Background / History
The original Qin Lian
The original Qin Lian was a martial prodigy who entered the Pure Yang Sword Sect after reaching the True Qi realm at eighteen. He became Yuan Tianhe’s personal disciple and Cloudmist Peak’s legacy disciple. At thirty-three, he refined qi into astral force and raised the Qin Family from a county-level household into Taibai’s foremost martial lineage 1 5 15.
He and Jiang Xin were remembered as Cloudmist’s “twin jewels.” After Jiang Xin died in an encounter with a demonic beast, he became despondent, left Pure Yang, and settled in Taibai. By the opening of the story, he had lived on Dragon Abyss Mountain for four years 7 11 12.
While returning to his ancestral home with relatives, he encountered Blood Demon Zuo Qiudao slaughtering villagers to feed a demonic weapon. Unable to abandon his family when Zuo Qiudao attacked, he unleashed thirty-three consecutive strikes with the Blood-Burning Sword Art and killed him. The technique exhausted his vitality and damaged his foundations; he died after struggling with the injuries for a month 1.
Transmigration
The current Qin Lian was a twenty-five-year-old Blue Star worker who collapsed after spending three days and nights rushing a proposal. He awoke in the dying patriarch’s body, receiving the predecessor’s memories. He also retained a cluster of golden light seized while passing through a mysterious golden river 1 3.
Although initially unsettled by the loss of his former life, he became fascinated by genuine cultivation. He accepted responsibility for protecting the family whose identity and strength he had inherited, intending eventually to leave it with another Fourth Rank expert rather than remain its sole support 1 5 11.
Appearance
- Build: Weighs over seventy kilograms when he first tests his inherited strength 1.
- Initial condition: The original body is gaunt and haggard from severe vital-blood loss, despite sumptuous clothing. After awakening, he soon appears healthy enough to alarm the factions investigating his injuries 1 2.
- Physical improvement: Increased Root Bone makes him slightly taller and straighter, with a bearing closer to his twenty-five-year-old former self 4.
- Dress: Wears finely tailored brocade robes at Dragon Abyss Mountain; returns to Cloudmist Peak in imposing robes with his hair arranged in an elder’s style 4 16.
Personality
Qin Lian prizes uninterrupted cultivation over administration, ceremony, reputation, and romance. He delegates the Qin Family’s management to Qin An, declines Cloudmist Peak’s leadership and taking disciples, and welcomes the Library Pavilion appointment because its routine business is handled by others 5 11 16 17.
His caution is practical rather than absolute. He refuses Gao Qianchi’s challenges while insufficiently prepared and considers surrendering a valuable mine rather than risking his life for revenue. Public criticism does not persuade him to accept fights that would consume his training time 26 29.
He is nevertheless decisive when the Qin Family’s safety is threatened. He rejects fleeing to Pure Yang and attacks the forces preparing to move against the family. His stated aim is deterrence, not indiscriminate extermination: he cannot bring himself to slaughter thousands of people simply to remove every possible future enemy 5 6 10.
He also distinguishes his own identity from his predecessor’s. His rejection of Jiang Yi is partly rooted in his belief that she loves the original Qin Lian, not the person now occupying his body. Despite his enthusiasm for training, his previous sudden death makes him retain six hours of sleep rather than cultivate without rest 18 46.
Abilities & Skills
Golden Light — Heaven Rewards Diligence
The golden light tracks cultivation and rewards the perfection of methods possessing an extraordinary underlying concept 1 3.
- Displays each compatible method’s progress and prevents that progress from regressing 3.
- Can improve innate aptitude, awaken traits, and provide inspiration or enlightenment 1 3 4.
- Gives richer rewards for deeper, more profound methods 1.
- Does not recognize every technique: only eleven of the original body’s more than thirty assorted arts initially form stars within it 4.
- Absorbs the underlying intent of cultivation methods; instruction from practitioners with different understandings can accelerate his progress 23 28.
- Can gradually produce Dao-body traits through mastery of related methods 18.
Swiftness
A completed trait derived from three complementary sword arts 4.
- Doubles sword speed and accelerates dodging, turning, leaping, and other movement 4.
- Combines with Blood Burning to sustain overwhelming close-range attacks 20 37.
- Can be activated through Dharma Power; Qin Lian concludes it is an innate spell rather than merely a physical technique 31.
Blood Burning and the Blood-Burning Curse
The perfected Blood-Burning Sword Art lets Qin Lian control its activation at will. Its Spirit Refining application also allows him to interfere with another person’s blood 17 37.
- Burns vital blood to generate explosive combat power 17 37.
- Can disrupt an opponent’s blood and qi, delaying true qi circulation 37 38.
- Remains dangerous under sustained use: thirty-three all-out strikes nearly exhaust him even after reaching Third Rank 37.
- Can be countered by sufficiently powerful Divine Intent; Ye Yingxiong severs the curse with Sword Intent 38.
Swordsmanship and Sword Control
Completed through the Nine Heavens Sword Forms and Liuhe Duzun Sword Art, this trait improves both sword handling and aptitude 18 44.
- Makes the sword respond like an extension of his arm and helps detect and correct flaws in sword techniques 44.
- Enables the Hundred-Step Flying Sword: he sends a sword dozens of meters away and recalls it using true qi and Divine Intent 44.
- Allows him to redirect a broken wooden blade during his spar with Li Wangxu 47.
- Greatly improves compatibility with the Chi Xiao Flying Sword when combined with Dharma Power 50.
- Does not establish remote killing across hundreds or thousands of li; Qin Lian recognizes that such travel would require his spirit-soul to carry the sword 44 50.
Great Void Divine Intent and Sword Qi
His Great Void understanding emphasizes boundlessness, inclusion, and transcendence of individual phenomena 40.
- Frees him from the Heavenly Extreme Sword’s illusion of slaughter and destruction 39 40.
- Dispels Song Huangting’s illusory rising sun 43.
- Supports external Sword Qi capable of cutting targets around three zhang away at minor attainment 44 45.
Astral Qi Defense
At Third Rank, Qin Lian forms armor from True Astral Qi 18.
- Its protection is comparable to refined iron or mystic steel; ordinary blades may shatter against it 18.
- Stops Li Wangxu’s wooden sword at his throat during their spar 47.
Fire Spirit Dao Body and Spirit Refining
His fire spirit Dao Body opens a path beyond martial grandmaster cultivation 49.
- Awakens through practice with the Rising Sun One-Qi Formula and Blazing Sun Treasure Jade 49.
- Qualifies him to receive Chi Xiao True Person’s inheritance 49.
- Is kept secret alongside his Spirit Refining cultivation because Shan Hui warns that other fire spirit Dao Bodies have died mysteriously 49.
- By Chapter 50, he favors developing Spirit Refining over the uncertain process of attaining First Grade martial cultivation 50.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Azure Firmament / Azure Sky Treasure Sword — His principal early sword, rendered under both names in the supplied passages. It is chipped and cracked after striking the starlight-patterned Heavenly Extreme Sword 7 37 38 39.

- Yanlan — Guardian of Chi Xiao True Person’s legacy, who welcomes Qin Lian into the cave abode and hands over its keys 49.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Securing the Qin Family
Qin Lian’s first public appearance after transmigration drives away representatives of the Canglang Sword Sect, Taibai Xie Family, and Dragon River Gang. He explains his recovery by claiming to have exaggerated his injuries to expose enemies. Their interpretation is the opposite: because he lets them leave unharmed, they conclude he is too weak to fight 2 3 5.
When the Canglang Sword Sect and Dragon River Gang assemble their forces, he attacks first. He kills Canglang’s leaders and numerous experts, while the Dragon River Gang’s leadership flees before his arrival. The victories provide supplies, restore deterrence, and allow him to hand the patriarch’s position to Qin An 7 8 9 11.
Returning to Pure Yang
An invitation to Cloudmist Peak’s succession ceremony draws Qin Lian back to Pure Yang after four years away. His Heaven Ranking status earns formal recognition from the sect’s leadership. Rather than take over Cloudmist Peak, he joins the council of elders and becomes Library Pavilion master, gaining access to cultivation manuals without taking on routine administration 12 14 15 16 17.
Heavenly Splendor Mountain
During Pure Yang’s intervention against Ye Yingxiong’s faction, Qin Lian defeats Li Xiu and secures the Heavenly Splendor Treasure Tree for Cloudmist Peak. Ye Yingxiong subsequently attacks him in disguise, forcing him to combine his martial traits with the Blood-Burning Curse to survive the encounter 34 35 37 38 42.
The Heavenly Extreme Sword left at the scene traps him in an illusion, from which he emerges with Great Void Divine Intent. Pure Yang’s senior leaders agree to conceal his Second Grade breakthrough and cultivate him as a hidden trump card against the Heavenly Martial Bureau 39 40 43.
Taibai and the Chi Xiao Inheritance
After further training at Heavenly Splendor Mountain, Qin Lian kills Gao Qianchi and restores Taibai Mine Mountain to the Taibai Sword Sect. Back at Pure Yang, he draws with Li Wangxu in a wooden-sword spar without using Blood Burning 44 45 46 47.
Shan Hui then discovers his fire spirit Dao Body and gives him access to Chi Xiao True Person’s secluded inheritance. Qin Lian begins studying the Spirit Refining path and successfully controls the Chi Xiao Flying Sword, setting his next goal on accumulating sufficient Dharma Power for Spirit-Soul Out-of-Body cultivation 49 50.
