Background / History
Yu Xiaogang originated from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Family. His Martial Soul mutated, but his father continued supplying cultivation resources and helped him obtain two optimal-age Soul Rings. He reached level 29 before turning twenty, then apparently left the family after becoming unable to break through to level 30. 10 11
After separating from his former companions, Flender and Liu Erlong, Yu Xiaogang lacked the personal strength to safely enter Soul Hunting Forests. He joined Notting Academy, where he collected students' Martial Soul data and developed Soul Master theories. 11
At Notting Academy, he initially considered Yang Yunhai—whose Martial Soul was Blue Silver Grass and whose innate Soul Power was only 0.5—to be a “useless Soul Master” with limited prospects. Yang's later breakthroughs repeatedly contradicted this judgment. 4 9 11 17
Yu Xiaogang recognized Tang San's Twin Martial Souls from his proof document, accepted him as his direct disciple, and became deeply invested in developing Tang San into a powerful Soul Master. 5 11
Personality
Yu Xiaogang is confident in his theoretical knowledge and places great value on exceptional aptitude, disciplined cultivation, and proving his teachings through successful students. He regarded Tang San's talent and progress as validation of his own ability as a teacher. 9 94 104
He can be dismissive of people he judges untalented, as shown by his early treatment and assessment of Yang Yunhai. After learning of Yang's Martial Soul evolution and rare treasure, he viewed the opportunity as squandered on someone with low innate Soul Power. 9 105
His concern for Tang San is intensely paternal. He describes Tang San as his son and risks confronting Pope Bibi Dong to protect him. 212

Soto City and the Heaven Dou Battle Team
As Shrek's leader, Yu Xiaogang accepts a central-arena team battle against the Heaven Dou Battle Team. He frames the dangerous match as a valuable tempering opportunity and directs Tang San not to surrender until the final moment. 93 94

Yu Xiaogang continues directing Shrek through the competition, but several of his tactical judgments are criticized after defeats against major academies. 180 217
He protests Blazing Academy's actions after Tang San's team is defeated, accusing them of attempted murder; Huo Wu refutes the accusation. 180
He later collapses after Yang Yunhai diagnoses Yu Tianheng with serious long-term physical strain, including damage severe enough to likely prevent Yu Tianheng from reaching Soul Sage. 233
Spirit City Confrontation
Yu Xiaogang enters Spirit City using an Honorary Elder Token and asks Bibi Dong for the method she used to overcome the difficulty of Twin Martial Souls, intending to help Tang San. 212

Death
After Tang San returns years later, Yu Xiaogang initially welcomes his disciple. Tang San instead announces that he has come for revenge and kills Yu Xiaogang with a burst of Soul Power, reducing his body to blood mist. 340
