  • Anyo concluded that the two remaining Jonin were together with ten other ninja and decided to separate them before attacking.

Ch. 15A complete wipeout

Anyo fought off Sunagakure’s remaining force, using a powerful darkness technique and a lightning-fast sword strike to kill the two jonin and complete the wipeout. After collapsing from the strain, he was found by White Fang, who carried him back toward Konoha.

Ch. 16Medical Ninjutsu

Anyo passed out after exhausting himself with his newly named Iaido strike, and White Fang rushed him to the hospital, where Tsunade treated his damaged chakra pathways. Ch. 17Spirit Transformation Technique

After Tsunade rebuffed Anyo’s confession and White Fang reported Anyo’s battlefield feat to the Third, Dan Katō treated Anyo and explained his unusual Spirit Transformation Technique. Anyo realized the soul-based technique might also be useful for killing, leaving him intrigued by Dan’s ability.

  • Tsunade ended Anyo’s treatment after he confessed his feelings, and White Fang reprimanded him for having ulterior motives.

  • Dan Katō treated Anyo’s injuries and restored his mental energy, then agreed to let Anyo buy him a meal in thanks.
  • At Ichiraku Ramen, Anyo asked Dan how his Medical Ninjutsu restored mental energy, and Dan explained that he could control his soul and had named the technique the Spirit Transformation Technique.
  • Anyo realized Dan’s soul-based technique could potentially be used for assassination.

Ch. 18Dark Soul

Anyo discovered that his soul could manifest after reliving the darkness he had experienced before returning to life. Dan Katō saw Anyo's soul and began teaching him the Spirit Transformation Technique, while White Fang watched their training from hiding.

  • Anyo tried to trigger soul perception by leaping from a cliff, but the fall stirred no strong emotions in him.
  • Anyo used the Bringer-of-Darkness Technique to recall his time in the void and manifested his powerful soul.
  • The Third Hokage sensed a dark force at the cliff, mistook Anyo's thread marks for evidence of a Sunagakure infiltrator, and ordered an investigation.
  • Anyo told Dan Katō that he had seen his soul, and Dan invited him to train at the training ground.
  • Dan Katō taught Anyo the Spirit Transformation Technique, and they practiced through the night as White Fang watched from the shadows.

Ch. 19White Fang's warning

After Dan Katō left, White Fang warned Anyō that the Spirit Transformation Technique left his body vulnerable and should not be used carelessly. Later, Anyō recognized a disguised infiltrator in Konoha and confronted him, leaving the man demanding to know how he had been exposed.

  • Dan Katō and Anyō agreed to meet regularly after practicing the Spirit Transformation Technique, which Anyō had nearly mastered.
  • White Fang warned Anyō not to use the technique on the battlefield because enemies could attack his unprotected body, then gave him his mission payment.
  • Anyō considered spending his earnings as the war spread and the village filled with wounded ninja.
  • Anyō suspected a bespectacled middle-aged man he passed on the street was a skilled thief and infiltrator.
  • Anyō shared breakfast with the man, then revealed that he knew the man had infiltrated Konoha and ordered him to put away his weapon.
  • The man dropped his harmless-worker act and asked Anyō how he had seen through his disguise.

Ch. 20Heading to the battlefield

Anyo persuaded Genno to help steal the Scroll of Seals when the Third Hokage left Konoha, then focused on refining his swordsmanship. He deployed with White Fang and nearly a thousand ninja to fight Amegakure, where the Third Hokage’s disciples would lead the campaign against Hanzo of the Salamander.

  • Anyo told Genno he wanted the Scroll of Seals and got him to agree to help steal it when the Third Hokage left the village.
  • Anyo returned to White Fang’s training grounds and practiced the iaido slash while Kakashi watched.
  • White Fang told Anyo they were heading to the battlefield and warned him he might not return; Kakashi asked to come along but was told to wait until he graduated from the Ninja Academy.
