Background / History

Joining the Military Police

Tsukimi initially earns her living through missions outside Konoha and dislikes the Military Police Force’s comparatively low salary. Her grandfather nevertheless persuades her to join and urges her to grow closer to Yūto. Fugaku assigns her to a squad with Yūto and Shisui, creating an awkward reunion after Yūto has dismissed her as merely an acquaintance despite her cooking dinner for him 5 6.

Her grandfather sees the assignment as a political opportunity: he hopes she can influence Shisui away from the Dove Faction and toward the Hawks. Tsukimi finds his demand that she help restore the clan overwhelming, worrying that she is only a Chūnin with two tomoe. She eventually approaches Yūto to apologize for losing her temper and clear the air before their squad begins work 7.

Kumogakure Conflict

During the squad’s confrontation with Kumogakure spies, Tsukimi suffers wounds to her left arm and right leg. Yūto knocks her away from a fatal attack and takes a lightning-covered blade through his chest. Believing him to be dying, she awakens her Three-Tomoe Sharingan 9 10 11.

After their return to Konoha, Tsukimi refuses to leave Yūto’s bedside despite needing treatment herself. She continues attending to him throughout his hospitalization and later brings food during his grandfather-supervised training, challenging the Elder when she believes he is pushing Yūto too hard 12 13 18 19.

Her grandfather subsequently dies saving Yūto in battle. Tsukimi grieves but takes pride in learning that he killed two Kumogakure Jōnin before his death, rather than blaming Yūto. She later fights alongside Yūto in the attack on a Kumogakure camp and helps confront Dodai 31 35.

Courtship and Chinoike Rescue

Tsukimi repeatedly disguises attempts at dates as patrol assignments. To celebrate Yūto’s promotion, she prepares honey-and-red-bean ration pills and invents a staffing shortage to get him alone. Tsunade interrupts that outing; a later riverside meal is interrupted by Kumogakure attackers 38 48 49.

When Yūto volunteers to rescue the Chinoike Clan, Tsukimi objects to being left behind and insists that she can face the danger beside him. Fugaku supports her, and Yūto accepts her participation on the condition that she follow his orders. During the infiltration, she uses genjutsu and a Kumogakure disguise, watches for changes in the sensory barrier, and is later entrusted with continuing negotiations with the clan 50 53 55.

Her pursuit of Yūto also includes drugging his water with a sleep-inducing substance obtained from Tsunade so that she can kiss him. She falls asleep as well and admits what she did the following morning; Yūto tells her they will discuss it after the mission 50 51.

Relationship with Yūto

Tsukimi continues training because she wants to catch up to Yūto. After returning to Konoha with him, she discovers Pakura living at his house and identifying herself as his girlfriend. Feeling that her efforts have come too late, Tsukimi leaves in tears and seeks comfort from Tsunade 169 170.

Tsunade assures her that neither she nor Pakura intends to exclude her. Tsukimi subsequently participates in another scheme to drug Yūto, with Pakura administering the substance. Later chapters show the three women coordinating their time with him rather than competing openly, and Tsukimi is explicitly identified as his girlfriend 170 172 236.

Land of Rain Investigation

While working in the Land of Grass, Tsukimi receives instructions to assist Yūto’s investigation in the Land of Rain. She arrives ahead of him to learn the area, finds an inn, and helps him investigate a man using Madara Uchiha’s name 220.

At the Akatsuki base, she answers hostile members’ challenges by defeating them together. Her intelligence work along the border also informs a practical proposal for improving local living conditions: digging ponds and reservoirs for fish farming 224 225 226.

When Obito attacks Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato, Tsukimi stands between them and him. Unable to overcome his speed and intangibility directly, she creates an opening through genjutsu and lands a lightning-enhanced kick. Obito withdraws after the main battle falls silent, while Tsukimi collapses from the attack’s physical backlash 236 237.

Later Service

Three years after the Nine-Tails incident is prevented, Tsukimi accompanies Yūto and three-year-old Naruto around Konoha. She later serves as assistant examiner under Pakura during the Chūnin Exams’ Forest of Death round, observing that Yūto’s traps and summoned beasts make the test far harsher than her own promotion assessment 241 250 251.

Appearance

Tsukimi has waist-length black hair, straight bangs, and black eyes when her Sharingan is inactive 5.

  • Casual clothing: A pale pink sleeveless top, ninja shorts, and a waist sash bearing the Uchiha fan crest 5.
  • Mission clothing: A forehead protector, dark blue combat uniform, green ninja vest, and a waist-mounted tool pouch 8.
  • Alternate hairstyle: Occasionally wears her hair in a high ponytail 22.
  • Dōjutsu: Her Sharingan develops from two tomoe to three during the early spy mission 7 11.

Personality

Tsukimi is proud of her Uchiha identity and initially shares the Hawk Faction’s distrust of Konoha’s institutions. When she sees Yūto injured, she first suspects that ANBU has pushed dangerous work onto the clan; even after learning that a spy was responsible, she blames ANBU for allowing the infiltration. Her concern for maintaining the Elder’s family reputation also makes her reluctant to retract an assignment she has already accepted 5 6.

She is attentive and protective toward Yūto, bringing meals, tending to him during recovery, and confronting both her grandfather and Yūto when she thinks they are disregarding his safety. At the same time, she resents being treated as someone who can only hide behind stronger companions and insists on contributing to dangerous missions herself 12 18 19 50 169.

Her romantic behavior shifts between embarrassment, jealousy, and calculated attempts to secure time alone with Yūto. Nevertheless, she can set jealousy aside for work: during the Chinoike mission, she continues negotiations despite her anger over Yuki’s attention to him. In the Land of Rain, she also shows concern for refugees and indignation when Hanzō falsely accuses the Akatsuki of treason 38 54 55 234.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Genjutsu

Tsukimi combines visual perception with rapid genjutsu to disrupt opponents and create openings 35 225.

  • Briefly stalls Dodai, though he breaks her illusion by biting his tongue and later resists further attempts 35.
  • Helps incapacitate Kumogakure ninja during the Chinoike infiltration 53.
  • Stuns an Akatsuki opponent with eye contact before knocking him unconscious 225.
  • Briefly controls Konan to launch paper senbon at Obito, creating the distraction needed for her counterattack 237.
  • Her enhanced ocular power helps her resist Obito’s Mangekyō pressure, but she remains at a disadvantage and cannot see through his control of Hanzō 234 236.

Fire Release

Her Fire Release ranges from small, precisely controlled projectiles to broad attacks that restrict enemy movement 35 225 229.

  • Phoenix Flower Jutsu / Phoenix Flower Fire: Drives opponents back, cuts off escape routes, and separates enemies from their allies 10 35 225.
  • Great Fireball Technique: Attacks from the flank during the Dodai battle; she can also reduce it to a ping-pong-ball-sized projectile 35 229.
  • Majestic Destroyer Flame: Covers a fan-shaped area extending more than ten meters during the Akatsuki confrontation 225.
  • Rain suppresses her Fire Release during the clearing battle, encouraging her to change tactics 225.

Lightning Release and Nintaijutsu

Tsukimi uses Lightning Release both for area control and a short, extreme burst of physical speed 225 236 237.

  • Produces lightning spheres around herself without hand seals; the damp conditions help the current reach and incapacitate three attackers 225.
  • Improvises a burst technique based on Kumogakure’s use of lightning chakra to stimulate nerves and muscles 236.
  • Lightning Release: Uchiha Style: Leaf Great Whirlwind: Lands a kick described as faster than sound against Obito before he can activate intangibility 237.
  • She has not mastered sustained Lightning Release nintaijutsu. The improvised kick leaves her numb, in pain, and unable to remain standing 236 237.

Taijutsu and Ninja Tools

She links kicks, close-range strikes, genjutsu, and wire traps rather than relying solely on large ninjutsu 225.

  • Redirects wired shuriken after an apparent miss to bind an opponent’s ankles 225.
  • Uses enemy-created Earth-Style Walls as cover to approach and deliver knockout strikes 225.
  • Can barely keep pace with Obito through Sharingan perception and instinct; his physical abilities overwhelm her in a direct exchange 236.

Infiltration, Intelligence, and Practical Skills

  • Transformation Technique: Assumes the appearance of a female Kumogakure ninja during the Chinoike rescue 53.
  • Reconnaissance: Familiarizes herself with the Land of Rain ahead of Yūto and gathers information along its border 220 226.
  • Local development: Proposes fish farming suited to the Land of Rain’s climate, with ponds and reservoirs supported by ninja labor 226.
  • Food preparation: Cooks meals for Yūto and makes customized honey-and-red-bean military ration pills 5 38 48.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Kunai and shuriken — Carried in her ninja tool pouch and used in close combat and ranged attacks 8 35.
  • Steel wire — Attached to shuriken for redirection and restraint 225.
  • Forehead protector and ninja vest — Part of her mission equipment from her early police service 8.
  • Kunai pendant — A favorite childhood birthday gift; Yūto gives it to Yuki during the infiltration, angering Tsukimi 54.
  • Homemade ration pills — Honey-and-red-bean-flavored provisions prepared for her patrol outing with Yūto 38.

Relationships

  • Uchiha Yūto — Squadmate and eventual boyfriend. His attempt to save her triggers her third tomoe; she later strives to become strong enough to stand beside him 11 50 169 236.
  • The Uchiha Grand Elder — Grandfather and Hawk Faction elder who arranges her entry into the police. Despite arguing with him over Yūto’s training, she takes pride in his final battle 6 7 19 31.
  • Uchiha Shisui — Older police squadmate whom she addresses as her senior. Her grandfather hopes she can change his factional loyalties 7 8.
  • Uchiha Fugaku — Clan leader who assigns her police squad and later vouches for her ability to undertake the Chinoike rescue 6 50.
  • Tsunade — Admired comrade, romantic rival, and later confidante who encourages her pursuit of Yūto 50 54 170.
  • Pakura — Initially a source of romantic insecurity; later cooperates with Tsukimi in their shared relationship with Yūto and supervises her as head examiner 169 172 250.
  • Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato — Akatsuki leaders whom she advises and protects. Konan catches her when she collapses after fighting Obito 226 236 237.
  • Naruto Uzumaki — A child she genuinely enjoys spending time with, encouraging his confidence during an outing through Konoha 241.

Notable Quotes

“In your eyes, am I only capable of hiding behind other people?” 50

“As long as I’m here, don’t even think about laying another finger on them!” 236

Trivia

  • Tsukimi calls herself Yūto’s “childhood friend” when confronting Yugito, although they have known each other well for less than a year. Yūto later confirms that they first truly became acquainted in his courtyard 72 140.
  • The narration jokingly compares her incomplete Mangekyō evolution to “half-step Mangekyō great perfection.” This describes her unusually strong three-tomoe ocular power, not a completed Mangekyō or a formal ninja rank 236.
