Following the flow of people, Huang Xiao headed toward the place where the Ranking Contest rules had been posted.
The Imperial City housed both the Imperial Court's palace and the seat of the supreme sect of the martial world.
The palace stood in the eastern part of the Imperial City, while the Heavenly Sword Sect stood in the west.
Between the two lay an immense, open square. Any major event in the Imperial City, whether involving the Imperial Court or the Jianghu, would be announced here.
Huang Xiao was in no hurry. He walked slowly with the crowd, taking a full hour to reach the square.
By then, however, he was rather late. The place was already a sea of people, with the crowd packed so tightly ahead that he could not see the posted rules at all.
Even posting them in several places had not helped. There were simply too many people, with heads jostling at every location.
Still, both the Imperial Court and the Heavenly Sword Sect had made preparations.
They had stationed people throughout the square in advance to read the rules aloud to the martial artists present. That way, even those who could not see the notices would not have much trouble.
Huang Xiao also heard what these people were saying, but he still wanted to read the original text.
And so, he began making his way through the crowd.
In fact, he was far from the only one. Quite a few other martial artists were doing the same.
