Background / History

Parentage and upbringing

Lu Luanli was raised by Lu Chen, the rebel expert known as Saber and Sword Like a Dream, and grew up regarding him as her father. He told her little about her mother beyond saying that she had died in the year of Luanli’s birth. Uncle Dong remained close to her from childhood and knew her favorite dishes 143 183 600.

Her biological father was the deceased Crown Prince Li. Lu Chen privately confirms that she was the crown prince’s posthumous daughter, but insists that she has always been—and will remain—his daughter. His rebellion seeks revenge for the crown prince and their fallen comrades, not the restoration of Great Ning’s imperial succession through her 599.

Her name originated with a fortune-teller’s prediction that she possessed the fate of a “lone star after dawn,” destined for separation, loneliness, and wandering. Lu Chen laughed at the prediction and named her Luanli, meaning turmoil and separation 17.

Undercover at Zhengyang Martial Academy

Lu Luanli volunteered to infiltrate Zhengyang Martial Academy, where she posed as an ordinary East Court disciple. She described herself as a Leafless Disciple who had entered the inner sect three months before her early meeting with Chu Xisheng. Her actual Seventh-Rank strength and dual cultivation greatly exceeded that public identity 17 29 54 69 78.

Her assignment involved investigating Qin Muge’s God-Defying Banner and clues to Lie King’s Treasure. She copied Qin Muge’s materials without finding useful leads and later searched the Chu residence for the banner’s pole. Her father eventually instructed her to prioritize cultivation over the unsuccessful search 99 143 213 268.

Firebone Cavern and Chu Xisheng

Lu Luanli accompanied Chu Xisheng into Firebone Cavern to gather ingredients for the Origin-Nourishing Art. Her spirit sable found medicinal herbs and led them to the wounded Tie Xiaosheng. Although she objected to carrying an injured man through the Long Household’s blockade, she helped Chu Xisheng survive the expedition 25 26 31.

During a later visit, an information seller betrayed her to her enemies. She killed more than fifty White Cloud Stronghold fighters before being cornered, and severed a Seventh-Rank Bloodwind Bandit’s hand despite her injuries. Chu Xisheng carried her away and stood between her and the surrounding attackers; she lost consciousness while witnessing his counterattack 80 81.

Their relationship developed through repeated rescues and arguments. At Ancient Market Town, she used the dangerous Great Bright King Wheel while desperately trying to reach him, prompting Uncle Dong to warn that the technique could leave lasting injuries 167 170.

West Mountain and the Formless Divine Sect

Lu Luanli placed twenty-seventh in Zhengyang Martial Academy’s True Inheritance trial. After becoming a true inheritor, she considered taking an eighth-rank blue-robed chief constable post, but Chu Xisheng offered her work instead. She subsequently helped defend West Mountain Hall during his absence 180 191 213.

During the war against the Xiushui aristocratic families, she killed Long Nanshu and other attackers while concealing her identity. Her Peacock Slash killed a Lower Fifth Grade opponent in two strikes, but the backlash left her expecting more than ten days of recovery 244.

She later traveled north and climbed the Formless Divine Sect’s Heaven-Connecting Ranking. Initially content to advance quietly, she abruptly challenged Wei Shengliang and declared that she would hold the ring against opponents in the top hundred after learning that Chu Xisheng had moved into Heavenly Wave Residence 268 289.

Cloudsea inheritance and gang leadership

Lu Luanli’s command of Words Become Prophecy and Heavenly Punishment Divine Thunder helped her qualify for the Cloudsea Immortal Palace’s inheritance. She accepted Divine Ao Rogue Person as her master and received advanced spell methods, with the requirement that she continue cultivating the Way of Precepts and Laws 394 396.

By this period, she had recognized her feelings for Chu Xisheng and learned that Chu Yunyun was Qin Muge rather than his younger sister. Chu Xisheng later told her his former name, Chu Zheng, and explained that he and Chu Yunyun had died and been revived through the Six Yin Soul-Returning Incantation 396 399 400.

After losing a spar to Chu Xisheng, she returned to Cloudsea Immortal Palace, opened additional vaults, and obtained three Cloudsea Sword Puppets. She then accepted appointment as the Iron Banner Gang’s Deputy Banner Chief. The announcement unexpectedly completed her Heaven-Rending Secret Ritual, leaving her wondering how much disorder the gang contained 455.

Deputy Empress and the parentage plot

At the founding of the Great Law Dynasty, Chu Xisheng invested Lu Luanli as Eastern Palace Deputy Empress. Her position gave her a seat on the Imperial Terrace and the right to attend court ceremonies of any rank 599 604.

The ceremony coincided with rumors and an anonymous note revealing her connection to Crown Prince Li. She feared that Chu Xisheng had married her to secure the loyalty of Great Ning’s surrendered officials and generals. Her shaken state allowed Qiongqi’s power to influence her; Chu Xisheng removed Qiongqi’s blood and assured her that he wanted to marry her regardless of her ancestry 599 600.

Creation work and later battles

Lu Luanli continued accompanying Chu Xisheng into dangerous regions, including the Heavenless Black Prison. The journey drew out her potential until her senses and spiritual perception surpassed mortal standards 641 648 656.

In Guixu, she constructed the Mediation of Creation Array used in the revival of the Twelve Yellow Dragons. She later exhausted her True Essence creating a primordial world embryo for Zangtian’s rebirth 680 685.

During Ketu’s calamities, she took responsibility for the hurricanes over the Endless Ocean. With Azure Dragon Star Lord and the Dragon Clan covering the sea in clouds and mist, she split and redirected the storms with her saber. She later opposed Seven Killings Star Lord using her Transcendent Divine Delusion powers 718 732.

Appearance

  • Features: Delicate, picturesque brows and eyes, a finely shaped nose, and a youthful, energetic appearance; described as looking fifteen or sixteen during her Heaven-Connecting Ranking challenge 289.
  • Hair and ornaments: Black hair worn in a Wuman bun during an early appearance, with a rose-shaped hairpin and a rose gemstone between her brows. She also wears lily-shaped forehead ornaments 17 289.
  • Clothing motifs: Frequently coordinates floral jewelry with rose-, lily-, or lotus-patterned clothing 17 158.
  • Imperial attire: Wears a pheasant-patterned ceremonial robe and phoenix crown at her investiture. Her later court dress includes a phoenix-and-pearl kingfisher crown, rosy cape, and ruqun 599 604.

Personality

Lu Luanli is lively, talkative, and usually easygoing. Undercover life leaves her lonely enough that she talks almost continuously when she finds Chu Xisheng. She values personal comfort and cleanliness, paying extra for a private academy room and becoming desperate for a bath after days in Firebone Cavern 31 33 45.

Her loyalty can outweigh both caution and secrecy. She prepares to rescue Chu Xisheng from the Life-and-Death Arena even though doing so could expose her identity. She also worries about Uncle Dong’s injuries and resents Lu Chen drawing him back into dangerous work 54 143.

She combines exceptional perception with occasional carelessness. She detects disguised identities, hidden killing intent, and subtle changes in Chu Xisheng’s behavior, yet once disguises her face and clothing while forgetting her recognizable rose hairpin 37 54 69 158.

Her attachment to Chu Xisheng produces jealousy, embarrassment, and a persistent desire to surpass him. She throws away gifts from his admirers and repeatedly challenges him to spars, but a crushing defeat does not destroy her confidence. As the gap between herself and his other companions grows, she becomes willing to set aside pride and accept resources she previously would have refused 63 455 567.

Abilities & Skills

Dual Cultivation of Technique and Martial Arts

Lu Luanli cultivates martial True Essence and spell power together, despite their normal incompatibility 27.

  • Her innate talent lets her cast spells while wielding metal and use spell arts alongside martial True Essence 46.
  • An early simultaneous use consumes ten times her usual strength 46.
  • The dual path slows her realm advancement, but does not diminish her extraordinary comprehension 244 501.
  • She originally pursued it to master the Great Bright King Wheel and oppose Qin Muge’s Blood of Eternal Ages 363.

Great Bright King Wheel

Her signature saber art combines endlessly cycling elemental powers with illusion, disorder, and lethal force 366 449.

  • Cycles Geng Metal, Yi Wood, Gui Water, Li Fire, and Wu Earth 366.
  • Once mastered, continually replenishes True Essence and spell power 449.
  • Peacock Slash allows her to kill a Lower Fifth Grade opponent in two strikes while still at Sixth Grade Lower 244.
  • Before Fifth Grade, powerful applications damage her meridians and internal organs; that restriction disappears after her advancement 244 366.
  • Reaches its complete twenty-sixth layer, supported by Peacock True Intent centered on bewilderment, chaos, and slaughter 573.
  • Includes Disintegration, a Quasi-Divine ultimate move amplified by the Heaven-Rending Purple-Gold Hammer 574.

Dream and Illusion Arts

Dreams and illusions form the foundation of her cultivation, complementing her later studies in precepts and laws 396.

  • Enters Chu Xisheng’s dream and recognizes his imagined version of herself 386.
  • Uses seven-colored saber light to daze enemies and create openings for her sword puppets 469.
  • Uses Dreamlike Illusions to strengthen her Heaven-Crippled Divine Hands 634.
  • Pursues Dreams Made Real as a way to generate myriad arts from a single art 612.
  • Uses saber intent to confuse Qiongqi’s perception while Si Huangquan fights it directly 615.

Spell Arts and Precepts

Her spell repertoire includes control, reinforcement, thunder, and restrictive commands 27 46 54 364.

  • Wind and water control: Restrains enemy movement with turbulent air or currents 27 46.
  • Body reinforcement: Lightens her body and strengthens her physique before a planned rescue 54.
  • Words Become Prophecy: Seals an opponent’s True Essence and energy channels, though Chu Xisheng’s Law-Breaking Power immediately overcomes it 364.
  • Heavenly Punishment Divine Thunder: Masters the qualifying thunder art for the Cloudsea inheritance and receives its advanced Dharma Methods 394 396.
  • Hai Water Ice Thunder: Uses the Two Books of Precepts and Laws to overcome Chu Rulai’s defenses and leave ice over his body 480.

Formless Sect Arts and Concealment

  • Chooses the Heaven-Pacifying Saber Saint Inheritance to amplify her fighting strength rather than duplicate the Great Bright King Wheel’s offensive role 461.
  • Studies Heaven-Measuring methods to understand the rules she intends to disrupt 561 569.
  • Masters a high-grade Concentrating Spirit Art that conceals hostility and killing intent, sharply limiting Chu Xisheng’s Divine-Intent Saber Heart in single combat 454.
  • Uses Heaven-Disturbing, Earth-Disrupting, amplified by her hammer, to momentarily disorder Huang Tianyan’s Cultivation Body 561.

Perception, Comprehension, and Arrays

Her observational skill extends from recognizing an impostor’s incorrect handedness to sensing a concealed observer’s killing intent 37 69.

  • Detects Chu Xisheng through a courtyard wall and notices when his apparently normal behavior conceals constant vigilance 158 351.
  • Her Spirit-Eye Divine Ability retains clear sight within fifty zhang under battlefield concealment 469.
  • Reconstructs and links the damaged defensive arrays of eight peaks, demonstrating rune-array attainments comparable to renowned spell grandmasters 501.
  • Builds the Mediation of Creation Array and creates a primordial world embryo, although the latter exhausts her True Essence 680 685.

Divine Delusion

At Transcendent Rank, Lu Luanli develops Divine Delusion through the Formless Art and Divine Delusion Sword 732.

  • Manifests Three Heads and Six Arms, wielding a different Divine Weapon in each hand 732.
  • Combines Heaven-Bewildering, Heaven-Rending, Heaven-Dreaming, Heaven-Illusion, Heaven-Executing, and Divine Delusion 732.
  • Bewilders herself and enters a frenzied dreamlike state; greater wild presumption produces greater power 732.
  • Follows a branch of the Faith Method encompassing disorder, lawlessness, falsehood, unreality, and overstepping bounds 732.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Wild Goose Feather Saber — Custom-made Upper Fifth Rank weapon gifted by Chu Xisheng. Its temporal, wind, thunder, and illusion powers give it strength comparable to a Fourth Grade divine weapon; its dimensions and hilt are tailored to her physique and dual cultivation 328.
  • Peacock-Feather Saber — The saber she carries when challenging Chu Xisheng after cultivating the Concentrating Spirit Art 454.
  • Wind-Cutting Saber — First-Rank saber given to her by Divine Ao Rogue Person and used against Chu Rulai 480.
  • Heaven-Rending Purple-Gold Hammer — Divine treasure that amplifies her power to disorder and disintegrate targets; kept concealed in her sleeve as a reserve weapon 561 569 574.
  • Cloudsea Sword Puppets — Initially receives three from Cloudsea Immortal Palace. Later fields twenty-four, having borrowed sixteen rather than the four Chu Xisheng suggested 455 567.

  • Lu Chen — Adoptive father and protector. Supports her cultivation and resists attempts to turn her biological ancestry into a political banner 268 599.
  • Crown Prince Li — Biological father, who died before her birth. His surviving reputation makes her attractive to factions seeking to rally Great Ning loyalists 599.
  • Xu Ridong / Uncle Dong — Trusted elder who has cared for her since childhood, supplies advancement medicines, and warns her about dangerous techniques. His teasing about Chu Xisheng frequently embarrasses her 143 170 455.
  • Chu Yunyun / Qin Muge — Friend, cultivation rival, and fellow consort. Lu Luanli first admires Qin Muge without knowing that the younger-looking Chu Yunyun is the same person 198 399 455 604.
  • Divine Ao Rogue Person — Master and source of her Cloudsea inheritance, advanced spell methods, and powerful equipment 396 455 480.
  • Ji Qianqian — Uneasy comrade. Although their relationship is poor, repeated battles together leave Lu Luanli genuinely concerned for her safety 475.
  • Liu Ruoxi — Fellow saber cultivator whom she helps train through sparring. Ruoxi recognizes her resilience after her defeat by Chu Xisheng 351 455.
  • Wen Suyi / Wen Zhuyi — Romantic rival whose strength motivates her to cultivate harder. Eventually accepts borrowed resources despite her former refusal to use anything belonging to Wen Suyi 567 652.
  • Azure Dragon Star Lord — Later ally who accompanies her and helps her counter the hurricanes over the Endless Ocean 648 718.
