Watching Yūto give up trying, the Elder smiled faintly, formed a Tiger seal, and spat a fireball from his mouth.
The fireball struck Yūto squarely on the backside, setting it alight.
Yūto rolled desperately on the ground, beating at the flames on his body until the last flicker had gone out.
Panting heavily, he jerked his head up and shouted at the Elder, "I'm done training! This isn't training, it's torture!"
The Elder's expression abruptly darkened, and a cold gleam rose in his Three-Tomoe Sharingan. "Do you think this is a game?"
Before his words had faded, his pupils spun, and Genjutsu instantly invaded Yūto's consciousness.
Yūto felt the scene before him warp. His surroundings suddenly plunged into darkness, countless blood-red eyes opened in the void, and an icy voice echoed:
"Ninja in the Warring States Period had no right to back down."
Agony swept over him like a tide, as though every inch of his flesh were being torn apart.
Yūto fell to his knees, cold sweat soaking his clothes, but gritted his teeth and refused to submit.
The Elder watched him coldly. "Either keep training or break down in the Genjutsu. Choose."
Yūto's vision darkened with pain as he gasped for breath.
Saying he would quit training was easy, but the Elder's punishment really was brutal.
He had actually used Sharingan Genjutsu on him, an Uchiha who hadn't even awakened his eyes.
Wasn't this just blatant bullying of an honest man?!
Resentment welled up in Yūto's heart, giving him the nerve to lash out.
He feigned surrender and said to the Elder:
"I'll train! I'll keep training, all right?!"
Hearing his words, the Elder's lips curved into a smile. The Genjutsu he had just used on Yūto was not as simple as it seemed.
It involved not only physical pain but psychological suggestion as well.
Yūto pretended to slump to the ground in exhaustion, panting heavily as he said, "Elder, let me rest a little..."
The Elder gave a slight nod and turned toward the shrine steps.
At that very instant, anger flashed in Yūto's eyes. He sprang up, fists clenched, chakra boiling inside him.
"You old geezer-!"
His anger burned like fire. A sudden stab of pain shot through Yūto’s eyes, and the world in his vision seemed stained with blood. Without his noticing, the tomoe in his Sharingan slowly turned.
The Elder had planted a psychological suggestion in Yūto during the Genjutsu. He knew Yūto would launch a sneak attack out of anger.
He sidestepped, but Yūto's fist adjusted its trajectory even faster, driving precisely toward his chest.
With this blow, his chakra flowed several times more smoothly than before, without the slightest waste, yet its speed and power had not diminished at all!
Bam!
His fist slammed solidly into the arm the Elder raised to block, the force even driving him back half a step.
Surprise flashed in the Elder's eyes, followed by a satisfied smile. "Not bad. That punch... passes."
Yūto froze, looking down at his fist.
Only then did he realize that, in his anger, he had somehow stumbled into precise chakra control.
"When did you awaken your Sharingan?"
The Elder looked into Yūto's eyes and asked in puzzlement.
As far as the Elder remembered, hadn't Yūto always been a bottom-of-the-class student who hadn't awakened his eyes? How had he suddenly awakened his Sharingan?
And it was even a two-tomoe Sharingan. How strange.
Over the past few decades, every Uchiha had started with a one-tomoe Sharingan. Could Yūto actually be a genius?
The Elder's words utterly stunned Yūto.
I'd awakened my eyes?
When did that happen?!
I'm done for, I'm done for! It's even a two-tomoe Sharingan. My strength has jumped a whole level. Now even more people in the ninja world can kill me.
Don't tell me I'll actually survive when I go to the battlefield later.
My compensation money!
Watching Yūto laugh and cry, the Elder suddenly felt a twinge of pity. Had I been too heavy-handed...?
Although he had never seen anyone train a disciple this way, he felt this training shouldn't be too excessive.
I haven't really tormented Yūto into an idiot, have I?
"Yūto-kun!"
It was Tsukimi's voice. When she arrived at Naka Shrine carrying the lunch she had carefully prepared, she saw Yūto slumped on the stone steps, his clothes soaked with sweat and several burn marks on his arms.
Her pupils abruptly contracted, and she nearly dropped the lunch box.
Tsukimi hurried to Yūto's side and tenderly supported his swaying body, then turned to glare at the Elder. "Grandpa, how could you train Yūto-kun like this?! He's only just been discharged from the hospital!"
The Elder gave a light cough and looked up at the sky. "Time certainly flies. It's already noon."
Tsukimi bit her lip, her eyes reddening.
She carefully wiped the sweat from Yūto's forehead with her sleeve, her voice choked with tears. "Look at him! He can barely even stand!"
Somewhat embarrassed by his granddaughter's rebuke, the Elder explained guiltily, "A ninja's training is hard by nature..."
"That doesn't mean you can train someone to death!" Tsukimi interrupted, her Three-Tomoe Sharingan appearing unconsciously. "Yūto-kun isn't your enemy!"
Yūto weakly tugged at Tsukimi's sleeve, wanting to persuade her not to talk back to the Elder, but she firmly held him still. "Don't move! Eat something first and get your strength back."
She opened the lunch box, and its aroma immediately wafted out.
Smelling it, Yūto couldn't help swallowing. Tsukimi's lunch was nothing like Nonō's culinary disasters. Just the smell made it seem delicious.
Besides, after an entire morning of hellish training, Yūto had long since become ravenous.
Tsukimi carefully picked up a piece of tamagoyaki and held it to Yūto's lips, her voice gentle. "Ah-open wide."
The tips of her ears reddened, her gaze wavering as she dared not look straight at Yūto. Her Three-Tomoe Sharingan had already faded, leaving only a young girl's shyness.
Yūto instinctively reached to take the chopsticks, but Tsukimi moved them away.
"You're injured, so behave and let me take care of you!"
She pretended to be angry, but her chopsticks shook so badly that the tamagoyaki nearly fell onto the front of Yūto's clothes.
"I can do it my-"
Before Yūto could finish, Tsukimi suddenly stuffed the food into his mouth, her fingertips accidentally brushing his lips.
Tsukimi's face instantly turned bright red, and even her neck flushed pink.
"Y-you idiot! Don't spit it out!"
Flustered, she picked up an octopus-shaped sausage, but her hand shook so badly that it dropped onto Yūto's trousers with a plop.
Yūto looked at the grease stain on his trousers, then at Tsukimi, who was on the verge of tears, and sighed helplessly. "Tsukimi-chan, you're even scarier than the Elder's special training..."
Beside them, the Elder stood with his arms folded, the corners of his mouth twitching.
His granddaughter's clumsy yet sweet manner as she fed Yūto reminded him of his late wife when she was young.
The Elder shook his head helplessly. You really can't keep a grown daughter at home. This boy stole that girl's heart long ago...
Only after Tsukimi had fed Yūto the entire lunch did the Elder speak:
"Break's over, boy. Time to get back to training!"
Yūto was dumbfounded. This training was going to last all day?!
Before you continue
