Yūto did not head straight to the Orphanage. Instead, he went to the clan's general store.

As Konoha's largest clan, the Uchiha Clan had a compound that was practically a miniature Konoha.

It had residential and commercial districts, and in the past, it had even had its own ninja school.

Before Tobirama Senju founded the Ninja Academy, the Uchiha Clan's children had all studied at that ninja school.

After the Ninja Academy was established, however, the ninja school had gradually fallen into disuse.

There had been a similar ninja school within the Senju Clan Compound. Though Tobirama Senju was a genius, he had not dreamed up all his policies out of thin air.

Naturally, the owner of the general store in the Uchiha Clan Compound was also an Uchiha.

The shopkeeper, however, had never awakened his Sharingan.

After over a thousand years of dilution, Indra's bloodline no longer allowed every Uchiha to awaken the Sharingan.

Quite a few Uchiha remained Genin without a Sharingan for almost their entire lives. They retired early and took up other livelihoods.

The shopkeeper before him was one such example. Yūto had heard that he had even been classmates with Hiruzen Sarutobi.

The moment he saw Yūto, the shopkeeper greeted him warmly.

"Yūto, it's been a while since you last came by. The usual three things?"

Only after speaking did the shopkeeper notice Shisui beside him, and he immediately addressed him respectfully.

"Hello, young master Shisui."

The shopkeeper's respect did not stem from any particular nobility in Shisui's bloodline, but from the Uchiha Clan's tradition of revering the strong.

In terms of seniority, the shopkeeper was roughly of Shisui's grandfather's generation. He certainly could not call Shisui "my lord," so "young master" would have to do.

Shisui hurriedly returned his greeting. "Hello. There's no need to be so formal with me."

The shopkeeper smiled without saying anything and turned to enter the store's stockroom. Before long, he reappeared pushing a small cart.

Large sacks of rice and flour sat on the cart, along with cooking oil.

"Yūto, I'll leave the cart here. You can take it if you need it."

"Otherwise, moving all this by yourself would be too much work."

Yūto appreciated the shopkeeper's kindness.

Had Shisui not been there, he might have pushed the cart to the Orphanage. As things stood, carrying one sack of rice or flour each was nothing for ninja.

Yūto smiled and politely declined the shopkeeper's offer. After paying, he lifted a sack of rice with one hand and slung it over his shoulder. Shisui picked up the sack of flour without needing to be asked.

"Do you bring this much every time you visit the Orphanage?" Shisui could not help asking.

Yūto shrugged. "The kids are growing. They eat a lot."

Shisui fell silent for a moment, then suddenly said quietly, "I was too full of myself before... If I'd been stronger, you and Tsukimi wouldn't have gotten hurt."

Yūto glanced at Shisui. Though he had not intended for Tsukimi to get hurt, he was still grateful that Shisui had nearly helped him achieve his goal of getting himself killed.

Yūto only hoped that, once he was on the battlefield, he would have a superior just as confident as Shisui who could lead him to his death.

The two walked through Konoha's streets, their surroundings growing increasingly desolate.

Unlike the Uchiha Clan Compound, which stood in the center of Konoha, the Orphanage had been tucked away in a little-frequented corner of the village.

Of course, after the Nine-Tails' attack, the Uchiha Clan Compound would also be shoved into a corner. Neither would have room to laugh at the other.

When they reached the Orphanage's gates, Yūto did not see the welcoming crowd of children he had imagined. Instead, he encountered someone unexpected.

Though he had never seen this man since crossing over, Yūto still recognized him at a glance.

It was Shimura Danzō.

At that moment, Shimura Danzō seemed to be saying something that put Nonō in a difficult position. A troubled look showed on her face.

The children were all hiding behind several nuns, seemingly terrified of that old bastard Danzo.

Yūto recalled the plot of Naruto. Nonō had worked for Danzo for a time, then left Root for some unknown reason.

Perhaps that was why Danzo had invented the Cursed Tongue Eradication Seal-to prevent any more members from leaving.

With Nonō being so capable at her work, Danzo naturally did not want to lose such a useful subordinate.

Later, after the Third Shinobi World War, the village had lacked funds, and the Orphanage's funding had dwindled. Left with no choice, Nonō had returned to her old line of work, working for Danzo as a spy again.

At this point in time, Danzo was probably pestering Nonō again.

Seeing this, Yūto frowned and strode forward to stand in front of Nonō, crowding Danzo out behind him without so much as a glance. "Nonō, I'm here. Should I put the rice and flour in the storeroom as usual?"

Only then did Yūto turn toward Danzo behind him. After looking him up and down, he said disdainfully:

"Who are you, old man? Don't block the way."

Nonō really thought Yūto did not recognize Danzo. She hurriedly grabbed his arm and said:

"Yūto, this is Lord Danzo. He's one of Konoha's senior officials. Don't be so rude."

Shisui also recognized Danzo and knew his position. He hurried to greet him. "Lord Danzo."

Then he shot Yūto a look, signaling for him to hurry up and pay his respects to Danzo.

Had it been Hiruzen Sarutobi, that would have been one thing. But Yūto had no goodwill whatsoever toward Danzo.

He made a show of thinking for a long while before saying:

"Danzo? Who's that? Some stray dog by the road?"

Danzo held back his anger. Had Shisui not been present, he would certainly have taught Yūto a lesson himself, or even killed him.

But Danzo had always wanted to recruit Shisui. With few Sharingan in his possession at present, he was very eager to obtain the Three Tomoe in Shisui's eyes.

Danzo narrowed his lone eye, his sinister gaze sweeping over Yūto. "Uchiha brat, I am Konoha's Hokage's assistant!"

Yūto feigned surprise, though his words remained mocking. "Oh, the Hokage's assistant. Then what are you here for? To make a donation to the Orphanage?"

Danzo's face darkened like iron, and a trace of viciousness flashed through his lone eye.

He tightened his grip on his cane until his knuckles turned white, but ultimately could not refute Yūto's mockery.

After all, Danzo really did not have much money at present.

Root would only receive substantial funding after Minato died in battle, when the Third relaxed his restrictions on Root to prepare for possible attacks on Konoha.

"Hmph. An ignorant brat who doesn't know his place..."

He coldly tossed out those words, then turned to leave.

As he passed Shisui, he deliberately paused and lowered his voice. "Young Uchiha, you should learn to recognize who Konoha's true pillar is."

Only after Danzo disappeared around the street corner did Nonō let out a long breath. She looked at Yūto worriedly. "You shouldn't have provoked him..."

Even Shisui tried to persuade him.

"She's right, Yūto. Lord Danzo hasn't gone far yet. Hurry after him and apologize."

Yūto neither agreed nor disagreed with their words. Instead, he spoke with an air of mystery.

"Do you know why Danzo has always claimed he'll never marry?"

Both shook their heads.

"Because he likes young girls. The kind who are even younger than Obito!"

"Now you know why I won't be nice to Danzo!"

The corners of Yūto's mouth curled slightly. He had absolutely no qualms about spreading sexual rumors about Danzo.
