Chapters 26–50 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 26Level 2 Shelter

Tang Zhixue used his innate ability to fell Clear Spirit Trees and gather enough materials to upgrade Blazing Sun Shelter to level 2. After exploring its expanded interior and new protections, he tended his mutated plants and prepared to compare naturally formed Plant Vitality Crystals with those he produced.

  • Tang Zhixue repeatedly drained the vitality from a Clear Spirit Tree until it fell, then brought it and its remaining vitality into the shelter.
  • Tang Zhixue used plant vitality to help his transplanted mutated plants take root and grow, gathering enough materials to upgrade the shelter by noon.
  • Blazing Sun Shelter upgraded to level 2, gaining a larger structure, regional trading, a Martial Arts Space, and the Clear Spirit Evil-Repelling effect.
  • Tang Zhixue inspected the shelter's three rooms and main hall, noted that it lacked a toilet, and entered the planting room.
  • Tang Zhixue found ten Jade Flowers, five Water-Gathering Grass plants, five White Melon Vines, and 134 White Melons, then used divided portions of plant vitality to test whether the Jade Flowers would form crystals.
  • Tang Zhixue ate a White Melon and grimaced because he had grown nauseated from eating too many.

Ch. 27A lucky start

Tang Zhixue made a crude vine back basket so he could carry resources while hunting monsters beyond the Shelter. He killed five Rotting Living Corpses and found two Supply Cards, then set out to hunt more.

  • Tang Zhixue decided to make a basket before searching the woods for useful resources.
  • He gathered vines and wove a crude back basket, which an information panel identified as a First Tier item.
  • Tang Zhixue equipped himself with his Iron Axe, Wooden Bow, and arrows, then left the Shelter with the basket.
  • About a hundred meters beyond the Shelter's range, Tang Zhixue killed five Rotting Living Corpses with five arrows.
  • He collected two Supply Cards containing fresh water and potatoes, and realized the monsters did not always drop cards.

Ch. 28The One Who Reaped the Rewards

Tang Zhixue watched a Sharp-Horned Tiger and a mud-covered boar fight over an Orange-Yellow Fruit plant, then intervened with his bow to kill them both. Afterward, he noticed a card floating above each corpse.

  • Tang Zhixue found a clearing in the Silent White Fog where a Sharp-Horned Tiger and a boar faced off beside a plant bearing Orange-Yellow Fruit.
  • The boar charged the tiger, and the two beasts injured each other in a struggle among the trees.
  • Tang Zhixue prepared his bow and shot the tiger and boar in the eyes while they fought.
  • Tang Zhixue fired more arrows into their open mouths, killing both beasts.
  • Tang Zhixue noticed a card floating above each corpse.

Ch. 29Building Card

Tang Zhixue brought the two mutant beast carcasses back to Shelter and used a Building Card to convert the Planting Box room into a Planting Cottage. He learned how Knowledge Cards worked and gained the recipe for forging spirit-pattern iron.

  • Tang Zhixue collected a Building Card from the Sharp-Horned Tiger and a Knowledge Card from the Mud Boar, then devised a pole platform to haul both carcasses back to Shelter.
  • Tang Zhixue discovered that the frost-ash grass was a second-tier mutated plant that could dispel the silent white fog and improve resistance to it.
  • Tang Zhixue tore the Building Card in the Planting Box room, converting it into a Planting Cottage that could replenish soil fertility.
  • Tang Zhixue planted the frost-ash grass in the new cottage and returned to the main hall.
  • Tang Zhixue tore the Knowledge Card and learned that spirit-pattern iron was forged by combining ordinary iron with powdered metal-aspect energy crystals.

Ch. 30Trading Jade Flower seeds

Tang Zhixue dealt with the practical challenges of processing his mutated beast carcasses, then traded Jade Flower seeds to other survivors. He hoped their environments might yield platinum or other metal-attribute energy crystals, and ended the chapter with a haul of valuable goods.

  • Tang Zhixue decided to search for fresh water to process his mutated beast carcasses and looked in the trading box for a knife, but found no useful listings.
  • Tang Zhixue used a Supply Card to obtain potatoes, baked one, and stored half of the sack so the potatoes could sprout.
  • Tang Zhixue joined the regional chat, where survivors discussed cultivation manuals and the difficulty of obtaining energy for their Shelters.
  • Tang Zhixue offered ten Jade Flower seeds, explaining that the flowers could condense energy crystals used by Shelters.
  • Tang Zhixue traded the seeds to several survivors and gained valuable items while hoping to learn whether their environments could produce platinum or other metal-attribute crystals.

Ch. 31Bows and Arrows

Tang Zhixue learned new crafting knowledge, expanded his Shelter with a new room, and prepared to train his game-processing skills. He ended the evening enjoying his first baked potato.

  • Tang Zhixue traded for a hunting knife, books on game processing and bows and arrows, and a Room Expansion Card.
  • After reading the books, Tang Zhixue’s panel recorded bow and arrow crafting and game processing as uninitiated crafts.
  • Tang Zhixue used the Room Expansion Card to create a fifty-to-sixty-square-meter room, then placed a forge, firecloud stones, and rusty weapons inside.
  • Tang Zhixue moved his bed closer to the fireplace and dug a cooked potato from the ashes.
  • Tang Zhixue tasted the baked potato and quickly ate the whole thing.

Ch. 32Fortune and Misfortune Go Hand in Hand

Tang Zhixue learned that the Beginning of Spring event would bring the dangerous Junweng anomaly and a Biting Spring Granny who might reward him for leaving her homemade food. He ventured toward the Silent White Fog to butcher two beasts for a meal, only to find Junweng waiting nearby.

  • Tang Zhixue practiced processing the Thorn-Horned Mutant Tiger and Mud-Armored Boar in the Dream Space, raising Prey Processing to Proficient.
  • Tang Zhixue saw the event notice warning that Junweng would appear in the Silent White Fog and target perceived imbalances.
  • Tang Zhixue learned that Biting Spring Granny would visit each night and might leave a reward in exchange for food he had cooked and eaten that day.
  • Tang Zhixue took his hunting gear and an unused Supply Card outside so he could butcher the beasts and prepare food for Biting Spring Granny.
  • Tang Zhixue recited the mantra to disperse the fog, then spotted Junweng standing nearby and cautiously backed toward the Shelter.

Ch. 33Junweng

Tang Zhixue discovered that Junweng could not enter the Shelter’s area but could deflect and return his arrows, so he sought a way to attack it. After discussing the anomaly with others, he agreed to try Luo Hongcai’s Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation and Ritual Altar instructions.

  • Tang Zhixue fired three arrows at Junweng, which it corrected and sent back at him, and he dodged them.
  • Tang Zhixue returned to the Shelter and learned in the chat that others were also blocked by Junweng anomalies.
  • Tang Zhixue asked the others for ideas, and they discussed finding a nonphysical way to attack Junweng.
  • Luo Hongcai shared the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation and explained how to set up its Ritual Altar and form the hand seal.
  • Tang Zhixue said he would try the incantation while the others waited for news.

Ch. 34Greed knows no bounds

Tang Zhixue used the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation to destroy the Junweng apparition, then found a Supply Card that gave him a Balanced Pocket Watch. The watch could suppress stronger beings within ten meters, but only up to the second tier, leaving Tang Zhixue wishing its limit were higher.

  • Tang Zhixue arranged bamboo tubes as a makeshift Ritual Altar and recited the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation toward Junweng.
  • On his ninth recitation, Tang Zhixue’s altar lit up, and its power struck Junweng, whose piercing scream confirmed the attack had worked.
  • Tang Zhixue received a notice that Junweng had been slain but that his chance of encountering the apparition again that day had only been reduced.
  • Tang Zhixue found a glowing Supply Card where Junweng had stood and retreated into the Shelter before examining it.
  • Tang Zhixue opened the card and obtained a Balanced Pocket Watch that suppressed stronger beings within ten meters to his strength, provided they were no stronger than second tier.

Ch. 35Would that really work?

Tang Zhixue tested the stream he found in the woods, confirmed its water was ordinary but needed filtering and boiling, and butchered the Thorn-Horned Mutant Tiger and Mud-Armored Boar beside it. He preserved the hides with salt and carried the meat and bones back to the Shelter.

  • Tang Zhixue shared in the chat that he had obtained a second-tier item, while Fang Yunxi asked about using Mutated Beast fat to make oil lamps.
  • Tang Zhixue took his Balanced Pocket Watch into the woods and found a stream after dispersing the Silent White Fog with the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra.
  • Tang Zhixue brought stream water back to the Shelter and checked its information, which identified it as ordinary water that needed filtering and boiling before drinking.
  • Tang Zhixue hauled the Thorn-Horned Mutant Tiger and Mud-Armored Boar carcasses to the stream and drained their blood.
  • Tang Zhixue removed and salted the hides, separated and washed the meat and bones, kept the hearts, and discarded the other organs in the stream.
  • Tang Zhixue carried the processed hides, meat, and bones back to the Shelter.

Ch. 36Rotten Luck

Tang Zhixue learned that 26 more people had died despite the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Method, then tested the Martial Arts Space’s time acceleration. His Blazing Tiger Fist improved dramatically, but he discovered that his energy points had disappeared.

  • Tang Zhixue returned to the Shelter, checked the hides, meat, and bones, then grilled Mud-Armored Boar meat and cooked rice.
  • Tang Zhixue saw that the regional population had fallen to 212, and Yuan Lexian explained that people had killed Junweng outside their Shelters only to encounter new ones when they ventured out again.
  • Tang Zhixue ate the energy-rich boar meat and decided to practice in the Martial Arts Space instead of going outside.
  • Tang Zhixue activated the Space’s only time-flow option, 6:1, and practiced Blazing Tiger Fist with the Thorn-Horned Mutant Tiger in mind, rapidly increasing his proficiency.
  • Tang Zhixue left after an hour had passed, realized he had practiced for six hours, and found that his hundred energy points were gone.

Ch. 37Weird Erosion

Tang Zhixue advanced his Blazing Tiger Fist and began forging golden-pattern iron ore, but became so absorbed that he failed to renew his Shelter’s purification effect. When he discovered the Shelter was undergoing weird erosion, he recited the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation as a waterlogged monster approached.

  • Tang Zhixue saw that his energy had run out after an hour in the Martial Arts Space and noted that Blazing Tiger Fist had reached expert level.
  • Tang Zhixue cultivated plants in the Planting Cottage and produced ten Plant Vitality Crystals.
  • Tang Zhixue used Blazing Tiger Fist’s force-generating technique to forge golden-pattern iron ore in the forge room.
  • A waterlogged monster approached the Shelter as white fog began to engulf it, while Tang Zhixue remained unaware inside.
  • Tang Zhixue smelled a fishy odor, checked the Shelter panel, and discovered that weird erosion had begun after the purification effect expired.
  • Tang Zhixue began reciting the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation to repel the foul energy.

Ch. 38Unexpectedly Effective

Tang Zhixue discovered that reciting the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra while forging had imbued Golden-Pattern Iron with purification power. He used the resulting ingot to destroy the bloated-corpse creature attacking the Shelter, then inspected what it left behind.

  • Tang Zhixue recited the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra, but the Shelter remained under supernatural erosion as the creature outside howled.
  • While he continued reciting, the cooling iron ingot gained white patterns, and he identified it as Purification Golden-Pattern Iron.
  • Tang Zhixue opened the door and struck the bloated-corpse creature with his hammer, then hurled the ingot at it while reciting the mantra.
  • The ingot’s white light engulfed and burned the creature until it vanished, leaving a patterned iron ingot and black ashes.
  • Tang Zhixue confirmed that the Shelter’s supernatural erosion had ended and its energy had risen from 0 to 10, then examined the ingot and ashes.

Ch. 39Second-tier mutated plants

Tang Zhixue tried to secure the damaged Blazing Sun Shelter and grew three mutated trees from Clear Spirit Tree branches. He cultivated a Martial Arts Tree and a Spirit Clarity Tree, and the Martial Arts Tree produced ripe fruits that could create hostile clones.

  • Tang Zhixue found that the ash left by the weird entity had no special effect and worried about the hole it had left in his Shelter door.
  • A giant snake emerged from the stream and sent four bloated-corpse weird entities into the fog, avoiding the direction of Tang Zhixue's Shelter.
  • Tang Zhixue brought back logs to block the hole and planted Clear Spirit Tree branches beside the Shelter.
  • Tang Zhixue used Plant Vitality to grow a Mist Spirit Tree, a Martial Arts Tree, and a Spirit Clarity Tree, then moved the Martial Arts Tree into the Planting Cottage.
  • Tang Zhixue nourished the Martial Arts Tree and Spirit Clarity Tree until the Martial Arts Tree bore ripe fruits that could become hostile Martial Arts Clones.

Ch. 40This Is a Martial Arts Clone?

Tang Zhixue activated the Martial Arts Fruit and discovered that his martial arts clone would attack him without stopping. After the clone overwhelmed him with a bow and arrows that caused pain but left no wounds, Tang Zhixue prepared to fight it again.

  • Tang Zhixue used his blood to activate the Martial Arts Fruit in the martial arts space, creating a pitch-black martial arts clone.
  • The clone attacked Tang Zhixue, who countered with Blazing Tiger Fist and landed several punches before the clone blocked one of his blows.
  • The clone retreated, produced a pitch-black bow, and fired energy arrows at Tang Zhixue, striking him repeatedly.
  • Tang Zhixue realized the arrows caused intense pain but left no actual wounds, while the clone watched him in silence.
  • The clone's bow vanished and it charged again, so Tang Zhixue took up Blazing Tiger Fist's opening stance to continue fighting.

Ch. 41Second-tier Clear Spirit Tree

Tang Zhixue endured a brutal Martial Arts Fruit training session, then used plant vitality to grow a second-tier Clear Spirit Tree that blocked the Shelter entrance. He left food for the Biting Spring Granny despite doubting she could reach it, and ended the chapter with no way to know whether the offering would work.

  • Tang Zhixue fought the Martial Arts Clone until the Martial Arts Fruit's effect ended, improving his combat experience but becoming utterly exhausted.
  • Tang Zhixue recovered by absorbing plant vitality and planted five Clear Spirit Tree branches outside the Shelter.
  • Tang Zhixue nourished the branches until they merged into a second-tier Clear Spirit Tree that blocked the entrance and could resist second-tier and weaker strange entities.
  • Tang Zhixue remembered the Biting Spring Granny event and learned she would knock nightly, accept food he had cooked and eaten, and leave something in return.
  • Tang Zhixue left rice, grilled meat, and grilled White Melon in the gaps by the entrance, then replenished the Dream Space with a Plant Vitality Crystal.

Ch. 42Master-level!!!

Tang Zhixue reached master-level proficiency in the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra, extending the Shelter’s purification effect to twelve hours. In the Dream Space, he began testing how the mantra could enhance his forging of golden-pattern iron.

  • Tang Zhixue recited the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra by the fireplace, dispersing foul qi and driving the strange evil demons away from the Shelter.
  • Tang Zhixue sensed clear and turbid qi around him and realized the mantra drew clear qi from heaven and earth to purify its surroundings.
  • Tang Zhixue raised the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra to master level and discovered that its temporary purification effect lasted twelve hours.
  • Tang Zhixue fell asleep and entered the Dream Space, where he brought out the Forging Furnace and purified golden-pattern iron ore.
  • Tang Zhixue recited the mantra as he heated and hammered the iron, channeling clear qi into it to strengthen its purification.

Ch. 43What Was There to Be Picky About If It Filled His Belly?

Tang Zhixue gained forging and mantra proficiency, then found that Biting Spring Granny had accepted his food and left him a Warm Spring Pearl. After replenishing the Shelter’s energy and discovering the Silent White Fog had receded farther, he wondered whether upgrading his unusual Blazing Sun Shelter would change anything.

  • Tang Zhixue saw that forging had greatly increased his Blazing Tiger Fist, forging, and Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra proficiency.
  • Tang Zhixue found that Biting Spring Granny had taken the food and left him a Warm Spring Pearl and a note asking him not to leave leftovers next time.
  • Tang Zhixue used Vitality Absorption on the Second Tier Clear Spirit Tree, created twenty Plant Vitality Crystals, and spent them replenishing the Shelter’s energy.
  • Tang Zhixue found that the Silent White Fog had receded to a twenty-meter radius and saw no sign of the Junweng anomaly.
  • Tang Zhixue considered whether leveling up his Blazing Sun Shelter would cause changes, then returned inside to cook breakfast.

Ch. 44Here They Come Again

Tang Zhixue strengthened the Shelter’s defenses and worked toward its next upgrade, then encountered Giant View Weirds gathering in the fog. After they withdrew, he prepared for Biting Spring Granny’s visit and wondered whether the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra could be combined with tanning hides.

  • Tang Zhixue broke off Clear Spirit Tree branches, planted them around the Shelter, and used plant vitality to grow them into trees.
  • Tang Zhixue discovered that the Shelter could be upgraded again, but the new requirements called for a hundred ten-meter Spirit Clarity Tree trunks; he also noticed its door god protection effect had disappeared.
  • Tang Zhixue spent the day gathering materials, then recited the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra outside until its light faded and its proficiency increased.
  • Tang Zhixue heard wet footsteps and saw several Giant View Weirds pacing at the edge of the fog before retreating into the woods.
  • Tang Zhixue blocked the Shelter’s entrance with Spirit Clarity Tree trunks, left grilled meat for Biting Spring Granny, and reminded others in the chat channel to improve their Shelters’ purification effects.
  • Tang Zhixue began reciting the mantra again, then wondered whether he could combine it with tanning animal hides as he did with forging.

Ch. 45A Half-Finished Product

Tang Zhixue used the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra to purify and soften two animal hides, then began tanning them with wood ash. He left both hides rolled up to stabilize overnight, awaiting the finished results.

  • Tang Zhixue submerged the tiger hide in fresh water and used the mantra to draw impurities from its fibers.
  • The tiger hide became soft, clean, and silver-patterned, and its item description identified it as a half-finished Spirit-Patterned Tiger Hide.
  • Tang Zhixue learned about tanning and stabilization, rubbed wood ash into the tiger hide, and left it rolled in a cool, ventilated place.
  • Tang Zhixue purified the boar hide in the same basin, then treated it with wood ash and left it beside the tiger hide.

Ch. 46A Few White Melons as a Small Token

Tang Zhixue discovered that the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra had transformed his oil lamp and helped him tan hides, then advanced his Blazing Tiger Fist to Master level through forging in the Dream Space. The next morning, he inspected the treated hides and rinsed them for further use.

  • Tang Zhixue found that his oil lamp had become a Clear Radiance Oil Lamp and sent Luo Hongcai ten White Melons to thank him for the Pure Heaven and Earth Divine Mantra.
  • Tang Zhixue forged Purification Golden-Pattern Iron in the Dream Space while reciting the mantra and advanced Blazing Tiger Fist to Master level.
  • Tang Zhixue checked his personal panel in the morning and noted that his mantra continued to gain proficiency quickly while his Master-level fist technique progressed more slowly.
  • Tang Zhixue inspected the Spirit-Patterned Tiger Hide and Spirit-Patterned Pig Hide, recognized the mantra's benefits for tanning, and rinsed and wrung out both hides.

Ch. 47And That Was It?

Tang Zhixue discovered that Biting Spring Granny’s Building Card had installed a Modern Toilet in his Shelter, though it only contained a squat toilet and sink. After breakfast, he found Junweng outside amid Giant View Weird corpses and contacted Fang Yunxi to ask about oil lamps.

  • Tang Zhixue finished drying the hides, cleared Spirit Clarity Tree trunks from the doorway, and found a Building Card from Biting Spring Granny.
  • Tang Zhixue tore the card and found the Modern Toilet listed on his Shelter panel, then discovered its new door inside the bedroom.
  • Tang Zhixue inspected the toilet’s squat toilet, sink, and drain, and decided he could use it for washing once he obtained a way to heat water.
  • Tang Zhixue went outside after breakfast and saw Junweng standing beyond a gap in the Silent White Fog, surrounded by Giant View Weird corpses.
  • Tang Zhixue went back inside, considered using his bamboo tubes and oil lamp, then messaged Fang Yunxi to ask whether she had any oil lamps left.

Ch. 48Upgrade

Tang Zhixue used seven oil lamps to cast the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation and killed Junweng again, obtaining an Imbalance Arrow. He finished preparing 100 Spirit Clarity Trees and upgraded Shelter: Blazing Sun, whose transformation was still unfolding as the light faded.

  • Tang Zhixue bought seven oil lamps from Fang Yunxi and arranged them to cast the Big Dipper Ghost-Slaying Incantation, which struck Junweng outside the Shelter.
  • Tang Zhixue found an Imbalance Arrow, a second-tier item that reversed a creature’s bodily movements for five minutes after it was struck.
  • Tang Zhixue cultivated the Clear Spirit Tree Wall until it formed a second-tier barrier around the Shelter, then continued growing Spirit Clarity Trees.
  • Tang Zhixue used the final Spirit Clarity Tree to meet the upgrade requirement and commanded Shelter: Blazing Sun to upgrade.
  • A bright blue light engulfed the Shelter and tree wall as the ground and wood shifted, but the transformation’s result had not yet been revealed.

Ch. 49That shouldn't be...

Tang Zhixue explored his newly upgraded level 3 Blazing Sun Shelter, discovering its treehouse layout, new tranquility effect, and glowing vines. While checking his personal information over lunch, he realized his forging skill had barely advanced and suspected he needed to forge an item to improve it.

  • Tang Zhixue found his wooden house transformed into a treehouse and watched vines form stairs to its entrance.
  • He explored the spacious shelter and learned it had gained the Spirit Clarity Tranquility effect, which improved concentration and could occasionally inspire sudden insight.
  • Tang Zhixue found the expanded Planting Cottage, an upstairs bedroom, storeroom, and forge, and complained that the storeroom was inconveniently located upstairs.
  • He discovered Glowing Parasitic Vines throughout the house and found he could control their lights with spoken commands.
  • While eating lunch, Tang Zhixue checked his personal information, noticed his Basic Forging proficiency had barely increased, and wondered if he needed to forge an item to improve it.

Ch. 50Why Was There Another One???

Tang Zhixue discussed Shelter upgrades with the regional chat and left to test whether forging in the real world increased his proficiency. In the woods, he found fresh tracks that smelled like the Giant View Weird and wondered why another one had appeared after the Junweng Weird killed one that morning.

  • Tang Zhixue suspected that forging proficiency only increased when he worked in the real world and planned to test his theory.
  • Tang Zhixue told the regional chat that his Shelter had reached level three, described its new lighting plant, and advised others to upgrade their Shelters.
  • Tang Zhixue left his Shelter to gather Clear Spirit Wood and test his forging proficiency.
  • Tang Zhixue found fresh, fishy-smelling wet patches in the woods near where he had killed the Junweng Weird’s prey that morning.
  • Tang Zhixue wondered why another Giant View Weird had appeared after the Junweng Weird killed one earlier.
