly moved Hidan’s and Kakuzu’s bodies and then trapped the Kumogakure ninja with Spore Technique. The Raikage and his men were immobilized as Kisame prepared to fight Darui.

• The Raikage struck Kisame with a lightning-fast attack, but Samehada absorbed some of his Lightning Release chakra.
• White Zetsu revealed that his clone had carried Hidan’s and Kakuzu’s bodies underground, and Furai noticed their heads were missing too.
• The Raikage ordered his ninja to surround Itachi and White Zetsu and demanded the bodies’ whereabouts.
• Kisame rose from the rubble nearly unharmed, and Darui volunteered to fight him while C went to help the Raikage.
• C found himself unable to move as white growths spread over him and the other Kumogakure ninja, including the Raikage.
• White Zetsu announced that Spore Technique had succeeded.

Black Zetsu, White Zetsu, and Itachi escaped after immobilizing the Kumogakure ninja with spores, while Kisame stayed behind and was revealed to be a decoy. The furious Raikage ordered an investigation into the rogue-ninja organization, and Kakuzu finished reassembling Hidan in a cave.

• Black Zetsu urged White Zetsu to stop boasting, then he and Itachi escaped while the spores kept the Kumogakure ninja from pursuing them.
• The Raikage punched Kisame's head off, but the head transformed into the likeness of White Zetsu, revealing that the Kumogakure ninja had been fooled.
• The Raikage ordered Darui and C to secure the body and return to Kumogakure, and he called for the great nations to unite against the rogue-ninja organization.
• In a cave, Kakuzu reattached Hidan's head, and Hidan picked up his Triple-Bladed Scythe and vowed to fight the Kumogakure ninja again.

Hidan reluctantly returned with Kakuzu and the others, while Tobi brought Utakata and the Three-Tails to the Akatsuki Base. After learning that only the Nine-Tails remained uncaptured, Tobi called for the group to seal the beasts and then head to Konoha.

• Pain ordered Hidan to return for the Akatsuki’s mission, and Kakuzu persuaded him to obey before pursuing revenge on the Raikage.
• Kakuzu and the others crossed the sea and entered the Akatsuki Base.
• Deidara taunted Hidan about his severed head, and Hidan nearly attacked him.
