Background and History
Chu Zheng and the Ghost Marriage
Chu Xisheng’s identity is connected to Chu Zheng, the legitimate son of the Jingxi Chu Family’s Eldest Branch. After his mother died, his father resigned from office and died of grief six months later. The original owner of the body was subsequently bullied, controlled, and sent into a ghost marriage, suffocating inside a coffin 122 429.
Chu Ming later states that Emperor Jianyuan ordered the ghost marriage to Qin Muge and that all branches of the Chu Family agreed to sacrifice him. Chu Xisheng’s own investigation leaves the exact nature of his transmigration unresolved: the artifact involved would preferentially gather soul substance connected to Chu Zheng, making a complete separation between their identities uncertain 532 564.
Zhengyang Martial Academy
Living in poverty and poor health with Chu Yunyun, Chu Xisheng sought admission to Zhengyang Martial Academy. Ye Zhiqiu accepted his money, covered the remaining expense herself, and obtained Academy Master Lei Yuan’s approval for admission without examination. Her public praise also activated his system 1.
He cultivated both martial ability and reputation, explaining that the Formless Divine Sect’s advanced methods offered a chance to treat his condition and prolong his life. He became chief inner disciple and refused Shangguan Longjian’s demand that he surrender his opportunity in the True Inheritance Trial 64 94 100.
Secret Realm and True Inheritance Trial
The Linhai Zhou Family recruited him for a ninth-rank secret realm contest, providing protection and resources. He entered despite the danger because he wanted the Divine Origin Rejuvenation Pill. During the expedition, he absorbed medicinal power from a breached pool and awakened the Zangtian bloodline 95 104 135.
He later defeated Luo Li in the True Inheritance Trial without moving from his position, using wind blades and lightning. His rewards included Thunderclap, Luan Blood Inner Armor, and medicine for the fifth layer of Origin-Nourishing Art 181.
West Mountain Hall and the Iron Banner Gang
As West Mountain Hall master, Chu Xisheng became a major martial-world figure in Xiushui Commandery. His forces destroyed Wen Family Fort, routed commandery troops, razed Cloud Crane Manor, and forced the North-Guarding Dan Family to submit 193 204.
His standing expanded beyond Eastern Province after he escorted Zuo Qingyun’s family toward the capital. Reports credited him with joining the Ten Divine Talented Young Blades, defeating the capital’s Three Blades, and beating Mo Qilin with one slash 213 233.
Following the crisis at Mi Family Manor, he rallied the Iron Banner Gang against its enemies. He stormed the Clear Sea Gang’s stronghold and killed Lin Shi and Long Heng. He admitted afterward that he had been prepared for a confrontation ending either in the gang’s destruction or government amnesty 242 257 259.
Blood-Yazi Inheritance
The Formless Divine Sect selected Chu Xisheng as a Blood-Yazi Candidate. Though Chu Ming produced a stronger visible response during blood testing, informed sect members understood that the sect trusted him more 272 282.
In the Time Secret Realm, he challenged the assembled sect elites, rapidly developed his cultivation, and gained the Wooden Sword Immortal’s support. His final trial involved nearly four hours of combat with Qin Muge, after which he reached the Blood Maple’s summit 283 296 317.
He later revealed his Yazi bloodline against Gu Yuanchen, shattered the White Bone Yuanchen puppet, and beheaded him. Gu Yuanchen recognized him as the Formless Divine Sect’s Blood-Yazi Saint Inheritor before dying 368.
Opposition to Great Ning
Chu Xisheng’s concealed identity endangered everyone associated with him: he expected the Imperial Court to destroy the Iron Banner Gang if it learned he was Chu Zheng. Once that identity became public, Emperor Jianyuan’s determination to kill him intensified 429 484.
His political planning extended beyond defeating the emperor. He intended to remove the Iron Mountain Qin Clan’s entrenched elders so that they could not threaten a future dynasty. Chu Yunyun regarded this foresight as evidence that he possessed the makings of an emperor 512.
At Wang’an City’s Meridian Gate, he broke Yu Kunlun’s suppression, killed Yuwen Ba, injured other first-rank experts, and fought Yu Kunlun to a standstill. He withdrew when Zong Shenhua’s Sunflame Power approached 566.
Great Law Dynasty and the Final Calamity
As ruler of the Great Law Dynasty, Chu Xisheng enforced land, tax, and household reforms and suppressed resistance. He also mobilized national resources to support the creation of cultivation Battle Diagrams 607 659.
Against Rahū, he turned an attempted possession into a trap within his soul sea, using Wish-Fulfillment power and the Eastern Emperor Mirror to extract source essence stolen from humanity 676.
In the final battle, he confronted Destroy alongside White Emperor’s Son, Eastern Emperor, Zangtian, and other allies. While Chu Yunyun completed Heaven-Creation and restored the Heavenly Dao, he endured Destroy’s attacks and used Yazi’s Retribution to help wound the enemy. Destroy fled beyond the world, leaving Chu Xisheng in control of the remaining transcendent divine body 754.
Appearance
At his introduction, Chu Xisheng is tall and slender, with refined, handsome features and an unusually sickly pallor. Later transformations preserve his facial structure while making his beauty appear almost inhuman 1 340.
- Eyes: Long, narrow phoenix eyes that seem to hold laughter even when he is not smiling 1.
- Early complexion: Almost translucent skin without a trace of healthy color 1.
- Early clothing: Coarse cloth washed until it has faded white 1.
- Battle Diagram: Carries a Blood-Yazi Battle Diagram tattooed on his back 429.
- Concealed scales: Fine scales beneath his skin undergo reconstruction as his bloodlines strengthen 582.
Personality
Chu Xisheng combines public chivalry with calculated deception. His loyalty and righteous reputation attract followers throughout Eastern Province, but close observers recognize his fondness for hidden schemes. He wins one tournament match by cutting He Chao’s belt, forcing his opponent to fight while holding up his trousers 41 247 276 285.
His apparently effortless confidence can conceal anxiety. During the secret realm contest, he maintains an expert’s composure while privately fearing the danger; concern for his reputation even prevents him from changing to a safer route 106 113.
He is loyal to friends and conscious of debts. He protects Zuo Qingyun’s family despite the danger and treats Zhou Xiongba as an elder rather than accepting formal obeisance. His guilt over Tie Kuangren also strengthens his determination to gain enough power to prevent similar losses 213 319 429.
As a commander, he is pragmatic and capable of ruthlessness. He understands how material interests motivate soldiers and refuses mercy when he believes it will allow a threatening enemy force to regroup. Nevertheless, he prefers to befriend opponents without lasting hostility rather than accumulate unnecessary enemies 242 244 356.

- Divine Sorrow: Counters Giant Spirits and spellcasters and interferes with spells and divine arts, though its effect on Yu Kunlun proves limited 535.
Command and Statecraft
- Military leadership: Expands West Mountain Hall’s influence and assembles a force of 19,000 against Nine-Blade Stronghold 239.
- Political restraint: Avoids capturing Xiushui Commandery City when doing so would turn an uprising into open rebellion and unsettle his followers 244.
