Background

Tang San was formerly a Tang Sect disciple who had mastered the sect's hidden-weapon arts, including the creation of the Wrath of the Buddha Tang Lotus. He retains the Tang Sect's techniques, combat methods, and business knowledge after arriving in Douluo. 128 177

At Notting City, he protects Old Jack from the academy doorkeeper by tripping the man, striking his abdomen, and preparing a sleeve arrow aimed at his throat. Yu Xiaogang intervenes and brings Tang San into the academy. 4

Yu Xiaogang recognizes Tang San's Twin Martial Souls and recruits him as a disciple. Tang San accepts after Yu Xiaogang demonstrates knowledge of his secret. 5 At Dorm Seven, Tang San defeats Wang Sheng with close-combat technique and accepts the role of protector for the work-study students. 6

His heritage as a Clear Sky Sect descendant and wielder of the Clear Sky Hammer becomes public after Titan pressures him. Tang San learns that Tang Hao is his father and had secretly watched over him. 143 170

Appearance

Following his Seventh Soul Ring absorption, Tang San's body visibly mutates: his skin turns red, green flames emerge around him, and his appearance becomes markedly more eerie. 332

  • Bears the Eight Spider Lances, an External Soul Bone originating from a Man-Faced Demon Spider. 143
  • Carries a parasitic mark on his glabella placed by the Slaughter King. 331
  • Later chooses to reveal his altered “true face” after his Martial Soul evolves further. 339

Personality

Tang San is intelligent, adaptive, and highly driven by cultivation. He can quickly assess combat situations, employ Tang Sect techniques without Martial Soul support, and negotiate carefully to preserve control over his hidden-weapon craft. 128 316

He is also intensely possessive of his interests and increasingly vengeful toward Yang Yunhai. His resentment worsens after repeated defeats and revelations concerning the Clear Sky Sect, eventually motivating assassination plans and a determination to gain power by any means necessary. 129 274

His pursuit of strength progressively erodes his restraint. Tang Hao warns him that devouring poison and life force through his Martial Soul and Eight Spider Lances risks branding him a Fallen Soul Master. 235 Tang San ultimately kills Tang Chen, clears Slaughter City, and murders Yu Xiaogang to fulfill the Rakshasa God's trials. 336 339 340

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, a rare Twin Martial Soul combination. 143

  • Yu Xiaogang and Tang Hao initially direct him to cultivate Blue Silver Grass first, using animal-type Soul Rings to strengthen his body for future Clear Sky Hammer rings. 170 171
  • Tang San later shifts his focus toward cultivating the Clear Sky Hammer for Slaughter City. 329
  • His Blue Silver Emperor bloodline is largely reclaimed by a higher-bloodline Blue Silver Emperor, severely restricting the potential for his Blue Silver Grass to awaken or reach its former ceiling. 169

Poison Erosion Grass

Tang San's Blue Silver Grass mutates after absorbing his Seventh Soul Ring, becoming Poison Erosion Grass. 332 333

  • Produces highly corrosive poison and venomous thorns capable of area attacks. 315
  • Its poison attribute is strengthened through repeated absorption of poisonous Soul Beasts. 274 315
  • Develops the Poison Erosion Domain after the Martial Soul evolves. 332
  • His increased devouring ability lets him absorb cultivation and vitality, but this conduct contributes to his Fallen Soul Master reputation. 178 235

Eight Spider Lances

An External Soul Bone that enhances Tang San's body and can absorb poison, energy, and life force. 143 178

  • Fully fuses with his body under Titan's pressure. 143
  • Evolves after draining poison from Soul Beasts, increasing both its physical amplification and toxicity. 190 274
  • Enables the absorption of energy from defeated opponents. 178
  • Its use to devour poison and life force exposes Tang San to accusations of Fallen Soul Master practices. 235

Hidden Weapons and Tang Sect Arts

Tang San uses hidden weapons and inherited Tang Sect secret arts in combat, crafting, stealth, and infiltration. 4 316

  • Uses a sleeve arrow as a lethal threat at Notting Academy's entrance. 4
  • Manufactures and sells hidden weapons while retaining exclusive control over final assembly. 128
  • Produces human-skin masks using Tang Sect disguise knowledge. 274
  • Uses the Gate of Opening lock-picking technique to steal Slaughter City's blueprints from Tang Yuehua's Soul Tool. 293
  • Defeats the Black Armor Knight in Slaughter City without relying on his Martial Soul or Soul Skills. 316

Soul Skills

  • Entangle — First Soul Skill; creates Blue Silver Grass vines to restrain targets, though Yang Yunhai cuts through it with a vine spear. 164
  • Spider Web Restraint — Third Soul Skill; spreads vines into a net to trap multiple opponents. 187
  • Blue Silver Poison Mist — Fourth Soul Skill gained from the 6,200-year spider ring; releases poison through his vines. 187
  • Spider God Possession — A powerful amplification skill obtained from a 16,000-year Man-Faced Demon Spider; enhances all abilities but consumes substantial Soul Power. 274
  • Poison Transformation — Head Soul Bone skill gained after killing the Death Demon Spider. 315
  • Poison Erosion Domain — Domain ability awakened with the evolution into Poison Erosion Grass. 332

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Hidden weapons — Includes sleeve arrows and the King of Hell's Summons. 4 315
  • Flying God Claw — An auxiliary grappling tool; Tang San distinguishes it from his offensive hidden weapons. 128
  • Eight Spider Lances — External Soul Bone with devouring and poison-enhancement properties. 143 274
  • Head Soul Bone — Obtained from the Death Demon Spider; grants Poison Transformation. 315
  • Human-skin masks — Disguises made with Tang Sect methods during his journey with Tang Hao. 274

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father and trainer. Tang Hao secretly watches over Tang San, guides his cultivation, tempers his body, and later dies, becoming the focus of Tang San's vengeance. 170 235 280
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and first mentor in Soul Master cultivation. Tang San initially trusts him deeply, then comes to view him as someone who used him for experimentation and kills him for the Rakshasa God's fourth trial. 5 170 339 340
  • Xiao Wu — Close companion who leaves for the Star Dou Great Forest for her safety; Tang San remains determined to protect and locate her. 235 340
  • Tang Chen — Great-grandfather and the Slaughter King. Tang Chen passes down Clear Sky Sect ultimate techniques before Tang San kills and absorbs him to complete the second Rakshasa trial. 331 336

  • Ma Hongjun — Shrek teammate who offers Tang San his loyalty after learning of his Clear Sky Sect heritage. 143
  • Slaughter King — Initially controls Tang San through parasitism and forces him into service; later revealed to be Tang Chen. 331 332
