As the saying went, if you wanted a horse to run, you had to feed it first.
So, before filming the pig-farming commercial, Chen Chong took Xu Chao out for Shaxian food.
Xu Chao tapped his chopsticks to express his dissatisfaction. "Dog Bro, you're a top agent, for crying out loud, and this, this is what you treat your cash cow to?"
Chen Chong smacked his chopsticks against the hand Xu Chao was using to snatch up steamed dumplings. "Then don't eat it, if you've got the guts."
"No way." Xu Chao quickly stuffed a steamed dumpling into his mouth. "Food is fuel. Skip one meal and you're starving."
Chen Chong still wasn't happy. "I'm a top agent, but you're not a top star. You're lucky I'm feeding you at all. Quit being so picky."
Xu Chao felt indignant. In his original world, he had long since become an acclaimed, award-winning actor. But after transmigrating into a novel, he was a nobody again.
It was a tale of nothing but hardship and tears.
So he wouldn't tell it. Time to eat.
After finishing their Shaxian food, the two headed to the farm to film the commercial. Then Xu Chao keenly noticed... a car had been following them the whole time!
Chen Chong glanced in the rearview mirror. Sure enough, a black Volkswagen was right on their tail.
He narrowed his eyes, tightened his grip on the steering wheel, turned left, turned right, and drifted.
The car behind them followed closely, turning left, turning right, and pulling off a big drift.
One look confirmed it: these were people tailing them.
With that bizarre jungle murder case having happened just days earlier, Chen Chong instantly imagined an elaborate revenge plot. His scalp prickled, and he floored the accelerator, hurriedly telling Xu Chao, "Call the police!"
The next second, a wild burst of laughter exploded beside his ear.
"Why call the police? That's my fan back there. Ever heard of Sasaeng Fans?"
As an agent, of course he'd heard of Sasaeng Fans, but could Xu Chao have any?
Chen Chong hesitated for a second, but stuck to his theory. "Is there any chance those are their accomplices, coming to take revenge on you?"
Xu Chao was absolutely certain it was a Sasaeng Fan. After all, the original novel had stated that between mercenaries, there were only dirty, illicit dealings, not a shred of genuine affection.
Revenge was out of the question. Seizing the opportunity to steal their business was the way to go.
Chen Chong watched carefully for a long while. The black Volkswagen really was only following them, without making any aggressive moves.
As long as they weren't after their lives, that was fine. Chen Chong breathed a sigh of relief, sped up, and soon arrived at the agreed-upon farm.
The other team was already waiting there. The moment they saw Xu Chao arrive, they excitedly stepped forward. "Master Xu, we've waited and waited, and you're finally here!"
Xu Chao was a little overwhelmed by the warm reception. Was he that popular now?
The next second, a big pig wearing a bow excitedly came nudging toward Xu Chao, along with an alpaca with a little topknot and a German shepherd with sleek fur...
Caught completely off guard by the onslaught, Xu Chao almost landed on his backside. Luckily, he reacted quickly, grabbed the pig's ears, vaulted up, and settled securely onto its back.
Seeing this, the farm owner hurried to intervene. "Huahua, stop that."
Huahua wouldn't listen at all, happily trotting in circles with Xu Chao on its back and constantly rubbing against his legs.
Everyone could feel the joy radiating from Huahua.
Holding its furry ears, Xu Chao smiled. "It's fine. Huahua's just playing with me."
The farm owner said with a smile, "Huahua and these others are all fans of yours. They were beside themselves with excitement when they heard you were coming."
As soon as the words were out, the others nearby crowded up to Xu Chao too, nudging and rubbing against him.
Xu Chao was surprised, delighted, and smug. Hehe, that's me for you. I'm so popular I've crossed the species barrier.
Watching Xu Chao surrounded by the animals, Chen Chong walked over and asked, "Have you settled on the script for the commercial?"
The director beside him nodded. "Yes, yes. First we'll do this, then that, and finally this again."
Listening nearby, Xu Chao suddenly had a flash of inspiration and immediately raised his hand. "Director, I have an idea."
The director welcomed Xu Chao's creative input. "Let's hear it."
Xu Chao animatedly demonstrated and explained to the director. "First we'll do this, then that, and finally this. You get it, right?"
The more the director listened, the brighter his eyes grew. He nodded furiously in excitement. "Yes, yes, yes! Your idea is absolutely brilliant. Come on, let's discuss the details. This is how we'll shoot the commercial."
Chen Chong stood beside them, the corners of his mouth twitching uncontrollably as he listened. Was Xu Chao's lousy idea really any good?
Still, seeing how excited the director and farm owner looked, Chen Chong cautiously figured that the paying client wouldn't go so crazy as to smash his own rice bowl!
Having talked himself into accepting it, Chen Chong obediently became part of the background, watching Xu Chao and the farm owner run across the grass for the shoot.
Because both sides were completely in sync, whether in their ideas for the commercial or their aesthetic standards, and the farm's animals were all extremely cooperative too.
So, they finished filming the commercial just as the sun was setting.
All that remained was to wait for postproduction to edit it into a finished piece, then put it out for promotion.
Xu Chao said goodbye to the commercial crew members one by one. As he prepared to leave, the farm's animals gathered around him.
Only after stroking this one and rubbing that one did Xu Chao reluctantly leave.
Not long after they got in the car and drove away from the farm, the black Volkswagen quietly caught up again.
Xu Chao narrowed his eyes. In fact, he had sensed someone secretly watching him throughout the commercial shoot too.
But he'd had work to do then and no time to bother with this Sasaeng Fan.
Now that work was finished, he had nothing else to do anyway. Teacher Xu was going to give a lesson on being a sensible fan!
"Dog Bro, pull over by the road. Let's wait for this Sasaeng Fan. I want to have a proper chat with them."
