Appearance

Liu S sui retains an unassuming, farmer-like appearance even after becoming a prominent cultivator 472 951.

  • Youthful features: Straight brows, sincere eyes, and a dark complexion; at thirteen, his bearing had already become composed and mature 22.
  • Build: Described as thin and frail at fourteen, despite his exceptional swordsmanship 37.
  • Demon Core influence: Occasionally saw a bewitching red streak deep within his pupils after recovering from the Turbid Waters incident 75.
  • Undercover disguise: Deliberately cultivated an unkempt, ghostlike appearance through neglected hair, worn clothing, and sleeplessness before his expulsion 98 249.
  • Later appearance: An ordinary-looking middle-aged man by his confrontation with Monk of Joy 950 951.

Personality

Liu S sui is steadfast, diligent, and deeply loyal. Master Lü values not only his extraordinary aptitude but also his firm foundations and dependable character. His attachment to Jing Jiu survives repeated warnings that cultivation will separate their paths 10 16.

His morality rests on personal judgment rather than obedience alone. After losing his cultivation, he initially refuses a route to recovery because it involves evil arts. Later, while hunted as a demonic traitor, he saves two righteous-sect disciples who intended to claim the bounty on him, reasoning that they are not evil and therefore have no reason to die 108 109 213 214.

His apparent simplicity conceals considerable patience and intelligence. He deceives both Green Mountain disciples and the Never-Old Forest, studies concealed networks, and learns to recognize assassination plots. Years of secrecy make him unusually quiet; once he escapes Haizhou, his childhood talkativeness returns 232 236 249 493 541.

Loyalty does not erase his independence. He rejects Taiping’s attempt to define him through their shared hardships and insists that Jing Jiu has always allowed him to choose for himself 660.

History

Small Mountain Village and Green Mountain

Born Liu Baogen, he received the name Liu S sui from Jing Jiu after answering that he was ten years old. During Jing Jiu’s stay with his family, he taught the white-clad youth household tasks and watched him master them in nine days 5.

Master Lü recruited him into Green Mountain after recognizing his aptitude. Liu S sui hesitated over leaving his family and looked to Jing Jiu before accepting. At South Pine Pavilion, he advanced rapidly and passed the inner sect examination after a year 7 10 15 16.

Separation did not weaken his attachment to Jing Jiu. Gu Han punished him for approaching his former young master and ordered him to stop associating with him. Liu S sui nevertheless continued seeking Jing Jiu out while developing his swordsmanship 23 26.

He also became entangled in the investigation of Zuo Yi’s death. After Jing Jiu admitted responsibility to him, Liu S sui refused to explain his own movements on the relevant night, leaving himself under suspicion 30 56 285.

Demon Core Scandal and Expulsion

Following the Turbid Waters incident, Liu S sui returned unconscious and feverish. Shangde Peak imprisoned and harshly interrogated him over suspicions that he had swallowed the Ghost-Eyed Ling’s Demon Core. Although released without direct evidence, he lost his fellow disciples’ trust and Bai Rujing’s continued instruction 75 79.

At the Sword Trial, he fought Jian Ruyun and accused him of having tried to take the Demon Core. Sentenced to Sword Execution, Liu S sui escaped death after Zhao Layue objected and the Sect Master intervened. His cultivation was abolished instead, and he was expelled 97 98 100.

The disgrace also served a concealed mission: Twofold Forgetting Peak had selected him to infiltrate the Never-Old Forest. His angry denunciation of Jing Jiu was rehearsed, although he later admitted that some of the hurt behind it had been genuine 236 249.

He spent a month walking home, then gradually recovered enough strength to cook, repair the house, chop wood, and farm. For a year, he lived as an ordinary villager rather than immediately pursue recovery through demonic cultivation 107 108.

Never-Old Forest Infiltration

An old scholar from One-Thatch Studio challenged his belief that an evil cultivation method must necessarily serve evil purposes. Liu S sui eventually rebuilt his cultivation and entered the Never-Old Forest 109 211 283.

He joined Zhao Layue in killing Luo Huainan, believing Luo responsible for harming Jing Jiu during the Snowfield expedition. The Western Prince accepted that explanation and encouraged him to prove that peerless swordsmanship could be mastered outside Green Mountain 208 215 275.

Within the organization, Liu S sui served as the Western Prince’s clerk, studied its records, and planned operations using agents concealed among major sects and the Imperial Court. He demanded cultivation resources, a safe abode, and the right to choose his missions 215 231 232.

Little Lotus, who had been assigned to watch him, recognized him as Green Mountain’s spy. She helped him escape through tunnels prepared under Jing Jiu’s instructions. The sword concealed in her bracelet protected them during the pursuit, revealing that Jing Jiu had been watching over him 245 246 247 249.

His infiltration yielded crucial evidence and made him the greatest contributor to the destruction of Cloud Terrace. Nevertheless, his return to Green Mountain brought further investigations and resistance to Little Lotus remaining there 272 274 280 285.

Buddhist Study and One-Thatch Studio

His rebuilt cultivation combined Green Mountain swordsmanship, demon fire, Blood Demon methods, and Western Sea sword arts. Their incompatible systems threatened to rupture his meridians or destroy him outright 275 283.

He and Little Lotus settled in the vegetable garden outside Fruitful Accomplishment Temple to study Buddhist scripture. Yin San, appearing under the name Yin Fu, explained the text in accessible terms and guided him into meditation. The instruction improved his condition, although coughing and internal conflict later threatened to recur 292 293 298 299 417.

Liu S sui subsequently became Bu Qiuxiao’s personal disciple at One-Thatch Studio and learned the Way of Righteous Qi. Although nominally confined in Green Mountain’s Sword Prison, he traveled with senior figures’ tacit permission 472 540.

By the time of his confrontation with Chen Wen, he had become the Plum Gathering’s Dao Battle champion. He wounded the Kunlun elder, but Master Huiyuan intervened and killed Chen Wen, creating a trap intended to implicate Liu S sui. Zhuo Rusui protected him when Bai Qianjun attacked 540 541.

Dao Contest and Loyalty to Jing Jiu

Liu Ci sent him into the Dao-Seeking Assembly under the identity of a No-Grace Gate disciple to assist Jing Jiu. Within the Azure Sky Mirror’s illusion, he became a swordsman and palace guard, gradually forgetting his original life after finding Jing Jiu 374 377.

In the illusion, he used his own wounded body to hold Lord Mo’s sword in place, enabling the Netherworld Immortal Sword to kill him. Jing Jiu also discovered and removed a mark the Mirror Spirit had placed on Liu S sui’s soul 374 383.

Outside the contest, he continued attending Jing Jiu through injuries and periods of unconsciousness, tending gardens, brewing tea, and making or repairing bamboo chairs 417 433 663 725.

Taiping and Later Years

Taiping later claimed responsibility for arranging the Ghost-Eyed Ling, Demon Core, and Blood Demon method that had shaped Liu S sui’s life. Liu S sui rejected his reasoning and condemned his killing of villagers, especially children 660.

When Taiping attacked him and Little Lotus, a bone flute drove the Patriarch away. They reached One-Thatch Studio gravely wounded, where Xi Yiyun treated them. Liu S sui reported that Taiping had tried to control his mind 661.

After completing his studies, he kept watch beside Xi Yiyun’s grave for three years with Bu Qiuxiao’s permission. He later traveled overseas with Little Lotus to persuade Gu Qing to return, then resumed living in Fruitful Accomplishment Temple’s vegetable garden. After Little Lotus died, he buried her there rather than within the temple 953 954.

Beyond Chaotian

As an ascended cultivator, Liu S sui helped Zhao Layue’s group monitor powerful earlier Ascension Ones. Assigned to Monk of Joy, he defeated him, collected the dark matter spores he released, rescued surviving warship crew, and helped heal Zeng Ju 951 952.

The Solar System Sword Formation later injured him severely. At an ancient Martian base, Peng Lang dispersed the sword intent he had been suppressing so that he could recover 984.

Despite his extensive collection of treasures, Shen Green Mountain overwhelmed him with a look, damaging his equipment and nearly killing him before Zhao Layue intervened. Liu S sui survived and remained beside Jing Jiu as his body approached collapse 1005 1015.
