Spirit City stood on the border between the Heaven Dou Empire and the Star Luo Empire and was one of the most prosperous cities.
In an inn in the city, a young man in formal black clothes was drowning his sorrows in drink. He was none other than Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang.
"Why..."
"Why didn't you come?"
Yu Xiaogang reeked of alcohol, his face flushed. He was a little drunk.
People passed to and fro around him, glancing at him before looking away. No one knew the anguish in his heart.
He, Yu Xiaogang, the grandmaster of theory, had waited outside Spirit Hall for five whole days, yet that lovely figure had never appeared.
The anxiety of waiting for a lover was simply unbearable.
"Dong'er, aren't you Spirit Hall's Saintess? If you gave me a token, I could go straight in to find you." Yu Xiaogang clenched his fists, his face full of frustration.
Over the past few days, Yu Xiaogang had spent so long lingering outside Spirit Hall while waiting for Bibi Dong to meet him that he had inadvertently drawn the guard captain's attention.
Those guards were crude. They grabbed him and gave him a savage beating without another word. No matter how he explained that he knew the Saintess, it was useless. Instead, they only beat him harder.
"A level-29 piece of trash like you thinks he's worthy of knowing Her Highness the Saintess?"
At the thought of the guard captain's contemptuous words, Yu Xiaogang's expression darkened, frustration choking him.
That was right. Yu Xiaogang knew perfectly well that he was trash, which was why he had tried every means to curry favor with Bibi Dong and win her over. Only then could he make use of Spirit Hall and find the resources to fix the defects in his martial soul.
Meanwhile, not far away.
Bibi Dong appeared, wrapped in white robes, with a light veil covering her face. She had clearly disguised herself before leaving Spirit Hall and was now watching Yu Xiaogang from the shadows.
"Xiaogang, are you drowning your sorrows here because I didn't come?"
Bibi Dong felt somewhat apologetic, but she did not approach him immediately. Instead, she found an ordinary-looking child on the street, took out a few gold coins, waved them before the child, and whispered a few words.
A moment later, the child beamed. "All right, I promise. But you have to give me the coins afterward."
"Go on."
At that, the child jogged toward Grandmaster, slowed for a few steps, then dropped to his knees with a thud, his voice somewhat timid.
"G-Grandmaster, I know you. You're the foremost theorist in the Soul Master World. I want to become your student. Would you accept me as your disciple?"
Yu Xiaogang frowned at having his drinking interrupted. "Who are you? Why should I accept you as my disciple?"
"Grandmaster, I'm just a child from an ordinary family. I don't have any outstanding talent, only a trash martial soul. But I've heard your soul master theories are second to none, so you must have a way to make me a powerful soul master. I beg you to accept me as your disciple."
After speaking, the child knocked his forehead hard against the ground, seeming utterly sincere. Even quite a few passersby were drawn to watch.
"Child, a soul master's cultivation isn't as simple as you imagine. With only a trash martial soul, you can never become a powerful soul master. Leave."
"Grandmaster, please accept me as your disciple."
"Go! Go! Go!" Yu Xiaogang waved his hand, growing impatient.
After studying martial souls for so long, he was already certain of this: someone with a trash martial soul could never become a powerful soul master, unless that person possessed another, powerful martial soul.
If such a person existed, he, Yu Xiaogang, would have to find a way to take them as his disciple. Only then could he prove his own name.
Soon, the child left and returned to Bibi Dong, then departed after receiving the gold coins.
"You once said there were no trash soul masters, only trash people. When I heard that, I thought you were different from everyone else. You were so captivating."
Bibi Dong watched the figure continuing to drown his sorrows, her expression complicated. "But now it seems even you look down on ordinary soul masters. Perhaps everything before was just an act for me."
At this moment, a rift had already formed in Bibi Dong's feelings toward Yu Xiaogang. The man she had believed shared her love did not seem to have as good a character as she had imagined.
"Dong'er?"
Meanwhile, following the direction in which the child had left, Yu Xiaogang suddenly spotted Bibi Dong. Overjoyed, he rushed over.
"You finally came out to see me! Do you know what these past few days have been like for me?"
As he spoke, the grievance on Yu Xiaogang's face was enough to grieve anyone who heard him and bring tears to anyone who listened.
Perhaps because he had been drinking, Yu Xiaogang seemed rather affected at that moment.
"Oh? Let's hear it."
Hearing her somewhat cold response, Yu Xiaogang was startled. In the past, whenever she heard him pour out his troubles, she would comfort him gently, nothing like this.
"Ahem, it wasn't really anything."
"Since we haven't seen each other in so long, why don't we find somewhere to sit first?"
Yu Xiaogang reined in his theatrics and reached for her delicate hand.
It had been so long since he had felt that touch, warm and soft as jade.
"Whatever you have to say, say it here." Bibi Dong shifted her graceful steps slightly, avoiding Yu Xiaogang.
"Dong'er?" Yu Xiaogang looked at Bibi Dong, his heart aching a little.
Her attitude was even colder than he had expected.
What on earth had happened?
Utterly bewildered, Yu Xiaogang asked her, "Dong'er, why didn't you come that day? I waited for you for so long."
He had proposed their meeting a few days ago, which was why he had waited there for five whole days.
"That isn't important."
Since it concerned Qian Xunji, Bibi Dong was unwilling to explain further. Instead, she asked, "But you specifically asked me out because you'd run into trouble, didn't you?"
After speaking, Bibi Dong kept her beautiful eyes fixed on Yu Xiaogang's. At that moment, she desperately hoped he would tell her.
That he had asked to see her because he missed her and wanted to be with her, rather than only remembering to seek her out because he had encountered trouble.
"Ahem, Dong'er guessed right again. I have indeed run into a little trouble."
"What trouble?"
"After extensive research, I've thought of a way to repair the defects in my martial soul. To try it, I'll need to use some of Spirit Hall's soul tools. Dong'er, could you help me with that?"
After hearing his words, Bibi Dong was deeply disappointed, her expression turning several degrees colder... Sure enough, her disciple was right. Yu Xiaogang's motives for approaching her were not pure. Even this time, he had sought her out to use her.
"Yu Xiaogang." Bibi Dong turned her head away in disappointment. Even her way of addressing him had grown cold.
"!!?"
"Let's leave things between us at this."
"Dong'er, what do you mean?"
"Dong'er, come back! What exactly do you mean? Are you leaving me? Tell me, what did I do wrong? I can change. Dong'er... Dong'er..."
Bibi Dong ignored him and walked straight away. Even as Yu Xiaogang shouted himself hoarse behind her, she never looked back.
Bibi Dong had never expected to come filled with hope and anticipation, only to return with disappointment and dejection. Still less had she expected the man she had once considered her first love to be such a person.
She was terribly upset.
She wanted to return to Spirit Hall and find her dear disciple to lift her spirits.
And so, that night.
In Xu Feng's room...
"T-Teacher."
"W-what are you going to do?"
Xu Feng cowered in a corner, trembling.
"Disciple, don't be afraid. Your teacher means no harm."
[Bullshit. Coming back this early, you must have run into something upsetting. And your feelings are written all over your face. You're obviously going to use me as your damn punching bag.]
[What kind of teacher are you? You bully your disciple at every opportunity. My life is so hard.]
Hearing Xu Feng's aggrieved inner voice, Bibi Dong acted as though she had noticed nothing. Who could blame her when her disciple was simply too cute and handsome? Then she proceeded to rub and knead Xu Feng's little cheeks.
Although Xu Feng was already fourteen, the effects of his Hongmeng Body made him look no different from an eight- or nine-year-old child, both handsome and adorably goofy.
