Chapters 1–25 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1Awakening

Chu Xisheng sought admission to Zhengyang Martial Academy without taking the examination, and Ye Zhiqiu secured the Academy Master’s approval for him. His system suddenly activated after he was publicly praised as a lower ninth-rank talent, but Shao Lingshan arrived and challenged his exemption.

  • Chu Xisheng returned to Xiushui City with his escort convoy and hurried to Zhengyang Martial Academy for the inner disciple examination.
  • Ye Zhiqiu accepted Chu Xisheng’s money and agreed to recommend him for admission without examination, covering the remaining cost herself.
  • Ye Zhiqiu praised Chu Xisheng’s saber talent to Academy Master Lei Yuan, who approved the exemption and warned her not to disappoint him.
  • Chu Xisheng’s system changed his reputation to “Lower ninth rank (false),” awarded him five martial arts points, and unlocked the Martial Dao Treasury.
  • Shao Lingshan arrived with another youth, accused Ye Zhiqiu of abusing her recommendation quota, and called Chu Xisheng unfit for exemption.

Ch. 2Unsheathed

Chu Xisheng accepted Long Sheng’s challenge to protect his chance at an inner disciple place, then used the Martial Dao Treasury to acquire a talent that doubled his hand speed. He defeated Long Sheng with one lightning-fast saber strike, and his status changed to confirmed ninth-rank lower as his Martial Dao Points increased.

  • Shao Lingshan challenged Ye Zhiqiu’s candidate Chu Xisheng to face Long Sheng, offering an Essence-Gathering Formation if Chu Xisheng lasted three exchanges.
  • Chu Xisheng accepted the challenge and redeemed the Wind-Chasing, Lightning-Pursuing Hands talent from the Martial Dao Treasury.
  • Ye Zhiqiu warned Chu Xisheng to concede if he was in danger, but he stepped onto the platform to face Long Sheng.
  • When the referee’s coin hit the ground, Chu Xisheng drew his saber faster than the crowd could see and cut Long Sheng’s wrist, disarming him.
  • Academy Master Lei Yuan stopped Shao Lingshan from blaming Chu Xisheng, while spectators praised Chu Xisheng’s speed.
  • Chu Xisheng saw his status change to ninth-rank lower (substantiated) and his Martial Dao Points rise from one to seven.

Ch. 3Chu Yunyun

Chu Xisheng impressed Academy Master Lei Yuan with his swift blade, earning rewards and a private place to live at the academy. He returned to his rented loft to prepare for Chu Yunyun’s arrival, and she appeared at the door as he cooked.

  • Chu Xisheng apologized for injuring Long Sheng, but Lei Yuan praised his blade talent and compared him favorably to Li Fenglai.
  • Lei Yuan awarded Chu Xisheng five Origin-Nourishing Pills, a Hundred-Forged Light Steel Saber, extra food funds, and an Essence-Gathering Formation for the East Court.
  • Ye Zhiqiu concluded that Chu Xisheng had awakened a bloodline talent and gave him a key to two empty rooms in the Storage Yard.
  • Chu Xisheng bought Yanghe Powder and a perch, then returned to the rented loft to cook while expecting Chu Yunyun.
  • Chu Yunyun arrived at the loft door as Chu Xisheng prepared the meal.

Ch. 4The Yazi Diagram

After Chu Xisheng earned a place in Zhengyang Martial Academy’s inner sect, Chu Yunyun examined his newly awakened talent and instructed him to memorize a mysterious Yazi Diagram during his first visit to the Sutra Repository. They planned to move into the academy’s East Court, where Chu Yunyun could continue teaching him.

  • Chu Xisheng showed Chu Yunyun his inner sect token, which bore a silver leaf, and told her how he had earned it.
  • After hearing that Chu Xisheng’s bloodline talent had awakened in battle, Chu Yunyun tested his saber speed and recognized the Wind-Chasing, Lightning-Pursuing Hands.
  • Chu Yunyun told Chu Xisheng to memorize the Origin-Nourishing Art’s visualization diagram and secret medicines, then the Yazi Diagram on the Sutra Repository’s sixth floor.
  • Chu Yunyun broke a bowl while clearing the dishes, and Chu Xisheng stopped her from attempting to wash clothes.
  • Chu Xisheng told Chu Yunyun they would move to the East Court Storage Yard, where she could help correct his saber-drawing posture.

Ch. 5Eagle Eye

After moving into the martial academy, Chu Xisheng tested his Eagle Eye system ability and studied how its reputation-based rewards worked. Meanwhile, Chu Yunyun discovered a gazette announcing Qin Muge’s death, then secretly visited two strange iron pillars before Academy Master Lei Yuan interrupted her.

  • Chu Xisheng and Chu Yunyun moved into the Storage Yard, and their landlord returned eight taels of their deposit.

Ch. 6Overlord Martial King

Chu Xisheng dreamed of being buried beside Qin Muge, then learned more about Chu Yunyun’s past as they began training at Zhengyang Martial Academy. After breakfast, he entered the Sutra Repository with the new disciples and discovered that the academy would charge them for food and water inside.

  • Chu Xisheng woke from a recurring nightmare in which he was sealed in a coffin beside Qin Muge while hostile mourners watched.
  • Chu Yunyun explained that she had once joined the Formless Divine Sect under an assumed name before entering the army, and Chu Xisheng understood why she had brought him to Xiushui Commandery.
  • Chu Xisheng endured painful Origin-Nourishing Art practice and then practiced the Wind-Chasing Blade with the other disciples.
  • Chu Yunyun took Chu Xisheng to the dining hall, where he paid one tael of demon silver for two days of food and water.
  • Ye Zhiqiu brought the newly admitted disciples to the Sutra Repository and explained its rules, including the academy’s steep prices for food and water inside.

Ch. 7Legend

Chu Yunyun headed to a secluded Daoist temple to condense her Spirit Seed, but recognized a disguised near-Fourth-Rank expert among the academy’s new disciples and identified him as the wanted bandit Li Daogui. At the Library Tower, Chu Xisheng memorized the Origin-Nourishing Art diagram while hostile youths shadowed him, and he decided to deal with them before seeking the Yazi Diagram.

  • Chu Yunyun traveled toward the Daoist temple to begin condensing her Spirit Seed after postponing the process to earn money for Chu Xisheng.
  • Chu Yunyun spotted a disguised young man with cultivation near the Fourth Rank among the Inner Sect disciples and recognized him as wanted bandit Li Daogui.
  • Ye Zhiqiu told the disciples that Qin Muge had once studied at Zhengyang Martial Academy and left annotations and True-Meaning Diagrams in the Library Tower.
  • Chu Xisheng entered the Library Tower, noticed hostile youths watching him, and memorized the Origin-Nourishing Art visualization diagram in a quarter of an hour.
  • Chu Xisheng learned the second-layer secret medicine formulas and realized the youths following him would obstruct his search for the Yazi Diagram, so he resolved to handle them first.

Ch. 8Taking the Blame

Chu Xisheng fled nine Sea Blue Gang youths who had come to attack him, only for a mysterious man to incapacitate them all. When martial instructors arrived, they found Chu Xisheng beside the unconscious youths and appeared to suspect him.

  • Chu Xisheng found the martial instructors unwilling to help, grabbed a heavy wooden rod, and ran upstairs to escape the nine attackers.
  • The Sea Blue Gang youths chased Chu Xisheng through the tower while other disciples identified them and warned that the academy would conceal violence against him.

  • The stubbled youth recognized the man as Bloodwind Sword Li Daogui before he and the remaining attackers were struck down.
  • Chu Xisheng emerged from hiding and found all nine youths unconscious with their arms and legs broken.
  • Several martial instructors arrived with a group and stared in shock at the injured youths and Chu Xisheng.

Ch. 9Drifting on a Sea of Blood

Chu Xisheng was wrongly suspected of injuring nine people in the Library Tower as it began to shake. On the twelfth floor, Li Daogui confronted the white-robed elder of Zhengyang Martial Academy, demanding Qin Muge’s God-Defying Banner and attacking when he realized the elder was stalling.

  • Chu Xisheng saw his Martial Dao Points rise from 5 to 11 while the crowd blamed him for the injured people.
  • Chu Xisheng denied hurting anyone and urged the instructors to summon the tower master or head instructors.
  • The Library Tower shook violently, sending people, dust, and fragments of stone crashing down.
  • Li Daogui reached the twelfth floor, where his Sword Qi clashed with the white-robed elder’s astral essence and destroyed the bookshelves.
  • Li Daogui demanded the God-Defying Banner Qin Muge had supposedly left in the tower and explained the prophecy that had led him there.
  • Li Daogui attacked the elder, who countered with the Yang-Extreme Reverse-Yin Palm, but Li Daogui broke free of the ice.

Ch. 10Bloodwind Bandits

Ye Zhiqiu and the academy leaders confronted Bloodwind Bandits who had seized the Library Tower and rigged it with Explosive Flame Talismans. With the instructors inside likely dead and the tower too valuable to storm, Cao Xuan considered using Chu Xisheng to kill the bandits’ spellcaster.

  • Ye Zhiqiu reached the Library Tower and found a blood-clothed youth threatening to destroy its collection and everyone inside with thousands of Explosive Flame Talismans.
  • Lei Yuan and Cao Xuan identified the attackers as Li Daogui’s Bloodwind Bandits, who had come searching for clues to Qin Muge’s God-Defying Banner.
  • Four Embroidery Guards tried to enter through the seventh-floor windows, but Locust Crossbows killed them, and the bandits burned four valuable True-Meaning Diagrams.
  • Cao Xuan proposed finding someone inside to kill the bandits’ spellcaster, while Lei Yuan worried that no suitable instructors or disciples remained in the tower.
  • Shao Lingshan suggested Chu Xisheng because he had defeated Long Sheng with a swift saber strike, but Ye Zhiqiu protested that Chu Xisheng was too weak and would be risking his life.
  • Cao Xuan considered whether Chu Xisheng’s blade speed could make him useful against the spellcaster.

Ch. 11Junior Sister

Chu Xisheng hid in the Library Tower while the Bloodwind Bandit Group searched for Qin Muge’s notes and the rumored God-Defying Banner. After an Embroidery Guard officer urged him to help defeat the bandits, Lu seized his hand and began replying to the message talisman on his behalf.

  • Chu Xisheng escaped the attackers by hiding on a roof beam, where he met a mysterious girl who called herself Lu and erased his footprints with spell arts.
  • The Bloodwind Bandit Group forced the academy disciples to search books for Qin Muge’s annotations, threatening to kill anyone who found nothing.
  • Lu told Chu Xisheng that the bandits were searching for the supposedly nonexistent God-Defying Banner, which she had not found during her own search of the tower.
  • A message talisman from Embroidered Uniform Thousand-Household Officer Cao Xuan asked Chu Xisheng to help kill the bandits’ spellcaster, while hinting that his and Chu Yunyun’s travel permits and household registration were at risk.
  • Lu warned Chu Xisheng that the apparent spellcaster was actually a seventh-rank martial cultivator and that the real spellcaster was hiding among the students, then took the talisman and began writing a reply using his blood.

Ch. 12Taking the Blame, Round Two

Chu Xisheng and the Lily Maiden carried out a plan to kill the hidden spellcaster in the Library Tower, while Lei Yuan and two Embroidery Guard experts stormed in as a diversion. Chu Xisheng survived a hail of crossbow bolts with Ye Zhiqiu’s help, and the Embroidery Guards entered the tower as a firework appeared before his eyes.

  • Cao Xuan accepted Chu Xisheng’s requests for a Black Cloud Flying Goose Saber, a Superior Blood-Melting Pill, and a coordinated attack on the tower.
  • Chu Xisheng swallowed the pill, while the Lily Maiden took the saber and used Lei Yuan’s assault as cover to kill the hidden spellcaster.
  • A one-eyed young man chased the Lily Maiden, and Chu Xisheng jumped from the window with the saber as two men accused him of killing the spellcaster.
  • The two men fired their Locust Crossbows at Chu Xisheng, who used his saber to deflect the bolts until Ye Zhiqiu swept them away with her greatsword.
  • Chu Xisheng landed safely as the Embroidery Guards rushed into the tower, and a huge firework appeared across his vision.

Ch. 13Struck it rich

  • Chu Xisheng noticed his reputation had risen to Ninth-Rank Lower (transcendent) and his Martial Dao Points had increased to 25, then told Qiu Feng that he and a female disciple surnamed Lu had killed the spellcaster together.
  • A figure fled the Library Tower as Academy Master Lei Yuan and others pursued him, while a Bloodwind Bandit threatened Chu Xisheng for killing his brother; Chu Xisheng's Martial Dao Points rose to 27.
  • Chu Yunyun appeared on a camphor tree, confirmed Chu Xisheng was unharmed, and disappeared into the shadows.
  • The Bloodwind Bandits fled through Xiushui Commandery City, setting fires and attacking people; seven escaped, and the Embroidery Guard later searched the Library Tower for Qin Muge's notes and annotations.
  • Cao Xuan gave Chu Xisheng a bottle of Origin-Nourishing Pills and fifty taels of demon silver, while Ye Zhiqiu scolded him for risking his life.

Ch. 14Fortune

Li Daogui learned that Cao Xuan had outmaneuvered the Bloodwind Bandits and ordered a bounty on Chu Xisheng, though the bandits lacked the money to post it. Unaware of the danger, Chu Xisheng returned to the Storage Yard and found Cao Xuan waiting to speak with him.

  • Li Daogui learned that only six Bloodwind Bandits had escaped and heard that a young woman, not Chu Xisheng, had killed the Spellcaster.
  • Li Daogui ordered an investigation into the woman and told Bloodclothes to post a bounty on Chu Xisheng, but postponed it when he learned they were nearly out of money.
  • Chu Xisheng noticed that his Martial Dao Points had fallen from 27 to 26 and decided to wait for the Martial Dao Treasury's next refresh rather than spend points on his Origin-Nourishing Art.
  • Chu Xisheng found Cao Xuan alone in the Storage Yard, and Cao Xuan asked to come inside for a private conversation.

Ch. 15Cao Xuan

Cao Xuan offered Chu Xisheng active Embroidery Guard appointments and rewards in exchange for investigating Qin Muge and the God-Defying Banner at Zhengyang Martial Academy. Chu Xisheng asked for time to consider, and Cao Xuan gave him five days to respond.

  • Cao Xuan thanked Chu Xisheng for helping stop the Bloodwind Bandits and presented him with pills, silver, Gold-Silk Inner Armor, and Bannerman tokens for himself and Chu Yunyun.
  • Chu Xisheng noticed the tokens granted active Embroidery Guard appointments rather than the hereditary titles he had requested, and questioned Cao Xuan about the change.
  • Cao Xuan asked Chu Xisheng to search for clues about Qin Muge and the God-Defying Banner, promising a Spirit Pact and help making the siblings' identities secure.
  • Cao Xuan hinted that he knew the siblings' identities were questionable, while Chu Xisheng considered the risks and asked for time to decide.
  • Cao Xuan gave Chu Xisheng five days to respond and left the promised rewards on the table, telling him to buy three dried-tangerine-peel buns if he accepted.

Ch. 16A shortcut

Chu Xisheng spent a Martial Dao Point to enter Virtual Practice and repeatedly trained Empty Cave Brings Wind with a summoned Hundred-Forged Light Steel Saber. He woke in agony but discovered that the dream’s training had made his saber strike far faster, leaving him convinced he could advance through martial cultivation by practicing.

  • After Cao Xuan left, Chu Xisheng fetched water, cleaned the rooms, and exchanged one Martial Dao Point for Virtual Practice.
  • Chu Xisheng appeared in a vast marble plaza, found he could not leave the area around its central light, and summoned a Hundred-Forged Light Steel Saber from the weapon racks.
  • Chu Xisheng practiced Empty Cave Brings Wind repeatedly, continuing as his muscles grew tired and his stamina stopped declining near eighty percent.
  • At dawn, Chu Xisheng woke with intense pain and soreness that he suspected came from the system transferring his dream training into his body.
  • Chu Xisheng performed Empty Cave Brings Wind in the courtyard and split three falling leaves, realizing his saber had become faster and more practiced.

Ch. 17Lu Luanli

Chu Xisheng discovered that Lu Luanli had killed the Spellcaster, and she pressured him to keep her identity secret while she searched the academy for Qin Muge’s treasure. The Library Tower remained closed after the attack, but Ye Zhiqiu revealed that she temporarily controlled it, leaving Chu Xisheng with a possible way to pursue the Yazi Diagram.

  • Chu Xisheng found Lu Luanli waiting outside the Storage Yard, and she insisted that he take credit for killing the Spellcaster and keep her out of the incident.
  • Lu Luanli silenced Chu Xisheng with a spell when he tried to report her to Ye Zhiqiu, then agreed to pay him up to five hundred copper coins per day to keep her secret.
  • At morning practice, Lu Luanli revealed her name and explained that she was a Leafless Disciple who had joined the inner sect three months earlier.
  • Ye Zhiqiu told Chu Xisheng that the academy was handling the dead, damaged buildings, and lost books after the Library Tower attack, and she suspected Cao Xuan had deliberately let the Bloodwind Bandits attack.
  • Ye Zhiqing explained that the Library Tower would remain closed while the academy replaced the burned True Intention diagrams, but said she was temporarily in charge of it.

Ch. 18Yazi

Chu Xisheng studied the Yazi Diagram in the Library Tower and was drawn into a vision of a blue-robed swordsman defeating an army of giants. After two and a half days, he woke with a new Yazi Remnant Intent and an unexplained increase in lifespan, then hurried to find Chu Yunyun.

  • Chu Xisheng entered the Library Tower and began studying the Yazi Diagram while Ye Zhiqiu warned him to avoid the texts above the sixth floor.
  • Chu Xisheng was pulled into a vision of a blue-robed man whose saber beast defeated a giant and faced a vast army of giants.
  • Chu Xisheng woke after sitting before the diagram for two and a half days, and Ye Zhiqiu told him to leave before Shao Lingshan took charge of the tower.
  • Chu Xisheng saw that he had gained Yazi Remnant Intent and that his lifespan had risen from nineteen days to twenty-four.
  • Chu Xisheng regained feeling in his legs, hurried to the Storage Yard, and found Chu Yunyun back from the northern Daoist Temple.

Ch. 19Saber Intent

Chu Xisheng learned that the Yazi Diagram concealed saber intent and that mastering it could help him and Chu Yunyun escape the life debt and control tied to the Six Yin Soul-Returning Incantation. Chu Yunyun hinted that an opportunity at Zhengyang Martial Academy could help him advance, and Chu Xisheng placed two bronze waist tokens on the table.

  • Chu Xisheng found Chu Yunyun cooking in the courtyard, discovered she had ruined some of his clothes, and took over making dinner.
  • While they ate, Chu Xisheng asked about the Yazi Diagram, and Chu Yunyun explained that its hidden saber intent came from the Blood-Yazi Saber Lord and that eight diagrams recorded his life's work.
  • Chu Yunyun explained that their borrowed lives were sustained by the Six Yin Soul-Returning Incantation and that cultivating Yazi saber intent could help them resist whoever had cast it.
  • Chu Yunyun said that an upcoming opportunity at Zhengyang Martial Academy could help Chu Xisheng improve his talent and eventually master the Divine-Intent Death-Touching Saber.
  • Chu Xisheng stopped Chu Yunyun from clearing the dishes and placed two bronze waist tokens on the table, making her expression turn grave.

Ch. 20Traveling together

Chu Xisheng joined the Embroidery Guard through a coded bun-shop message and set out for Firebone Cavern to gather herbs for his next breakthrough. Lu Luanli discovered his destination and insisted on accompanying him as danger from the Bloodwind Bandits loomed.

  • Chu Xisheng practiced the Origin-Nourishing Art and decided that he and Chu Yunyun needed the Embroidery Guard's protection and pay.
  • Chu Xisheng bought three dried tangerine peel buns at a Full Fragrance shop and learned the buns' coded messages for contacting the Embroidery Guard.
  • Lu Luanli found Chu Xisheng, revealed that she knew he had sensed saber intent in the Yazi Diagram, and questioned whether he was leaving the city.
  • Chu Xisheng told Lu Luanli he was going to Firebone Cavern to find Yangyang Grass for the secret medicine needed for the second level of the Origin-Nourishing Art.
  • Lu Luanli bought meat buns and insisted on accompanying Chu Xisheng to practice her yang-fire spell and protect him from the Bloodwind Bandits.

Ch. 21Bloodline

Chu Yunyun learned that the Long Household had forced the Sitong Escort Agency to dismiss her and Chu Xisheng, and she rushed to warn him at Firebone Cavern. Chu Xisheng and Lu Luanli reached the town at Firebone Cavern, where they found dozens of corpses displayed on stakes.

  • Deputy Escort Chief Lin paid Chu Yunyun and Chu Xisheng their withheld wages, dismissed them under pressure from the Long Household, and warned that Long Heng had killed more than sixty people at Firebone Cavern.
  • Chu Yunyun realized Chu Xisheng was heading to Firebone Cavern and hurried east to find him.
  • Chu Xisheng defended Lu Luanli from the leering passengers in a carriage by cutting a man's pipe with his saber and warning the others to behave.
  • On the way to Firebone Cavern, Lu Luanli said she planned to practice the Fire-Spirit Shamanic God Incantation and explained the cavern's connection to a dead ancient giant god and Yangyang Grass.
  • Chu Xisheng and Lu Luanli reached the town and saw more than seventy corpses hanging from stakes along its entrance.

Ch. 22Impact

Chu Xisheng went to Li's Herbal Medicine Shop in Firebone Cavern to buy Yangyang Grass, but found the Long Household had monopolized it and was watching him. With Lu Luanli, he chose to enter the cavern rather than face the blocked exits, then fought through the Long Household's guards and escaped deeper inside.

  • Chu Xisheng learned that the Long Household had killed dozens of people to control Firebone Cavern's medicinal herbs and raised Yangyang Grass's price to 220 taels.
  • Chu Xisheng spotted a Long Household spy watching him, changed his appearance with Lu Luanli, and found both exits guarded by Long Household men.
  • As the pair were followed toward the cavern, Chu Xisheng discovered that his Yazi saber intent could inflict a mental impact intensified by his enemies' malice.
  • Chu Xisheng decided to enter Firebone Cavern, where its multiple entrances and darkness could help them evade pursuit.
  • When five Long Household soldiers ordered Chu Xisheng to stop, he killed four of them with swift saber strikes and fled into the cavern with Lu Luanli.

Ch. 23Taking the Blame

Chu Xisheng and Lu Luanli fled through Firebone Cavern after killing Long Household men, while Lu Luanli used his saber and Wind-Chasing Blade to make the killings appear to be his work. Long Heng learned that Chu Xisheng had slain thirteen of his men and sent Senior Brother Du with three of the Hengmen Eighteen Riders to pursue him.

  • Chu Xisheng noticed his Martial Dao Points had increased after killing three men and felt the mental exhaustion caused by using Yazi saber intent.
  • Lu Luanli praised Chu Xisheng, took his saber, and killed five Long Household guards at a cavern bend with the Wind-Chasing Blade.
  • Long Heng inspected the three dead men and learned from Long Sheng that Chu Xisheng had also killed the Bloodwind Bandits' spellcaster.
  • Long Heng slapped Long Sheng for diverting men from the effort to eliminate Tie Xiaosheng, while Senior Brother Du explained the danger of letting Tie Xiaosheng recover.
  • Two messengers reported that Chu Xisheng had killed Long Zheng's squad and Long Five's squad, bringing his total to thirteen Long Household men.
  • Long Heng asked Senior Brother Du to pursue Chu Xisheng with three of the Hengmen Eighteen Riders, and Du entered the cavern.

Ch. 24Deeper in

Chu Yunyun entered Firebone Cavern to find Chu Xisheng and learned that Eagle Sword Du Hong was pursuing him. Deeper inside, Chu Xisheng and Lu Luanli chose to hide from the Long Household’s forces, while Lu Luanli’s paper-crane talisman flew away.

  • Chu Yunyun captured and interrogated a Long Household soldier, learning that Chu Xisheng had entered Firebone Cavern with a woman and that Du Hong was hunting him.
  • Chu Yunyun killed the soldier, broke through five guards at the cavern entrance, and continued into Firebone Cavern.
  • Chu Xisheng followed Lu Luanli past guarded intersections as she killed five Long Clan leaders and earned him Martial Dao Points.
  • After Lu Luanli’s saber became damaged, Chu Xisheng collected food and water from fallen soldiers and led her down a dark passage to hide.
  • Lu Luanli reluctantly followed Chu Xisheng deeper into the cavern, and a talisman from her sleeve folded into a paper crane and flew away.

Ch. 25Tie Xiaosheng

Chu Xisheng and Lu Luanli searched Firebone Cavern for ingredients for the Origin-Nourishing Art, with Chu gaining insight into how belief might fuel his Martial Dao Points. Their search led them to an unconscious Tie Xiaosheng, whose bag contained two stalks of Yangyang Grass.

  • Chu Xisheng reasoned that public belief in his martial prowess might earn him Martial Dao Points, then found Heartbreak Grass and asked Lu Luanli to help search for the Origin-Nourishing Art ingredients.
  • Lu Luanli summoned a spirit sable that located medicinal herbs, and Chu Xisheng gathered the formula's supplementary ingredients while they searched Firebone Cavern for Yangyang Grass.
  • The spirit sable led them deeper into the cavern, where Chu Xisheng killed a Golden-Ring Black Snake with a precise saber strike and collected its carcass.
  • The spirit sable stopped beside an unconscious, bloodied man in a stone forest, and Lu Luanli found medicine in his travel bag, including two stalks of Yangyang Grass.
  • Lu Luanli recognized the unconscious man as Tie Xiaosheng, the Iron Banner Gang's deputy banner chief.
