Baki followed behind Rasa and spoke cautiously:
"Lord Kazekage, what should we do next?"
"With all the elders suddenly dead, the village is bound to fall into chaos..."
Rasa sneered, a trace of malice flashing in his eyes:
"Those old fossils will have to serve one last purpose, even in death."
He stopped and lowered his voice. "Pin their deaths on Konoha."
Baki froze for a moment, then understood.
He meant to use this chance to stir up the villagers' hatred of Konoha!
He immediately bowed. "I'll see to it at once!"
Before long, a large crowd of villagers had gathered outside the Kazekage Building.
People whispered among themselves, discussing what was happening.
"Why did they suddenly call us here?"
"Did we lose another battle at the front?"
"Shh, keep your voice down. Don't let Lord Kazekage hear you..."
Just then, the doors of the Kazekage Building slowly opened.
Rasa emerged with a grief-stricken expression, followed by Baki pushing a handcart.
Lying on the cart were more than a dozen bodies covered in white cloth!
"Heavens! Are those... the elders?!" The crowd instantly erupted.
Rasa raised a hand to quiet everyone, his voice choked:
"Fellow villagers, today, Konoha Ninja infiltrated our Sunagakure and brutally murdered every one of our elders!"
"What?!" The villagers turned pale with fright. "How could people from Konoha sneak in without a sound?"
At that moment, a bold middle-aged man in the crowd shouted:
"Lord Kazekage, nothing like this has ever happened before. How could Konoha suddenly infiltrate the village?"
That was exactly the question Rasa had been waiting for.
He abruptly raised his voice. "Because someone showed them the way!"
He swept his gaze over the crowd and said, enunciating every word,
"It was Pakura! She never died at Kirigakure's hands. She defected to Konoha!"
