Speaking of water, he really didn't seem to have any.
The only food Lin Feng had now was this pack of filled chocolates. It could still tide him over when it mattered.
Hopefully, the next floor would give him some water.
Then Lin Feng checked the trading system again. People were already trying to sell items, all bartering for things they needed.
Most of the items being traded at the moment were food and water.
The wood Lin Feng had was also in high demand. After all, it was a material needed to upgrade the elevator.
But Lin Feng didn't sell any. He still didn't have enough to upgrade his elevator, and who knew when he would next enter somewhere with plenty of wood.
"Good thing I ate a lot this morning."
Lin Feng rubbed his stomach, feeling rather fortunate. He had polished off three baskets of soup dumplings and a bowl of tofu pudding that morning. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been late for his eight o'clock class.
It seemed choosing to chow down back then hadn't been a mistake.
The food in his stomach could keep him going for a day without any trouble.
The time displayed on the screen was now two in the afternoon.
To conserve his energy, Lin Feng lay down on the bed made of chairs.
"It's so stuffy."
Lin Feng took off his jacket, spread it beneath him, and lay down for a while. These clothes were the only things that had entered this world with him. The phone, keys, and other things in his pockets hadn't come along. Was it the same for everyone else?
Once his strength had recovered, Lin Feng continued organizing the wood. There wasn't much room in the elevator, so every bit of space he could save counted. After he neatly stacked all the wood, there was a little more room.
"System?"
"Beep. Please speak, host."
"Is your function to predict information about each floor?"
"Beep. This system also offers mission rewards. Your current first mission is to upgrade the elevator to level 2. The reward is one Fine Steel Crossbow, plus twenty crossbow bolts."
Lin Feng nodded after hearing that. The system really did come through.
"Let's see what everyone else is doing."
Lin Feng pulled a chair over to the screen and opened the chat room.
He was met with a shock right off the bat.
[Hey, uncles, I didn't eat anything last night, and I'm so hungry now. Would anyone trade me some food? Anything is fine. I'll trade my panties.]
[Me! Nobody fight me for them! I want to brew tea with them!]
[??? Dude, you're into some hardcore stuff!]
[Everyone knows how important food is now. Surely nobody would actually be stupid enough to trade for that.]
Lin Feng was also curious enough to click on the young woman's avatar. Sure enough, she had listed a trade, offering her panties for any food.
Just as Lin Feng thought nobody would trade for that, the listing vanished.
Lin Feng froze on the spot.
"Impressive."
In the chat room.
[Guys, who has water? I'll trade food for it! I have extra food here, but no water.]
[I'll trade. Put up a listing.]
[Holy shit, I got a fire going!!]
[????]
[???]
[?????]
Lin Feng was baffled too. Never mind how he had started a fire-what the hell was he starting one for?
It was so stuffy in this elevator already. Wouldn't lighting a fire choke him to death?
Sure enough, someone soon raised the question.
[Dude, this elevator barely has any ventilation, and you're lighting a fire? Are you that determined to die?]
[What else can I do? I picked up two turtles on the floor. I haven't eaten all day. I'm starving.]
[I want to know how you started the fire. Did you find a lighter?]
[No, I used a friction drill. I happened to find some wood and a small pack of paper. Gotta go, I'm choking here. I need to hurry up and roast these two turtles, then put out the fire!]
What a hardcore guy!
Hopefully, the guy would get to eat those two turtles.
"It's already seven. I'll get some sleep first. I still need to explore a floor at midnight."
With that, Lin Feng slept on the chairs for a while.
"Beep. The floor you are about to enter is the Forest Floor. There is a wooden treasure chest at the center of the floor. It will yield a bottle of clean drinking water, a one-liter metal can, and one gold coin. There are five hundred-year-old pine trees. If you have a chainsaw, you can try sawing them down. Be warned: there is a venomous snake in the chest. If bitten, you will not survive longer than three seconds. If you have a weapon, you can try killing it."
The system's voice woke Lin Feng right up.
The floors were starting to get harder this time, but it was only a venomous snake. Lin Feng might have been afraid if he had been unarmed.
And now that he knew where the snake was, Lin Feng had even less to fear.
[Ding-dong! Elevator descending. Please hold on securely.]
Another sensation of weightlessness came over him. This time, a full minute passed before the elevator slowly came to a stop.
Lin Feng decisively pressed the door-open button, then stepped inside with his blade in hand.
The only thing on this floor that threatened him was the venomous snake, so Lin Feng walked straight toward the wooden treasure chest at the center.
As he carefully opened the wooden chest, his right hand, gripping the machete, was poised to strike.
A flash of white swept past, and the venomous snake that had just leaped out to ambush Lin Feng was cut in two.
Although it had been cut in two, the snake wasn't dead yet. Both halves were still writhing desperately.
Only after Lin Feng split its head in half with a chop did the snake cease to be a threat altogether.
After taking the things out of the wooden chest, Lin Feng looked around.
He could forget about those five pine trees. With only the machete in his hand, he would probably have to chop for an entire day.
"Is that running water?"
After walking around a little, Lin Feng actually heard the sound of flowing water.
How did this floor manage that? Where did the water come from, and where would it flow to?
Sure enough, Lin Feng spotted the flowing water.
It was a small stream at the edge of this floor. Unfortunately, there were no fish to be seen in it.
Lin Feng took out the metal can and filled it with water, then returned to the treasure chest and carried the wooden box back to the elevator as well.
This chest was made of wood too, and it even had a little iron on it.
Bringing it back would give him just what he needed to upgrade the elevator.
After tossing everything back into the elevator, Lin Feng looked at the venomous snake he had chopped in two. He thought for a moment, then picked it up after all.
"Maybe someone will want it."
Lin Feng shrugged. Whatever, he would just list it on the trading market. Maybe that hardcore guy who had lit a fire in the elevator would buy it.
Lin Feng: [Does anyone need food? I just killed a snake. You'll have to clean it yourselves. I want iron. It's already listed.]
After some thought, Lin Feng set the price of the venomous snake at five kilograms of iron.
After all, the snake wasn't very big. If he priced it too high, nobody would be able to afford it right now.
[A snake? It's raw, right? I don't have a fire. I'm starving. Will I get poisoned if I eat it raw?!]
[To the person above, eating it raw won't poison you as long as you prepare it properly. You might get parasites, though.]
[Right, didn't some guy start a fire with a friction drill? I'm jealous. Could you trade me an ember? I'll light my fire on a floor so I won't choke.]
[That makes sense. Dude, are you selling embers?!]
[Don't even mention it. I ran into a zombie when I entered the floor just now. The damn thing scratched me. I'm having some trouble breathing now. I'm probably going to croak. I already put out the fire. No embers left.]
[Holy shit! You can run into zombies on these floors??]
[Dude, since you're about to croak anyway, sell all your stuff cheap. That'll count as doing a good deed and earning some merit.]
[Exactly. You won't be able to use it once you're dead anyway. We're all survivors helping each other out.]
Soon, everyone below was asking in unison for the guy to sell his belongings cheaply. Nobody cared at all whether he lived or died.
