Waiting for the right moment
Lu Heng led the Bone Demon to the desolate outskirts outside the Military District camp.
Ordinary Zombie roamed everywhere, their stench filling the air. To the naked eye, there were moving figures all around, making it impossible to find the Silver Tier Zombie that had received the fragment's fortune—it was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Lu Heng did not rush forward.
With a thought, the Mycelium of the Blood Taisui within his body spread out along the ground, with wisps of fine Mycelium penetrating into the ruins and crevices of the rocks, spreading out in all directions.
Blood Taisui's perception flowed through the Mycelium, filtering out the weak and chaotic energy fluctuations of ordinary Zombie, and specifically capturing that special energy unique to the Silver Tier, carrying fragments of fortune.
The target location was quickly locked.
Using the senses transmitted back by the Mycelium, Lu Heng was able to see the other party's situation clearly.
This Silver Zombie was extremely cunning, deliberately blending in with a large group of ordinary Zombie, disguising itself to be indistinguishable from the surrounding horde, hiding in the crowd to avoid being noticed. Several Bronze Tier mutated Zombie followed closely behind it, acting as guards, looking rather pretentious.
Its appearance can be disguised, but the energy originating from the World Fragment within it cannot be concealed and cannot escape the detection of the Blood Taisui.
The energy was fixed on the Military District camp not far away from beginning to end. It was still observing, waiting for the most suitable opportunity to devour the living people in the camp and complete its advancement.
Lu Heng did not rush forward to attack immediately.
He and the Military District camp had completely fallen out. If a fierce battle broke out here, the commotion would inevitably alert the survivors in the camp. He knew very well that if he fought this Silver Zombie to a fever pitch, he might be ambushed from behind by the military camp.
He didn't want to take that risk.
Lu Heng suppressed his urge to attack and led the Bone Demon to hide behind the ruins in the distance.
The daylight slowly faded, and the sun gradually sank in the west.
From daylight until nightfall completely enveloped the land, plunging the wilderness into darkness.
Just then, the Mycelium of the Blood Taisui showed unusual activity.
The Silver Zombie finally moved.
It silently broke away from the massive horde of corpses, shook off the few Bronze Tier guards behind it, and headed alone towards an abandoned high-rise building in the distance.
A cold glint flashed in Lu Heng's eyes.
The flaw has been revealed.
He gestured for the Bone Demon to remain silent, then followed closely behind at a safe distance.
The Silver Zombie walked straight into the abandoned building.
Lu Heng did not choose to break in through the main gate, as the open entrance would easily expose his whereabouts.
He activated the Blood Taisui Mycelium once more, and countless Mycelium wrapped around the exterior wall of the building, using the power of the Mycelium to climb upwards. The Mycelium enveloped his body, concealing his footsteps and his aura, and he silently slipped into the building through the window cracks.
They walked through without disturbing any of the monsters lurking inside the building.
Entering the building, Lu Heng used the dim light of the night to make out the scene inside.
This place was actually a cage where people were kept captive.
A large number of survivors were imprisoned in cubicles, huddled in corners, their faces filled with fear.
The Silver Zombie slowly walked to the cage and reached out to pick out several living people.
It stayed where it was, eating right in front of Lu Heng.
After finishing its meal, it exuded an almost contented languor.
There was also a Zombie dog inside the building, with Bronze Tier strength, responsible for guarding the prisoners.
The Silver Zombie raised its hand and stroked the Zombie dog's head, an action remarkably similar to a human owner comforting a pet returning home.
The Zombie dog didn't respond at all; it just stood there numbly, showing no affection whatsoever.
But the Silver Zombie seemed to have gotten used to this state and didn't care.
Lu Heng, hiding in the shadows, witnessed the entire scene.
A question popped into my mind.
Could it be that this Silver Zombie still retains a portion of its consciousness from when it was human?
The thought only flashed through my mind for a moment.
Lu Heng quickly suppressed this thought.
Thinking about these things is pointless.
Regardless of whether it retains any humanity, it should still be hunted.
He remained hidden in the darkness, his gaze fixed on the Silver Zombie ahead, his aura concealed to the extreme, waiting for the right moment to strike.
The entire building was deathly silent.
The survivors in the cubicle held their breath, their faint trembling barely audible, afraid to disturb the monster in front of them.
The Silver Zombie stood silently in place, motionless.
No one could see any change, and it itself was unaware of anything unusual.
Each time it devours the flesh and blood of a living person, a subtle and inexplicable sense of fullness arises deep within its body.
Very faint, hidden very deep.
Ordinary mutated Zombie cannot detect it, let alone humans.
Only the Blood Taisui within Lu Heng's body could detect this unusual fluctuation.
Hidden and unfamiliar, it lies deep within its body.
Lu Heng's eyes darkened slightly.
He doesn't understand the root cause, nor does he need to.
He only knew one thing—this Zombie was getting stronger abnormally.
The speed was extremely slow, but with each absorption, it silently accumulated a certain confidence.
If left unchecked, it will eventually undergo a complete transformation.
Breakthroughs into the unknown represent unpredictable dangers.
Lu Heng wouldn't gamble on his ability to handle the unknown.
They certainly wouldn't gamble on whether this monster might disappear into thin air in the future, leaving behind a bunch of unresolved problems.
His mind went blank for a moment.
The Bone Demon beside him tensed up, concealing all movement and lying in wait.
The Mycelium hidden in all directions tightened simultaneously, silently sealing off all exits of the entire floor.
Not a single breeze could get through.
The Silver Zombie ahead seemed to vaguely sense something.
Its empty gaze slowly rose, casually sweeping across the dimly lit floor.
No abnormalities were found.
It lowered its head, raised its hand again, and gently stroked the head of the Zombie dog in front of it.
Its movements were strange and slow, carrying an unusual quietness that belied its monstrous nature.
Lu Heng remained hidden in the shadows, his mind completely unmoved.
The time has come.
The next second, the thought suddenly fell to the ground.
