Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Bound natural cave — Frostforest Cave 9 Lu Heng binds the Frostforest Cliffside Cave as his exclusive residence. Its environmental safety rating is excellent, but binding provides no enclosure or defensive structures.
Basic safe shelter 10 Built using 30 standard logs. A timber barrier encloses most of the entrance, blocking cold winds, small animals, falling dust, and damp. It lacks a locking mechanism and protection against large predators.
Level-one stone-and-wood Shelter 20 21 Upgrading replaces the rough interior with fitted stone bricks and timber supports, enlarges the living space, reshapes the door, and adds ventilation and a separate latrine.
Advanced Shelter 50 Upgraded using building materials and a Black Iron-tier Water Soul Crystal. Gains a refrigerated ice cellar and a second level with a concealed escape opening.

Upgrade Requirements

Upgrade Documented requirements
Basic enclosed shelter 30 standard logs; loose branches and substandard timber are excluded 9.
Intermediate reinforced shelter Initially 30 stone + 20 standard logs; a later panel lists 30 stone + 30 standard logs 10 18.
Ordinary stone cave upgrade The panel lists 50 stone + 1 Black Iron material, with the special material determining the unlocked function 30.
Advanced → Black Iron-tier Shelter 250 units of general building materials, accepting stone blocks or hardwood, plus 1 Black Iron-tier special material 50.

Binding and Construction

  • One-time site selection: Shelter Binding Permission allows a survivor to select safe terrain for a permanent private residence. Lu Heng understands that the location cannot be changed after binding 2.
  • Binding is not construction: Claiming the cave unlocks its construction panel but leaves the natural recess exposed 9.
  • Standardized resources: Building timber must come from properly cut whole trunks and stumps; dead branches and thin branches do not qualify 9.
  • System-assisted assembly: Once the required materials are supplied and construction is confirmed, the system rapidly assembles barriers or reshapes the cave’s structure 10 20 50.

Layout and Defenses

Main Living Space

  • Stone-and-timber structure: The level-one upgrade creates tightly fitted stone-brick walls reinforced with solid wooden framing 20.
  • Apartment-like arrangement: The interior resembles a two-bedroom apartment with a living room, ventilation ducts, and a separate toilet area 21.
  • Cooking facilities: The standardized level-one upgrade provides no hearth. Lu Heng builds a simple stone-ring firepit himself 21.
  • Crafting area: A Basic Processing Table supports weapon production, including bone daggers 18 50.
  • Entrance protection: Lu Heng supplements the door with stones and heavy timber when monsters threaten the cave 41 48.

Advanced Shelter Additions

  • Second level: Dry, sheltered, and isolated from smoke produced by fires below 50.
  • Concealed opening: A slanting passage is narrow outside and broad within, making its exterior difficult to spot 50.
  • Emergency exit: The hidden opening provides daylight and ventilation while allowing escape if the main entrance is blocked 50.

Defensive Limits

  • The ordinary stone cave’s panel identifies its natural frozen-earth rock walls as indestructible, but its wooden windbreak door remains vulnerable to damage 30.
  • A Black Iron Cave-Nest Spider damages the entrance barrier while trying to force its way inside 29 30.
  • Before the Advanced upgrade, the single entrance is also the only exit. Lu Heng avoids retreating inside during the jackal encounter because being surrounded there would leave him no room to maneuver 31 50.

Facilities and Equipment

Dimensional Bedroom

Created from a blueprint obtained in the Bronze Treasure Chest awarded after Lu Heng defeats the Blue-Backed Jackal pack 33 34.

  • Exists as an independent, sealed space within the bound Shelter, unaffected by the main chamber 34.
  • Includes a finished bed, storage furniture, an enclosed bathroom, and a ceiling light 34.
  • Its bathroom connects to a natural underground water source described as clean and ready for direct use 34.

Energy Core

The Basic Energy Storage Unit, also called the Energy Core, supplies power to Shelter facilities 34.

  • Binds to both the Shelter and its dimensional bedroom through the Survival Bracelet 34.
  • Accepts energy materials such as mutant beast crystal cores and special ores 34.
  • Initially cannot operate the bedroom light because no energy material has been loaded 34.
  • Lu Heng later inserts a Black Iron-grade spider marrow crystal rated to fill storage to 100%, linking energy through the Shelter’s pipelines 35.

Constant-Temperature Refrigerated Ice Cellar

Unlocked by using the Water Soul Crystal in the Advanced Shelter upgrade 50.

  • Maintains a stable temperature of 2–6°C 50.
  • Slows oxidation, drying, and spoilage of meat, fruit, vegetables, and other ingredients 50.
  • Does not stop deterioration completely: food left for extremely long periods still becomes unusable 50.
  • An earlier ice-cellar module remains unbuilt for lack of ice-attribute ore; Lu Heng reserves the Water Soul Crystal for the main structural upgrade instead 38.

Other Acquired Equipment

Equipment Function Deployment
Water purification device Automatically filters incoming water, removing impurities and harmful microorganisms 38. Installation is reported after the Springwater Treasure Chest, though Lu Heng later lists installing the purifier among his priorities 38 41.
Spy Bug Connects to the energy core for surveillance. With an alert component, detects dangerous mutated creatures and provides alarms and real-time warning markers 44. Acquired; installation is not documented 44.
Portable Growing Box Insulated planting container suitable for cold-resistant edible plants, protected from outside snowstorms and low temperatures 44. Acquired; planting is not documented 44.

History

Establishing a Permanent Base

Lu Heng initially shelters in an earthen hollow, then finds a shallow cave at the forest’s edge. He insulates its floor with leaves and grass and screens the entrance with branches, but it remains a temporary refuge. His shelter binding is still incomplete when he begins gathering food in the forest 1 5 7.

After killing a venomous snake, he discovers and inspects a dry cliffside recess. Finding no signs of animal habitation, he binds it as Frostforest Cave. Gathering thirty standard logs allows him to enclose the entrance and establish his first system-recognized safe shelter 9 10.

Reinforcement and Repeated Attacks

Lu Heng gathers timber and stone for the level-one upgrade, which turns the cave into an organized stone-and-wood residence. The approaching regional cold wave makes fuel, food, insulation, and stronger defenses increasingly urgent 14 20 23.

The Shelter remains vulnerable at its entrance. A Cave-Nest Spider damages the door, and Cold Stiffs later follow Lu Heng’s scent back to the cave. After his fight with the Spotted Leopard, he returns exhausted, braces the door with timber, and falls asleep while Cold Stiffs continue battering it 29 30 41 48.

Advanced Upgrade

After obtaining the remaining materials, Lu Heng upgrades the residence with the Water Soul Crystal. The resulting Advanced Shelter combines food refrigeration with a concealed escape route, addressing both spoilage and the danger of being trapped behind a blocked entrance. He then sets his next construction goal: a Black Iron-tier Shelter 49 50.
