After their eyes met for several seconds, Nagato frowned, then turned his head away and stopped looking at Yūto.
Just then, Yahiko, who had finished making the other arrangements, walked over carrying two plates.
"Come on, don't just look. Try some specialties from our Land of Rain!"
Yahiko enthusiastically set the plates on the table in front of Yūto and Tsukimi. Following the direction Yūto had been looking, he spotted Nagato in the corner and immediately said:
"Nagato, come over and say hello. These two are guests who have come all the way from Konoha, Mr. Uchiha Yūto and Miss Uchiha Tsukimi."
Nagato stiffened, but did not move right away or raise his head. He simply remained seated with his head lowered.
Seeing this, Yahiko quickly walked over to Nagato and reminded him in a low voice, "Nagato, where are your basic manners? Hurry up and say hello!"
At Yahiko's urging, Nagato raised his head with extreme reluctance. His gaze swept over Yūto and Tsukimi, and he said in a low voice, "Hello."
There were two main reasons Nagato was unwilling to greet them.
One was their earlier exchange of looks. Yūto's gaze had put him under tremendous pressure, instinctively making him feel threatened and wary.
The deeper reason was his childhood trauma.
His parents had died at the hands of Konoha Ninja.
Greeting Konoha Ninja, the very source of his hatred, was a form of torment for him.
As soon as Nagato finished speaking, he buried his head again.
"I'm sorry. That's just how he is, rather introverted. Please don't mind him."
Yahiko hurried to smooth things over, an awkward smile on his face. "Come on, everyone, sit down and eat. Try our food."
Everyone began eating, each preoccupied with their own thoughts.
The food was simple, but filling.
